Aaron, who should just admit he hates AP wrote:My bet it is Arnel's choice, or lack of capability. I don't think anyone would question Perry being a half step for even a full step down. Let's face it, he's Steve Fucking Perry. However, a half step down for a replacement singer? Are you kidding me, really? There's a SHITLOAD of people that can sing those songs in the original key. I mean shit, let's get Scott Stapp to sing this crap. I think I understand quite well and Journey are plonkers detuning for a replacement. If you're impressed with a half step down replacement that's your prerogative. I'm just not impressed with something less than the original. And there are folks out there that can do it.
If we went your proposed route, then Journey would have a SHITLOAD OF SINGERS WHO WOULD BOW OUT YEAR-AFTER-YEAR. Recognize!
If Kevin Chalfant was chosen as the lead singer for Journey and told to sing half-a-step down would you complain? Maybe not. Tell us Aaron, if Arnel was like me, a Filipino-American, where the diction issues aren't an issue at all(although to the band's credit, they're working on that with Arnel), would it be okay for him to sing half-a-step down due to Journey orders, if that was the case?? It's not like he can't sing the original key. They do the OG stuff when it's needed most (Think really, really big show or on national TV). When your last concert with the new guy was an astounding success based on both attendance and sales, does that mean, because you think so, he's a failure? If you think so, well... Millions of people disagree with you.
If Journey would have done that for Augeri, then maybe he's still singing for them. But sadly, it took losing 2 Steves for them to realize just how challenging the vocals are for any real serious length-of-a-time.
