Oh I know, I meant the same thing, people who don't have cops in their families or as friends I believe tend to not think twice about what these men and women face every day. And I believe the same goes for the military too.

I'm kinda sorry I poked my nose into this thread but I want to say something to your statement: You're right there is no draft and people do join mostly with the best of intentions, however, a lot of young people join for financial reasons. I'm not pawning off anything--a lot of American wars were planned and carried out by old, white, rich men. That's the truth. One of them was horribly ridden by guilt for VietNam--Robert McNamara.

This is way too depressing--ta ta.

Hey bro....They joined for financial reasons? In the midst of the nation's declared war on terror? And they thought they could just get by servicing jet engines or making coffee? Go meet a few people on the inside and then come away with a little more knowledge.

You are an idiot, too, plus you're drunk by your own account. Go to hell.

Making friends again I see.

She's allowed to voice her opinion like everyone else who completely got their panties in a twist. I think the soldiers should be commended for the fact that they fight for something they believe in. It's important to have a purpose. But the fact is that war, however necessary you people thought, or still think it is, resolves nothing. The war in Afganhistan is a total clusterfuck; Taliban is stronger and more popular now than ever. Let's not forget that to this day thousands of kids are born in Vietnam with horrible, life crushing physical deformations and mental retardations caused by the dioxine in Agent Orange. War always affects the innocents the most and it's nowhere as noble as you people make it out to be.

But that's more of a argument against your government, than your army. The soldiers should be shown respect for doing what they think is right for their country.

I agree 1,000 percent with this post.

What was wrong with the tone of Stu's post? Pointing out that b.s. celebrity media gossip gets more attention than things that truly matter, like servicemen the same age as spoiled brats like Lohan dying for their country is certainly a worthy point.

And when did Portland ever stir the pot? She goes back and forth with us in fun, like most of us, but come on... she is hardly a stirrer.

Whatever the case may be, it's bullshit of what this thread has turned into. Typical (insert name here) person who wants to make a quick and genuine point as something as easy as supporting our troops in the military, only to be turned into a flame war because (insert name here) feels the right to cause a stir because it's a message board and has every right to scream their own opinion & is just dying to be different to stir controversey.

Point is, is that the intentions of some people on here is so easy to read that it's pathetic that there has to be hate in everything this place does within a simple point of the original poster. Instead of putting differences aside and do only what the thread asks for and do nothing but give respects to our troops and their sacrifices, it lasted all but 5 posts to steer it in the wrong direction.

Way to go, dickheads.

I'll echo Kim - what was wrong with Stu's "tone?" At WORST, it was pointing out that the (admittedly and sadly for my generation, well-deserved) stereotype of the current "Gen Next" or whatever the fuck we are called holding that we are all superficial, entitled and spioiled brats is not all true by pointing out the valiant sacrifices of our service men and women.

Well, then, why don't you and the others on here abide by "Stu's" advice and honor S2M's service to our country instead of jumping all over him and insulting him. I don't know any of the other history with him and I don't really want to know; it doesn't matter to me. His service matters to me though.

I have not jumped on any one and what others have done is simply immaterial to the inquiry: What was wrong with Stu's "tone" in his original post? You're proving to be about as adroit at dodging this question as Kristie Alley in a game of dodgeball

If this is addressed to me: The ONLY contribution I've made to this thread is asking what was wrong with Stu's tone in his post? I'm not sure how I could possibly be hypocritical simply asking a question and addressing no one on any type of merits of what he/she has said.

Actually what Stu said about honoring referred to the Marines that died this week.

I respect anyone that serves our country, and certainly all lives that were lost for it. What I don't respect is an attitude that puts down the men and women that lost their lives. It's even more disrespectful, IMO, that it comes from a person who served. That is beyond my comprehension because I was raised to be respectful (to those who earn it) and ESPECIALLY to our military. My dad would have put me through a wall for ever saying some bullshit like that and he'd have been right to do so.

And admittedly, this is rubbing me extra raw having just attended a family service last week for a serviceman.

I agree with that as long as it's done respectfully--however, seems to me just about everybody jumped on him and insulted the dude and he tried to explain how he felt. Once again he has some kind of history with the people on here which I could care less about. He DID serve so he not only is a veteran but knows something about the military--probably more than most people on here know.
