Jon Cain Not Let Into FTLOSM Show

Postby Saint John » Sat Nov 06, 2010 8:20 am

I'm wondering if Lora and/or Cyndy can shed some light on this. Jonathan Cain mentioned that he went to a FTLOSM show and wasn't let in. Is this true? If so, can you shed some light for all of us? Who didn't let him in? Was Jon too cheap to buy a ticket? Is this where "Fear The Beard" came from?

I have always found this to be a fascinating story, especially since they reunited shortly afterward. I'd just like to know what really happened that night. Lora? Cyndy? Nostrildamus?

Dan, you never fail to amuse me.

That would be interesting to know because there are always three sides to a story. It NEVER plays out the way it's told. There's ALWAYS a bad case of telephone going on in the stories of this band we call Journey. On all sides.

Absolutely. But I'm *guessing* that Lora and Cyndy were helping run the show for Perry back then and I'm sure that, if anything happened that night as Jon alleges, they know. :)

Where did this supposedly take place? I remember in SF, Perry was playing at I believe the Warfield the same night as I was attending The Abraxas Pool show at the Filmore. If this was the night, I am sure Jon could have just rode across town and hopped into the Filmore. I am pretty sure it wasn't planned that way, but heck of a thing having Perry and then Schon and Rolie playing in town on the same night. I know the Filmore was packed, and I assume the Warfield was also.

To quote SJ, "Lora, Cyndy, Nostrildamus"?

Did they get real quiet and wait until he stopped knock? That shit has always sounded funny to me. Didn't Neal say Jon wasn't even allowed in the building? How do you do that? Did they have bouncers on the lookout for a guy with a taint brush and a keytar?

If I'm not mistaken, I think he said he went to the show to see what the status of Journey was.

Duh, hello! SP is already touring alone and Friga doesn't know what the status of Journey is? Get that man a watch so he can tell what time it is! :D :D

I'm sure he just wanted to know if Nostrildamus was going to tour with the "A" team after his little ego-stroking, cash grab was over, or if they should start looking for a new lead singer.

Well it took a little while and he got the answer.

Dan, I have a question for you.....

In the event that Journey were to kiss and make up and head out on a last tour together....would buy a ticket???

I'm on record as saying that I would pay a few thousand dollars to see that ("one off") show . In the event it happened to be a tour, I would probably do at least 10 shows. That lineup is my favorite of any band ever, and I have always maintained that.

2 things here:

First, I can separate the artist from the person. I'm not a puddle-pantied Loon, stammering around in awe of all things "Stephen." I don't do that for anyone. Well, maybe Betty White.  The guy was a fantastic artist.

Second, I'm not a real big fan of Steve Perry the band mate. By all indications, the guy was a super-douche from about 1985 to 1998. The firings of Smith, Valory and Herbert, the 2 shortened tours (ROR and FTLOSM) and the aborted TBF tour, pretty much tell me the guy didn't have his shit together at all and decided to make everyone pay. That said, Steve Perry could be the greatest humanitarian, friend, father, and grandfather on this planet. That is something that I have no idea about. Nor is it really any of my business. I'm just a message board-posting jackoff that sounds off on band related shit. :)

LMAO.....Lora should appreciate that post!

I too can actually separate the artist from the person....(surprise)....I actually knew you answer..I just wanted to see
it in type.

Regardless of what has/has not happened with this band....a reunion would make us all forget...if just for the time we were there
actually seeing it happen...not that it will.

As for the message board jack-off....I think you, like many of us jack-offs....would love to see "it" happen!!

A Perry fronted Journey at this point blows the doors off all others...if it were to happen.

May I too "sound off"....

"head cheerleaders" ?

Associated Press, January 17 1997
Trial By Fire Brings Journey Back After 10 Years
By KIRA L. BILLIK

Where Cain and Schon are Journey's head cheerleaders, Perry seems to be the grounding force; he said the creative process was still "a tug-of-war."
"In a lot of ways it was the same," Perry said. "That was the good news. In a lot of ways, it hadn't changed much either and that was the bad news. It would be not realistic to tell you that this was like a cakewalk honeymoon number two - we have our conflicts.
"The good news was that we got together anyway and were able to move out of it and move forward with it," he said.

"ROR and TBF are nothing more than Steve fucking Perry's failed attempt to to convince the fans that HE'S the only reason that Journey still exists." (SJ's siggy)

With it supposedly being Neal's band, what did he say about all of this and the firing of Smith, his pal Valory and his like a dad, Herbie?

Why wasn't JSS let in to a Journey show in Europe after he flat out saved their asses and as well as their careers?

Froy!
What's your take on the so called notion that Smitty and Vallory were fired? Wasn't it just that Perry, Schon and Cain got together and decided to make music. Smitty didn't know click drumming and Vallory lacked Randy's funk is the way I heard it.

It is a fascinating story, SJ. The only people who know exactly what happened and why (IF anything really happened) are Perry and Cain. As usual on this board, people take 1+1 and add it up to 55. My guess, if Cain did try to meet up with Perry at a show, is that Perry wouldn't have wanted to be bothered before a performance, to not break his performance groove - he has spoken of his pre-concert groove before. And maybe after a show just wasn't the time and place. Whatever the issues may have been, they both had gotten over them, at least to get together and do TBF. It's also much easier to criticize way after the fact, considering all of the FUBAR history since '96. But yeah, the story is fascinating. Almost as good as McCartney and Lennon watching SNL together, kicking around the idea of doing a surprise walk-on.

Yes, Deano, I know that Journey ain't the Beatles. But Perry and Cain would be the McCartney and Lennon of Journey, no?
