Michael Douglas Battles Throat Cancer

Postby Ftloperry » Thu Sep 02, 2010 3:13 pm

Michael told David Letterman on Tuesdays show that he has already had one round of radiation and chemo. Sad news. I hope the treatments work.

Stage IV... most serious.

This sucks, this guy's always been one of my favorites.

He was epic in Falling Down, the seminal 90s yuppie I just can't take it any more type of flick.

My former boss had throat cancer and the radiation treatment (let a lone the chemo) is brutal. It made his throat so raw that it about dropped him to his knees just to take a sip of water.

The treatment also kills the salivatory glands so when done, it is very difficult to swallow food. My boss eventually lost his vocal chords and now speaks with a hand held voice box.

He was one tough SOB and rarely missed work, but it was devastating to watch him go through it. .

Cancer is awful. Period. I wish him the best.

yeah its sad but that's what happens when you smoke for 4 decades, hello!
I wouldn't wish illness on anyone, but the doctors on the Today show this morning said that when a smoker also drinks alcohol
it wears away the throat making one even more vulnerable to cancers.....

smoking kills period! :?

The game is a crazy movie. Michael Douglas is just a fantastic actor. Looking forward to seeing him reprise his role as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street 2 in a few weeks here.

Some of you pups never saw him in The Streets of San Francisco. He and Karl "potato nose" Maulden were great.

I've been a Michael Douglas fan since the early 70's. I hope he pulls through this.

If you guys can find it, also watch the movie called The Star Chamber.

That was one seriously cool movie, and very underappreciated. Just wish I could find a decent version on DVD. 4:3 Letterbox is NOT widescreen!

I wish I could see 'The Game' again for the first time, man that movie was twisted! I loved Michael in "Wonder Boys" as the goofy pot smoking professor.

The doctors told Michael that his throat cancer didn't come from smoking that it came from excessive drinking.

Fuck!
This sucks. One of my favorite movies was Romancing the Stone......
It really kicks me in the nuts when actors that portrayed (nearly) invincible characters fall ill.
