What's your favourite part of a favourite song?

Postby SusieP » Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:11 am

We all have songs which we absolutely love and we've discussed them loads of times............

but is there any particular section of a song which makes you just want to close your eyes, drift away and just savour the brilliance of the musicians playing the song?

Jonathan Cain's piano part in Still She Cries has this effect on me.
I just close my eyes and think "Wow, this is is beautifully played."

I really must stop playing the song when I am driving.

The very beginning of Love's Theme (Barry White), when the orchestra starts firing up their strings.

More than a feeling when Brad sings I see My Marriane walking away and he just goes up through the notes. Still love it today.

Was checking out "Life's a Bitch" by Hardline recently...The outro of the last 1:26 seconds, is just fucking awesome. Something about the riff, the guitar solo going out, and the punches near the end. And the lyric's are perfect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJdTlTUtteI

from the 2:25 mark up through Kip's sceam at 3:10....WOW.

In fact, Pull is a monster of an album....and after Spell I'm Under - Down Incognito is a fuckin' gem.

The drums in Zep's Achillies Last Stand. Opening guitar sequence in Layla, the scream in We Won't Get Fooled Again...too many favorites to name them all.

WYLAW is nothing less than a beautiful sexual ballet right from the Graceful intro of Jon’s piano to the lustful lyrical elegance and passion of the voice that follows!! The heart beats/Smitty and the head soars/Schon as the strings reach the perfect crescendo…every note of this song is overflowing with artistic passion and is equally important …or you’re just going home alone …but my favorite part ...
It's enough to make you cry <<< these few little words right here could be sung by any human on this earth and they will never have as much rip my heart out and destroy what’s left of my life heartfelt emotion

Superb say so's Susie!
I have so many but my favorite at the moment is two parts in Goodbye To Love from the Carpenters.
The very first sentence of the song and later the fuzz guitar solo from Tony Peluso.

ac/dc ride on where bon scott sings about changing his evil ways turned out prophetic.

always liked the car crash between detroit rock city and king of nighttime by kiss.

the spoken beginning of shout at the devil leading into the actual song.

the beginning of welcome to the jungle kicks ass and never lets up all the way through rocket queen.

agree on the solo off who's crying now.easily one of his best.

To many to mention all. I love a well played guitar solo. One that jumps to mind is Schon's solo in "Little Girl". Nothing overly difficult, just a real melodic, bombastic tone. Symphonic may be the word I am looking for.

Another that jumps to mind right now is Slash's guitar work at the end of November Rain.

Me personally, one that never fails to get the hairs on my arms to stand straight up is the ending bars of Abbey Road.

Knowing how it was the band's last recording together and listening to it's TOTAL GENIUS, and knowing that, for at least that brief period in time, the Beatles actually got along and were "creative" together again in their quest to leave their legacy with one final example of BRILLIANCE...man!

I think the part toward the end where he belts out "Well you know she's standing by your side!!" is better than the aforementioned part. Both great, nonetheless.

The tapped, syncopated intro to Van Halen's "Mean Street", along with the main riff following it.

The intro to Van Halen's "I'm the One".

The slowly building intro to AC/DC's "Snowballed" through when the bass and drums kick in. That whole song is highly underrated.

Intro for Whitesnake's "Still of the Night".

The beautiful, melodic solo in White Lion's "When the Children Cry".

The following section of the song "Mother Love" by Queen...

I've walked too long in this lonely lane
I've had enough of this same old game
I'm a man of the world and they say that I'm strong
But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone
Out in the city, in the cold world outside
I don't want pity, just safe place to hide
Mama please, let me back inside

The sound of the baby crying at the end of the above-mentioned song also always gets to me...

The end solo in Boston's "Hitch a Ride".

Neal's solo in "Still They Ride", etc., etc.

Interesting ...the aforementioned line along
w/that entire stanza, the oohhh~ooooh~ooooh’s from the deepest depth of the
soul and the final You see your world inside her eyes in a barely audible whisper,
touch me more than that line …but it’s in there!!

We Will Meet Again - Journey. The beginning instrumental intro where it starts with Deen's drums, and then Jon comes in with the piano melody overlaying that, and then Neal comes in with his guitar overlaying that, and then Steve comes in. So Beautiful.

The Beatles - This Boy

"Oh, and this boy would be happy
Just to love you, but oh, my, oh
That boy won't be happy
till he's seen you cry "

The Beat - Rock N Roll Girl

"I wish there was an easier way - hey HEY!
To meet the girls of today.."

Aerosmith - Combination

The intro.. cause its so damn MEAN.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The opening acoustic guitars on I Remember You - Live

and then when they plug in mid song...Sebastian, Snake and Scotti at their best.
