What would your suggestion(s) for the chorus be? Anything specific in mind?

The bridge is great...but the chorus is a little underwhelming. Bridge and chorus are a little similar in their pace and delivery, so to break the two apart and go the less predictable route, I would make "I'm Going Under" after "and I wonder" go 2 steps higher....really blow it apart with that guitar riff in behind it...
When it comes to recording the song proper, it might sound better with a "less is more:" kind of approach.

And I'dd add in a little piano in the intro also....start piano only...then the rest...draw out the track some more.

That's really picking it part - bottom line is that the track is a winner...with some tweaking it could be a classic.

I thought *exactly* the same things you wrote. Esp. the chorus could stand out more.

The chorus would also profit from having other voices (with slightly other phrasings) than only Jeremey. And I want to hear more of Eric's amazing keys in the verses/solo (towards the end all I hear is layers of guitars). I would do a short doubled solo part near the end of the solo where keys and guitar harmonize some quick riff(s). A little like Work of Art did on that one track, can't remember the name right now. Last suggestion: use a 'real' bassplayer, they tend to write more creative parts than guitarists playing bass (myself not being an exception ;-) )

I'm not a fan of playing 'ride' on open crashes, but that's a taste thing I guess.

But man, this sounds more like Journey than, uh, Journey. I haven't decided if I like that fact or not ;-)

Cool! The name works for me.
Man, peeps sure have opinions on stuff.

Sounds excellent to me. Great job.

Where was this recorded? Other than the Youtube-ishness, it sounds like a really great quality recording.

One thing Michael mentioned is the "sounding a lot like Journey thing, not sure if he likes that or not"- Just wondering- would that be seen as detrimental from a record company point of view or not? I remember when Badfinger was trying to get press and the press just kept saying "too much like the Beatles", etc. and I think that hurt them (?!?!?!).

Do you guys worry about that?

Both tracks you have posted are really great.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Hey guys,

First off thanks for all the continued positive feedback (i'm not referring to the name LOL) just to touch on the question about sounding like Journey, ultimately, no matter what we do unless we TRY to sound different - we are gonna sound like Journey to an extent.

I've been with Frontiers now over a year and I hear Jeremey sound like Jeremey, not Perry anymore. That being said, most people will hear a lot of Perry (obviously) in how J sings. Me personally, i'm a Neal Schon fan, I love his tone and learned a lot of the way I play from the man.

Its really not a purposeful effort to put out a Journey sounding record, its just what is happening. Journey does Journey better than anyone lol, we are just making music that we hope people will enjoy.

Don't wanna speak for J, but for myself, thats kinda how I am seeing it I guess. Back when i was doing Waking Jonah with pelata people thought it had a very Journey edge to it too, again I was just writing the music how I write.

Now, when it comes to the name - whatever happens to it, don't expect us to settle on a typical AOR band name, because, we wont :D hhehehe.

Love the song. Love, love the guitar. Great job. Love the melody. Great vocal delivery by Jeremey, but his vocals are a little deep in the mix in some places. The only complaint.

I love the name. I don't understand it, but it's cool.

Thanks Andrew! We'd love some more feedback as we continue to put this together. I can't see squandering so much opportunity when we are in front of so many people week after week. Many original acts would kill for the exposure that we get and not to have a product to move is just wrong. Thanks again, mate!

Thanks Bryan! We've all recorded our parts individually and Stephen is mixing the files in Logic 9. RE sounding like JRNY, I think in our case we are catering to a specific audience which is people that go to our shows...Being able to bring a product directly to our audience is a big benefit - at least domestically - when in this DIY Internet music world the biggest obstacle for most independent artists is physical distribution. I guesstimate we may have played in front of 50,000 people between May and August this year, and that's headlining. When we can offer up a record that sounds original on it's own merit yet allows people to carry that "Journey" experience home with them, I think that's a strong plus for us.

Now if we were a studio band struggling to break via traditional record company route, nobody is going to get excited about a band that sounds like Journey....

Thanks Jana! RE the mix, ultimately we want to give all of these tracks to someone who mixes records for a living but Stephen does cut a mean demo, LOL. In other news, saw TFF in Baltimore a few weeks back, amazing show, still trying to love "Happy Ending" tho.

I really do love the song and the name of the band. The sign of a really good song is if it grabs you right from the beginning, and this song had that.

Wasn't it an amazing show? The only heartbreak for me was they played ELAHE the song, which is just okay (my least fav off the album), and took off one of the best songs of that album Closest Thing to Heaven, which is one of my favorite songs of all time by them, and he took off the setlist Raoul & The Kings of Spain. Both of those songs were on the set list in their rehearsal concert at the Wiltern in Cali. I was so upset not to hear those two songs. I so wanted to hear Roland do Raul. The first time they've left that off and it has to be when they tour the east coast. It was nice to see Advice for the Young at Heart added. First time in 20 years they've done that and such a fav of mine. I love ELAHE album. I can't believe you and RedJoPa are just so-so on it.

How did you like Roland's Billy Jean rendition?

It was awesome, my first and only TFF show...I was disappointed that there was no Raoul, I had seen it in a couple set lists, but I knew it had been replaced by the Boston show. Wainwright was pretty awesome also. I need ELAHE to grow on me I guess, I think it's too Beatlesque if such a thing can be said. Songwise I think it may be a stronger effort than Seeds Of Love, but stylistically it isn't quite along the lines of TFF when I like them at their best (darker and more experimental).

To be honest I don't remember much about Billie Jean, I believe I had gone to the bar for another glass of wine...ugghhh.

No, ELAHE isn't their sound at all. It threw me at first, but I love it in the summer, such harmonies. I don't listen to it other than during spring and summer, but it stays in steady rotation during that period. I love their true TFF sound the best also, and, truthfully, I love Saturnine, Martial & Lunatic a lot because it has that unmistakable sound and I love the experimental nature of it and seeing how some of their songs began or B sides and the instrumentals. Only diehard fans love that collection.

I had come up with a fake band name called psychobabytripswitch, which is in part a funny (to me) idea I had when Quinn was a little baby because something could agitate him and turn him into a little psycho baby. So the idea that there was a little tripswitch to set him off was kind of funny, and I'm a big fan of the way words roll off a tongue, thus psychobabytripswitch. When Stephen and I referred to the songs we were writing, we shortened it up to Baby Tripswitch. The name stays! 8)
