Sacha Baron Cohen to Play Freddie Mercury

Postby Jana » Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:43 pm

I like this. I think he will be great.

"Sacha Baron Cohen has snagged the role of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in an upcoming film to be produced in 2011!

The movie will center around the band's formative years all the way up to Queen's appearance at Live Aid in 1985."

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about that. This could go either way.
Not a bad choice at all, really, if the whole thing is done right.

I hate SBC's movies, but maybe with someone else writing & directing it could be good.

well the thing about SBC though, with all those characters of his, I think he has the versatility to be able to do it. Obviously it would not be one of those movies like his others ones since he's held to imitating an actual person and not doing some whacked out dopey character, so I think as long as they have a good script and good direction, it might work.

He definitely looks the part. I hope he doesn't turn Freddy into some kind of Bruno type character.

Well, of course they aren't going to let that happen. Obviously he's known as a comic actor because of Borat and Bruno, but those are his own characters... he's actually done many other things too.

His look is perfect and I believe he has the chops(acting), if only I could get that banana hammock out of my head...I wonder if Freddie owned one?! :?

I don't see the guy putting on his 'Ali G' persona for this casting call. Cohen went to Cambridge; he's well educated and knows if he hams this up, the press will crucify him and cast him off as a one trick pony who can't evolve beyond portraying unorthodox characters who rely on juvenile, stereotypical humor to push the story line.
