As the World Turns

Postby hoagiepete » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:16 am

I'm opening myself up for some shit here, but did anyone else notice the end of the long running soap As The World Turns?

We DVR'ed the final episode. Hadn't seen it in years, but it kind of depressed me as it was one of the few ties that remained back to my childhood. I have fond memories of my grandmothers watching it every weekday from the 60s through their passing in the 80's. My wife and I even watched it during college.

It was good seeing Bob, Lisa, Susan and John Dixon one last time.

Kind of wierd that hit me that way since I haven't watched it in decades, but it did.

I guess all I have now is the MR.com soap opera that seems kind of boring these days.

I got hooked on it three or four years ago when I started working out of my home more. It took me a while to figure out all the characters, but I really liked it. I haven't watched it much this year, but when I heard it was ending I watched it the last two weeks. Great show. I can't believe they took it off.

I have watched on and off for about 30 years. My mom watched it...so I continued.

Sad...it really was the best of what is left for daytime soaps....I am not going to watch another talk show.

I watched it with my mom starting in middle school...and they cancelled Guiding Light too :x I was not a huge daily watcher anymore, but I always loved how if you missed it for weeks, you still knew what was going on  what ticks me off is I think reality tv is replacing what soaps used to give people... and I hate reality tv. I live reality, why do I want to watch it on tv? I think it's sad that long running shows, on since radio are ending and we are left with trash reality tv.

I did too! :D My mom was a stay at home mom until I was about 13, so all my summers and days off.. CBS soaps were on.

I got way away from it, but then about 8 years ago, I was home during the day at least 3 days a week, and I got sucked back in while channel surfing one day... the kid they had playing Holden's son, Aaron (after they grew him up) was just so damn cute! So I watched.

The one I watched most was Young & the Restless - I followed that one on and off from about age 7-8, but at this point I haven't even seen that one in a good 3 years or more (yet it seems that Nikki and Victor are STILL doing the get married/get divorced/get remarried/get divorced/get re-re-married dance... so REALLY nothing ever changes on these crazy shows!!)

back in the day it was GH and Young in the restless..... luke and laura... damn was Laura hot... and remember Meg Ryan came from as the world turns if I got that right... and wow... just really really good looking back then... my grandmma used to watch em every day.... when we would visit then in Ohio and at noon everything would stop... so she could watch... ;-)

and when I started working here in the mid 80s... the older ladies would have to have their lunched time to go home and watch the soaps... too funny... do the young people even watch the daytime soaps anymore... or is now all about the view, oporah and Rachel Rae????

Those were the days. The whole thing with Laura killing David and Leslie taking the wrap, then Laura being in a prostitute ring, getting married to Scotty and later being raped by Luke.

I'm starting to get the idea that more of the guys around here know about these shows than the women do.
And there's certainly nothing wrong with that!! However, big kudos to y'all for admitting it.

I didn't know the show ended. I remember watching it with my mom back in the 50's & 60's when I was growing up. That was always her show. Sometimes I'd also catch Guiding Light & Search For Tomorrow. Does anyone remember the original Divorce Court hosted by Jim McKay of Wide World of Sports Fame? We watched that a lot too.

I had no idea either, until I read this topic. Kind of makes me wish I'd seen the last one, just because. I grew up with those shows. But on the other hand, I haven't seen in over 3 years so... :?

p.s. Does anyone know if Jack and Carly ever got back together?

Which time??? Yes they re-married on the next to the last episode....and Carly found out she was pregnant with Jack's
baby.

I saw the last one.....shed a few tears, it seems that a lot of things from my youth are "going" away in one form or another. :(
