Good for him, he has nothing to prove, his body of work stands for itself.

Well said. You're right, Neal is again digging Perry for not singing. I guess it's okay to retire from any other professional career except for singing.

Watch out Mick Jagger... the moment you retire, Keith Richards will be on YouTube searching for your replacement.

What do being retired and singing one song have to with one another? A lot of retired singers, meaning they don't tour anymore, sing songs when asked.

Have you come so accustomed to the guy doing absolutely nothing that you consider it arduous to sing one fucking song?!?!  Jesus, I think he could handle the walk out to the mic just fine. Well, knowing him, he might hurt his hip again and cancel.

Seriously dude? Sometimes you sound like the guy has actually broke your heart before or something. What really happened back at that FTLSM show you went to?

I didn't realize Perry was asked to sing a song?!?! What would he have sang ...
Lights or DSB ...without a band ...Oh Sherrie?!? Ridiculous!! SSB is out of the question, per
SP ...didn't he say he could never do it justice, or something of that nature?!? ... :?

He could have pulled out some "Sittin on the dock of the Bay" from one of his idols. Not too difficult to sing and area appropriate.

You could say Journey, Styx and Foriegner all followed the path laid down by REO with Hi Infidelity as Paradise Theater, Foreigner 4 and Escape all changed their formulas to a more pop sound than what had been featured on previous efforts.

Hi Infidelty didn't just hit #1, it dominated the charts in 1981 as far as rock albums go.

 Was also my wedding song. We picked it as the first dance, it was our song, but wasn't as easy to waltz to as you might think. It's actually more mid tempo then slow ballad.

He's admitted to being a perfectionist, and is obviously an emotion driven person, and I'm thinking it would be really tough for a guy like that to get up and sing with musicians who can still perform as well or better than ever, and have seen him at his best. It's easy as hell to restring your guitar and sound good as new, but it's not that way with the voice.

I'm guessing he was extremely driven for approval after his dad left and rejected him when he was seven years old. He found his gift to sing and discovered that it could be used to gain the approval of others. He then used it to gain the world's approval in a subconscious attempt to fill the void that losing his dad's approval left in his soul. Once he reached superstardom and got the approval of the world and it still didn't fill the void, he got burned out and withdrew back into the private person that he was to begin with.

Just a guess.

Ding ding ding, what do we have for him Johnny? I think that is a very logical guess. I don't think it's difficult to figure the guy out, really.

Great job of avoiding the question. Again, what do being retired from touring and refusing to sing one song in public (even though your bullhorns continue to purport that voice sounds "as good as any time in the mid 80's"  ) have to do with each other?

And I enjoyed the FTLOSM shows. I enjoyed them because they were good. They put a face to songs that were the voice of my favorite band. And I was able to have an incredibly good time without hugs, autographs, pictures, or any other form of stalking/14 year old behavior. Though I did get 2 high 5's during the show.

Wasn't avoiding the question, you've lost me, I have no idea what you're asking Voyager? :? 1. Not sure what Perry not touring has to do with anything either? :? 2. I must have missed the post about him being asked to sing a song in public. :?

And 3. Are you calling me a stalking 14 year old? Now that's funny, Beiber lover. Do I love my music? You bet! Do I love LIVE shows? You bet! Do I love going on fun Rock junkets with friends? You bet! Am I lucky that all 3 of my favorite vocalists happen to be extremely down-to-earth and fan-friendly. You bet! Was a fan of each long before I ever met any of them, and to find out their good people too.......well, that's just icing on the cake. And sorry dude, just like any other people, some artists are huggers, some aren't. You might want to check your deodorant.

My original retort was to Voyager, who spazzed because Schon said it's a shame that Perry didn't sing. He concluded that the man is retired, and I pointed out that being retired from touring and singing one song have no correlation, as many "retired" touring artists pop up for cameos.

As for the second part, I completely agree with you about live music, live music trips and being able to meet artists. It's the autographs, the posted sig pics, the key chains and the fridge magnets that are indicative of a 14 year old crush. If you're going to see it fit to call me out for questioning the actions of former band members (on a message board where you'd expect that sort of stuff) and see it fit to state that I act as though they personally "broke my heart," I am going to, in turn, question the behavior of someone that posts "woo hoo's" in her sig, buys key chains and fridge magnets as a 40+ year old and has a perpetual fascination with moving videos in her sig and avatar. That's Justin Beieber fan material. The difference is they don't even drive yet. You do.

The reason I jokingly (in case you didn't catch the laughing smileys in my original post  ) posted that, is because you consistantly take swipes at Perry, Soto, etc. weather it be in your posts or sigs, so yes sometimes IMO you come across overly bitter.

So let me get this straight? How many 14 year olds collect rock album magnets? I love album cover art, always have. I have done it for years and have all of Journey's album cover magnets and Bon Jovi's and a few other bands. So what if I bought a few album cover keychains too when I bought a Talisman, Soul Sirkus, WET, etc. album magnet? And unlike your buddy Tito (with his wheelbarrel full of cds  ) I rarely ask for an autograph, save for maybe just a few band cd covers over the years. But yes, I asked EM to sign that pic in my sig as it is a GREAT musical memory for me to be able to have a pic sharing a laugh with 2 of my all-time favorite vocalists, and hopefully will sometime down the road be able to have JSS sign it too. So on that, you can kiss my ass. And if sometimes throwing a fun moving avatar in my sig or posting a "very happy smiley" in my sig cuz one of my all-time favorite bands recently re-united and I finally get to see them LIVE............makes me a 14 year old at heart in your opinion, then yeah, I guess I don't want to get old. :P

Yes we have, but you did go overboard this time with your personal attack on my love of music. But obviously my comment on your consistant negativity hit close to home and brought out your cranky biatch. Happy people piss you off, don't they? But I'm nothing if but a good sport, no skin off my ass, so it's all good. :) But fair warning, if you find yourself crapping out that Mr Big bottle opener the day after the show, you have nobody to blame but yourself.
