Have to say I agree completely with how Dan told that little girl to handle a situation like that. It's funny how people who aren't parents, or have never been in a parental role of any kind, seem to think they know the perfect way to handle anything regarding kids, when they really haven't a clue, lol.

My father told me the same thing, and in middle school, when a group of boys decided to walk around doing the same thing, grabbing girls chests and butts, I and other girls were sent to the office after pushing these boys away from us in the hallway after all being grabbed. The boys were too of course, and all our parents show up and talk to the principal and that whole nine yards. The principal obviously sided with the parents of us girls after hearing more than one not-so-happy-father (mine being one of them, lol) express their feelings over some shithead boys grabbing their daughters. We girls all got talked to also of course, but not like the boys did, lol. Not sure what the principal told those boys, but they stayed FAR away from us and didn't pull that crap again, lol. That was only the 2nd time I ever got sent to "the office", lol. The first time was in 4th grade, when a boy decided to pull hair on all the girls in class. When he pulled mine, I turned around and pushed him, he fell backwards and hit the back of his head on the edge of a desk on his way down, and cut open the back of his head... oops, lol. But again, both my parents and his were called in, my dad simply said "I taught her not to take anything like that from anyone", and the boy's dad said he would "have a talk" with him, and that was that

I really don't believe ALL bullies are the result of low self esteem or not being loved enough at home, etc., etc. There ARE some people in this world who are just mean themselves, no matter what.

Yeah and that's sad, and such crap. No one should have to take being hit, or take anything else they don't deserve.

What about the 'James Willie Jones' approach? Getting on the bus and threatening to kick the shit out of the bullies who were picking on his Short Bus child or threatening the Bus Driver for allowing it to happen it, could any of you see that being an acceptable action in handling the issue?

I don't think I would go that route, but I would NEVER judge a parent for losing it in a situation like that! It's his child and he was frustrated. I think we'd all do anything for the safety of our children. It's tough! My daughter is not bullied but girls have just said things that hurt her and I get this feeling I want to tell them off! But I know it's best for her to handle it. She needs to learn those skills. But a tortured or special needs child is a whole different thing!! I'd never judge! I don't think that a parent should lay a hand on someone elses child. That would never be ok with me.

Agreed, and his approach may not have been right, but I understand his frustration. I had heard on the news he stated he had tried more than once going about it the "right" way by contacting the school, etc., but got nowhere, and just got tired of it.

WTF? I have ovaries and I would have handled the situation exactly the same way you did! The kid had a warning-one warning is all he gets. If we'd stop being so damn worried about EVERYONE's "rights" we wouldn't have these problems. You touch a girl like that the only right you should have is the right to get the shit kicked out of you so you won't do it again.

Angel, Angel, Angel... Buying a set of pickled ovaries from the local oriental store doesn't count, She-Man. But stay positive; I'm sure someone is going to buy you, instead of the dozens of cute labradors and Parakeet in the store, one day. You just hang in there!

Onto the subject of touching. It was just a decade ago that I was 10, and I gotta tell you: we touched a lot (especially while playing a game called truth, dare or percent.) I think it's completely natural for both boys and girls to test boundaries and experiment with the other sex. Even more so today, as sexual inuendo and what was once considered graphic, is now a part of everyday life. To give out a moralistic piledriver to some kid who simply doesn't know any better really doesn't sound like the right way to go.

Seem to me the key distinction between truth or dare and some playground grabass is that the former is consensual, whereas the latter is an invasion of bodily integrity. The punch in the face is totally fine in that situation. No one deserves to have his or her bodily integrity violated.

It sure does. He was warned, the administration was notified and so were his parents. What's left ... a fucking Venn Diagram???

Sorry but you playing "show me your pee-pee and I'll show you mine" is not the same as someone groping them in a hallway or on a playground. Like I mentioned before, I find it interesting someone who is not a parent or has never had to be in a parental role should tell anyone else in that situation that it was handled wrong. I would think if you had a little girl that happened to, you'd think a little differently about it.
