I'm glad we can agree.

I hope his new Grand Piano sounds better than the Toys R' Us model he used on the re-records.[/quote]

I can agree with that. The fisher price instruments need to be put away.
maybe they will tune it up to the proper pitch

I'm amped about this world tour, too. I've been waiting to do some out-of-the-country traveling and this might be the perfect excuse to set a firm date. Don, we going to The Philippines?

When did Schon hire you as his official mouthpiece? Come on dude, "tour behind a new album?" How the fuck are they going to play anything new when they are on the road with, ahem, 2 other acts? There isn't any time to play something new. And you know damned good and well they are going to play those Goddamned dirty dozen songs til the day they die.

I'm not an uptight fan, man. Give me 3 or 4 new songs like the last tour and I'm content. Hell, some shows had as many as 5-6. And I don't mind the Dirty Dozen one iota. I don't listen to Journey at all during the year. By the time the tour rolls around I'm ready to hear the classics.

Exactly what my FIRST initial thought was. Where's Arnel? Must be gearing up to blow out his voice or something. Damn, was looking forward to see Pineda atleast OFFER more than a couple of song to the table. I'm very jacked up with this anticipation though, can't wait for this!

Well, per Jonathan Cain, it looks like the jilted faction of the Journey fan base got punched right in the face again.

Let's take a look at some of the past predictions from the SPoons (Mr. Perry's fans), Wigglers (Mr. Augeri's fans) and Soso's (Mr. Soto's fans):

"Journey is done making new music." Wrong!

"Journey will never have another album in the Top 10." Wrong!

"Journey will never make another DVD." Wrong X 2!

"Journey will never have another Gold or Platinum album." Wrong and ... wrong!

"Nobody is going to buy Live In Manila." Wrong! It went #1!

"Journey won't get another deal with Walmart." Wrong!

I'm surprised some of you actually have the audacity to still make predictions! How many times do you need to be proven wrong before you pack up what little bit of pride you have left (if any) and call it a day?!?! The band is poised for another tremendously successful album and (by all accounts) will embark on a 2 year world tour. They're taking the music to the people and covering every inch of the globe in doing so. They're straying far, far away from the comforts of home and trying to expand the fan base to include as much of the world as possible. It pains me in in many ways to say this, but I think it's time to give Uncle Irv a little credit.  He's regrouped from the mini pothole in the road that was Tapegate and has them sailing along just fine. He finally pieced together a solid lineup. Good luck to all past and present journeymen. :)

Too much. Want to talk predictions? Shall I dig up the post where you guaranteed us all Perry was returning?

LOL, and Tapegate would have been a lot bigger had anyone given two shits about Journey. Dude they flew under the radar during that sleaze moment because no one gives a rat's ass about Journey. You think U2 could get away with it? You think Springsteen could mime his way through a tour and not get any attention? You think Tom Petty could pull off Tapegate? Again, no one cares about Journey, except those fucked up Pinoys who are more blind than Ray Charles.

No one gave a shit about Journey, Dean. However, Journey is no longer a varsity act with a JV quarterback. For the first time since 1986, they've got a singer that's drawing attention and selling albums/DVDs and sparking interest.

I concur. It's just worth pointing out that certain people have been wrong at every turn since Arnel was hired. I, too, was initially a skeptic, but it's hard not to eventually realize that the guy can just flat out sing. But it doesn't make you wrong if you still don't have any desire to purchase their product(s).

I beg to differ. What you have to remember here is that this isn't the 80's anymore. I don't really hear new Bon Jovi, Springsteen or AC/DC songs on the radio either. "Relevant" is a relative term and, relative to the times, these guys are doing just fine.

This was all I could find (and it's from a blog):

The 'woo hoo' in Elevation is pre-recorded and with that in mind who knows how many falsetto bits have a pre-recorded element (i.e. the falsetto before the chorus in COBL comes to mind...) - it's a shame but it is all a matter of where to draw the line...that's up to the U2 camp...I'd prefer they keep the vocals all live (although Beautiful Day may be an exception as it is a full on choir, not just a single harmonized vocal)

In terms of Miss Sarajevo and SYCMIOY (the operatic parts parts) - I don't think there is any track here - Bono is going all out - but it is likely that the sound engineer is using a vocal doubling effect to thicken the sound...it's common in live music to use these sorts of effects...Bon Jovi uses them all the time I think...it basically is a digital copy of whatever is sung that is superimposed over top the singer's voice in real time (with a very small delay (i.e. unrecognizable as a delay to our ears). Bono also undoubtedly uses "pitch correction" technology that takes notes that are slightly off key and corrects them.
