I'm referring to his analogy between music and baseball.
I'm thinking for it to make sense it would have to imply that Pro Tools is to music as Steroids is to baseball. At least that's the conclusion I'm coming to on this.

Q: So how long could a singer safely do steroid shots?

A: Everybody would be different, and many times people can get away with it, but when you do it often, then you have a bleed in the vocal cords because you’re singing on already injured vocal cords, and it will cause permanent damage to your vocal cords. And that’s what you’re risking, and that’s what you don’t want to have happen…There’s not any clear answer to how many times you can do that. But, basically, whoever’s giving that shot needs to get into the head of that singer. They need to change something fundamentally if the only way they can get out there to sing is with steroid shots.

Now I have this cartoon-like image of Steve Perry running around a stage horking up blood in the middle of Open Arms.

(then again, Open Arms probably has that effect on many of us now, so maybe it's appropriate...)

Pro Tools is just a recording medium......

The Beatles recorded mono, then stereo.. then 4 track, 8 track and 16 track...

Queen recorded Bohemian Rhapsody on a 24 track 2 inch tape machine

Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon and Def Leppards Hysteria (considered sonic standards for their time) were recorded on tape.

Shannia Twains "UP!" was mixed in Protools...

Neve, API, SSL, Trident mixing consoles are still in use today.... many sessions run through these 30 plus year old consoles, and are stored to hard drive, then mixed in Protools.

This has nothing to do with SONGWRITING...

You are correct. Bostons last 2 albums were mixed in pro tools. any analog track can be processed , pro tools gets a bum rap, certain plug ins, such as auto tune however do muddy the waters.

Ah!! makes much better sense.

However, whether it be pro-tools in music or steroids in baseball, it still comes down to talentless wannabes!

Thanks

Set Mr. Perry up with your avatar for a "duet"...

Bet that'd get him off his butt!

Exactly. It's like if Randy Johnson just one day said "you know, I think I'd like to mow lawns for a living now".
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
