Ha ha, no, he SAID he served, and no one that would brush off the deaths of american service men and women would have actually served, so I call bullshit.

And if there was any DOUBT in my mind that this person actually held this opinion, it would be a different story. However it was clear to me and many others of us in our ivory towers that it was just stated to garner attention for himself. And using the honorable deaths of innocent people in order to draw attention to yourself makes you a piece of shit in my book. Maybe not yours - hey, we're all entitled to our "opinions," right?

I'm kinda sorry I poked my nose into this thread but I want to say something to your statement: You're right there is no draft and people do join mostly with the best of intentions, however, a lot of young people join for financial reasons. I'm not pawning off anything--a lot of American wars were planned and carried out by old, white, rich men. That's the truth. One of them was horribly ridden by guilt for VietNam--Robert McNamara.

This is way too depressing--ta ta.

Hey bro....They joined for financial reasons? In the midst of the nation's declared war on terror? And they thought they could just get by servicing jet engines or making coffee? Go meet a few people on the inside and then come away with a little more knowledge.

You are an idiot, too, plus you're drunk by your own account. Go to hell.

Making friends again I see.

She's allowed to voice her opinion like everyone else who completely got their panties in a twist. I think the soldiers should be commended for the fact that they fight for something they believe in. It's important to have a purpose. But the fact is that war, however necessary you people thought, or still think it is, resolves nothing. The war in Afganhistan is a total clusterfuck; Taliban is stronger and more popular now than ever. Let's not forget that to this day thousands of kids are born in Vietnam with horrible, life crushing physical deformations and mental retardations caused by the dioxine in Agent Orange. War always affects the innocents the most and it's nowhere as noble as you people make it out to be.

But that's more of a argument against your government, than your army. The soldiers should be shown respect for doing what they think is right for their country.

I wasn't arguing the validity of the war. I wasn't even talking about that at all. I said I was a liberal flagwavin' peacenik in my original post. But I do agree with your last sentence.

What's funny to me in all this is that I distinctly remember a person in this thread, who stated they were a military cop, arguing with someone else here that cops like my husband are nothing but "fucking street cops" who know nothing. But I kept my mouth shut back then because 1) I don't care for gigantic doses of testosterone lobbed at me  and 2) he's entitled to his opinion, even if I find it to be utter crap. Oh and by the way, S2M was a military cop too, if I remember right.

And while I don't agree with him saying what he did because of how it comes across, what I find sad is that some of you are more intelligent than this and aren't realizing that he didn't actually disparage those who have died.

This is a message board and the silly fights you carry on with each other I don't know or care about. He stated he served; I believe him. Whatever causes you to not believe him doesn't concern me.

Yet you don't believe Portland when she says her name is Holly? And instead make a cloak-and-dagger comment about her lying because you don't "know for a fact" who she is? Seems a little lopsided to me. But hey, that's just my opinion...

I respectfully disagree. Using the deaths of so many young people to make yourself the center of attention on an internet thread DOES disparate those who died. And I have the same amount of respect for police officers and firemen that I do for the military. My dad was a highway patrol officer who was ambushed by two escaped criminals and in the subsequent shoot out took both of them down from behind the door of his cruiser. Yeah, men and women of law enforcement deserve our respect too.

Yes....but then some here actually know me off the board....so it really does not matter.

Fred is right about one thing.....she/he/it will never know me...as I already did my Psych. rotation and found being locked in a unit with crazy people not to be my cup of tea.

Why? No one insisted on closing your religious or other personal agony threads... Don't judge.

First off, a religious thread is a religious debate out in the open to explore the intentions of ones opinion on the subject (Plus, I only participated, never made a thread. The only thread I've ever made was what? NFL threads?) You and many else are involved in flaming wars in a thread not open to the debates that have turned into a debate of a flame war. I don't even know what the fuck you're talking about with personal agony? But judging by your posts, I don't expect you to wake up and understand the words that you're reading, hot-head.

MG is right, closing this thread down for the sake of the little credibility (if any) of respect is the way to go, but I'm done in this thread. Carry on for the next 10 pages of flame with nowhere to go but to be closed.

I respectfully agree to disagree, lol, I just don't read it as meaning to purposely disparage, even despite not being worded well. I highly doubt he doesn't hold respect for people who have served and are serving, and those who have died doing so. I guess I'm too into giving people the benefit of the doubt before pouncing.

Very sorry about your dad:(

Folks,
I just passed my 20yr-mark this past Oct 1st, and I am still serving on active duty...
While S2M's initial comments did come off pretty assinine, below the surface I tend to slightly
agree with what I think he was trying to say...

Sure, we all signed up for various reasons but at the heart of it all, it all stems
back to wanting to make a difference and serve our country.
When I think of that, I think of "keeping America out of harm's way."
Today's war on terrorism is like no war that has ever been fought; the enemy isn't just
throwing themselves at us in waves. They are in hiding. They are secretive and selective in their attacks.

I know that everytime I have deployed, specifically to Iraq three times in the past four years,
I can tell that our troops are making a difference, no matter how small. We're destroying
munitions caches, catching bad guys, and trying to bring some stability to a nation that,
believe it or not, wants us there; yes, I've been outside the wire and in the communities...
They want us there but fear supporting us openly will bring terror and attacks from
the terrorists still hiding and running amuck in the region.

I sometimes feel our men and women are dying needlessly for a cause that may not seem
important to those back here on US soil. I mean, there really isn't a huge "war"
that we can follow on CNN, pick sides and track the progresss every hour.

This is a war that is quietly progressing at a slow pace but we will make a difference.
These men and women are dying to keep terrorist attacks like 911 away from US soil
and to make sure we can all have a sense of security here in the US.

So I can see how S2M may feel that these individuals did not die for him...
But I also wonder if he'd think otherwise if he saw things
from a different perspective...
like through the eyes of those of us that are still in the fight and trying to make a difference...
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

Carlitto, thanks for your 20 years of service. However I still feel that using the deaths of young people to rile up people on an internet message board is beyond reprehensible. Did they die fighting a just war? Who knows. That wasn't my point. What I do think is that flippantly stating, "meh, they didn't die for ME" shows a pretty troubling lack of humanity.

No, you're right. His statement was assinine and pretty fucked up.

+1000000... thanks for your career service HAWK... and the bigger picture has always been to make the mideast region a better and more secure
place for future generations to live and prosper... however as you so well put, some will only think of themselfs...and not the bigger or whole picture... and yes the service men and woman
die for us every day... and including those who say they dont...

Yeah, right, "Holly."

Uh, 'scuse me. Totally unfair and without warrant. I happen to know her apart from this board. She's real and that's her real name.

Hmm, hmmm. I guess if you declare something unfair and without warrant, then it must be so. However, I don't know for a fact who she is...

Hmmm hmmm, and I guess if S2M declares he served in the military, then it must be so. However, you don't know for a fact if he did.

I asked him a looong time ago what is company/division/MOS and rank was, and he never answered. Hmmm.

No, you're right. His statement was assinine and pretty fucked up.
However, I can easily understand why people like him feel the way they do,
that this 'war' is not "for them and their freedoms".

Soome people just can't see the bigger picture...

Carlitto,. you are missing the point. Hell, I am 100% against the war(s), but what he was saying was not that(until a page or so later, which I then agreed with him). His lack of compassion for the LIVES of these young and I mean young men, and his careless brushing aside of what they do(did), is what I think pissing people off. He was trying to divert the words he said to the idealogue of the Wars. No way. He said what he said, and it was the worst thing I have ever read on this Board.

It isn't "so" because I "declare" it that way. It's unfair and without warrant because she didn't do anything or behave in a way that would warrant an accusation that she is some psycho fake personality. Just because you don't know her doesn't mean she's "susie". All it means is you don't know her.
