John Farnham tonight (a little review & set list)

Postby Vladan » Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:24 pm

Yes! this should be a good show, anyone is Australia catching Johnny? seeing him at 8PM tonight, probably be the standard set list. Last tour, he sang his hits, and a couple new songs.

Gee I hope he doesn't do too many new ones, but he probably will. Would be nice if he did some of those tunes from the Rad soundtrack, random rare stuff like that.

I know he doesn't usually do LRB but 'We Two' is a great song.

True, that is a great song, he did a lot of good songs with LRB. I think though, he will most likely do "Playing To Win" I think it's the only one he does?.

So? How did it go? Still up to snuff? Set list? Spill the beans!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Alright! well it was interesting, we had really close seats a couple away from the very front of the stage, so it was close! it was at the AIS Arena.

The set list was the standard one. From memory... in no particular order. Well this concert was different from his Last Time Tour, because he use to come out singing the first half ballads, and second half rockers, now he just mixes them all together, which is good!. And the main thing I got from this show, is because I'm a singer as well, been taking it very very very seriously since my last posting here, and I've been improving a lot, in fact I think you will all be shocked now if you heard me, anyway... to other matters! now it was refreshing to see a proffesional do his thing, it was really really nice to see a guy at the top of his game, just simply entertain, and he is bloody good. I mean if you go and see a lot 80's singers, people cringe and hope and pray the singer can still hit those notes, or the fans will complain if they sing the song slower, or they have lost their voice... well NOT John Farnham, he's still the same singer he was 30+ years ago.

Set List.

Reasons
Chain Reaction (no shades of passion, or surrender) this is Farny's version! ;)
Playing To win (Crazy vocals here) just insane, got this on the Iphone
Your the Voice
A new track from his new album (it was nice, wasn't classic material)
Pressure Down
Age Of Reason
Two Strong Hearts
Man Of The Hour
A new track from his new album (again it was nice and obviously doesn't matter what he sings because he's so good anyway)
Every Time You Cry
A new track from his new album (yeah)
That's Freedom
A Touch Of Paradise
Simple Life
Hearts On Fire
It's A Long Way To The Top (ACDC cover) was awesome! tore the roof off the place.
A new Song (I'm pretty sure he did 3 or 4 of them)

That was pretty much the set list, perhaps missing one or two, and of course the joke cracking, and a couple solo's from the band members, it was a packed show. His voice is... I have to say the best! I've ever heard from anyone, I mean the power in his voice is insane! he's still got it, high voice, he has to pull the microphone a foot away from his mouth because he's too powerful, I was right there, he's just insane. He is 60 years old! he leaves anyone younger, or that age for dead, he's just the best, even at 60!.

The band sounded awesome as always, there was some crazy fan who jumped on stage and hugged John. John said "sweetie you have to go, security will come", she didn't listen, he told her a couple times, then he started to get a little freaked, because she wouldn't let go... but he's use to it I'm sure. The Fans were mostlly older folks, some young cute girls which was nice to see, some die hards as well.

All in all, he's too powerful as a singer to be singing in a venue like the AIS arena, holds like 9,000+ people?, his voice projects way too much or they just couldn't get the level right? but either way, if I were to sum up the evening... "WOW'.

Very cool. I only wish I could see him live just once. Judging from some recent stuff, I think he has lost a little of the very high range since the Last Time tour, but overall he is still one of the best live singers on the planet.

Many people could take a lesson from him, as he makes it all seem effortless regardless of the style--and he is a master at modifying his delivery to compensate for a day when his range isn't quite where it is normally.

Kev, was that you who posted a live performance of his You're The Voice? Somebody posted one a while back in one of these threads. He was older, and it was a big audience I think, and everybody was singing along. He sounded fantastic! I can't remember/find it on youtube......that performance just gave me the chills. There is something about that song I just love. Must be the delivery. Whooo whooo whooo.

it might be...

it's either this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4AHxr9Lh9s from the Jack of Hearts concert in 1996 with acoustic intro
or, more likely, this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc3sb0VtqLo from the "farewell" show in 2003

it must be the delivery. That song is deceptively difficult to sing. Heart it fall flat too many times to count. It lives and dies on the vocal.

Cheese n Crackers, that man can definitely still sing his ass off! Yep, it's that second clip. Just LOVE that song. :) Is that from a dvd?

I thought Heart did a great job on it...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQNxrdlk7-g&ob=av2e But yes, definitely missing JF's delivery. Just love his "whoo ooo's", the whole chorus just gives me goosebumps. :)

yes....The Last Time. Full uncut 2.5hr show. 40 minute acoustic to open, then about 20 songs in full band. VERY good. PAL only, but if you have a dvd player that will supports it, it's well worth the money. Makes a nice live cd also.

Heart didn't murder it (don't think you can murder a song with Ann Wilson singing it), but didn't knock it out of the ballpark like Farnham did.
