Get over it. How, exactly, did this alleged tapegate effect you? Fuck, at this point it's only music. The band is way past it's heyday but still puts on a great show. Most of the world doesn't even know the lipping took place, much less care. I'd prefer to still have the option of seeing Journey live instead of nothing, especially when you could do much worse for entertainment.

Just out of curiosity, how many shows did you see with JSS at the helm? Steve Augeri? SP?

3 with Perry + 1 FTLOSM concert, zero JSS, one with Augeri and 3 with AP.

Nothing beats Perry, but, I've enjoyed the others too.

Don wrote:Journey Rep: Steve Perry Not Rejoining Band
November 12, 2010 - Rock and Pop

By Ray Waddell

Journey spokesperson Larry Solters says reports that Steve Perry may rejoin Journey are inaccurate. "The British news reporters are confused," Solters tell Billboard.biz. "Just like we don't understand cricket, they don't understand baseball. Journey is recording an album with [current lead singer] Amel [Pineda] for a record to be released next year supported by a world tour. We wish Steve the best."

Here is the translation of that statement:
The Brits are almost as dumb as Perry.

Yea, the whole thing is false, but even if Steve Perry DID ask to rejoin the band...( you know, just in case)...er...well.. no thanks.

We have Arnel Pineda now, so we don't need Perry.

Oh and Steve, kiss off (translation: wish you the 'best')
Your friend, Neal

Oh my I am so ashamed of my hometown local station! Shame on them for jumping on a bandwagon that has no wheels. I want to know why all these sites are not only reporting something not confirmed but also copying and pasting what the first site wrote..

My question is why would all these News stations care about a guy that lots of people say 'nobody cares about anymore'?
Why is a Perry fronted Journey news, anyway?

lol ...don't be ashamed, it has been reported all over the US ...Philly, Washington, Cali, LA etc. and all over the world ...
have you checked out the WWW?!? If it weren't for MR, I would've
believed it as well. Contrary to popular belief (around here), there are millions of people
who would have loved the opportunity to see this
band fronted by SP, it's news because people care ...who knows who was misquoted/misunderstood?!?!
Given NS's past comments, more than likely the geetar player was
probably making one of his smart~ass comments and it was taken out of context.
You know how journalists are, they don't understand baseball and we don't understand cricket.

One thing is for certain, NS is responsible for providing some great entertainment around here with
his off the cuff comments of late, so thanks for that, Neal ...someone owes you money!!

Hey, Sally Struthers - take it easy with the namecalling. Forgot your meds today or something?

Perry isn't Journey, and he never were (it's called a band). Neal, Deen, Arnel, Valory and Cain is Journey right now. The band members have changed, but Journey were never about one person (if it was, then that would've been Schon). Nostrildamus would still be wading in turkey shit if it wasn't for Herbie.

How did it affect me? Simple if I want to hear prerecorded music I'd download a bootleg, listen to Arrival 2001, or listen to the record. Fact is the band knowingly was taking money from myself and other fans while not performing everything live. I won't support the band live unless they get Perry back in the band. I'll support the studio efforts and possibly any kind of live album effort they put out, but my days of spending $40+ to see this band live without Perry as a vocalist died when I found out about Tapegate.

I saw them once after tapegate broke (I had purchased tickets to a show before tapegate broke) and that show was the 2nd worst show I've been to (Quiet Riot being the worst). I don't care if they have JSS, Augeri, Pineda, or Joe Blow as the vocalist. If they don't have Perry I won't be at a show. Fuck that money grubbing machine.

I don't like hearing vet musicians struggle vocally, but I have a much greater respect for seeing a band like KISS who goes out and performs a legit show even with Paul Stanley's voice sounding like shit these days with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer than I od going to see a band like Journey who tries to trick their fans by thinking their vocalist is singing when the only thing that he's singing on is prerecorded vocals.

It's because Perry fronted Journey made magical music. Arnel, Augeri, JSS, Fleischman fronted Journey made music that no one other than the hardcore fan base could really care about.

Neal's right. Go with the guy that's dependable and WANTS to work.
Arnie Boy has proven that even though he's in a different country,
he's still more dependable than SP and can be relied upon to do the job.
That's what you do in business- go with the sure thing.
SP was responsible for a helluva lot of Journey's success, but in the end,
he stiffed them on more than one occasion. If Perry wants to be in Journey,
have Jon and Neal write with him and let Arnel do the touring and singing.

If Perry needs to get back into music, then Perry needs to put his own band together now.
Will it happen? Doubt it.

Everybody says what a douche Neal is. Neal waited around for YEARS while Perry
himmed and hawed and in the end burned the band. Why should they go with that?
To those that say "Neal just wants the dough"- well, if he did, then Perry would be
in the band because with Perry, they make more money than with Arnel.
There are more important things than money. Sanity for one.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

What?!?! You know the story is not true, right?!? Someone should probably ask Perry
if he wants to be in the band ...none the less, I don't believe that ^^^^ for one
single millisecond, just my nickel, though ...partly based on Neal's own words ...

I know a lot of people want Neal's comments to be true so they can put a feather in their little Fro's cap but business wise, it would have been foolish. Perry still has a lot of say in certain things in the Journey world like licensing agreements and DVD material. If I was slighted in public like that, I would have no problem taking my toys and going home.
'You want to put out another DVD? Fine, just know every song I've co-written will not be included when you are done editing. You want to use our songs on Rock Band or an updated Band Doc? Forget it. You want to sing DSB on what show to promote your next album? Puleease."
I'm not saying Perry would do these things . Of course, if he did the band could take him to court though I'm not sure they would succeed getting anywhere, copyright law is pretty rigid. In the end I doubt Schon would do that as we have seen how easily they conceded that crazy separation contract to Perry years ago. Simply stating, to disparage an ex-band mate in the public arena isn't a great idea, especially if you don't have the ability to create new material to supercede what you did with that person.

As far as the New King comment, Arnel may have clout with the two million people that saw Journey on tour over the last three years or bought Revelation but for Hundreds of Millions of people that only experience Journey on the radio every day/week/year, It's the Perry era that is and forever will be KING. Arnel is a great vocalist but when it comes to creating a new legacy, music wise for an established band, Brian Johnson/ Sammy Hagar, he ain't.
On the other side of the coin though, Arnel, Benoit and Kelly do what they are hired to do; Get folks to buy tickets to watch them perform songs people remember from three decades ago. Nothing fancy or earthshaking about it and these three guys do it well.

I just heard this story repeated a few minutes ago on the local classic rock station. They were still reporting it as fact that Perry asked to come back and Journey told him no... they even had a sound byte from Jonathan Cain saying that he was done with Perry, that they were happy with Arnel and that there was no going back. Interesting...makes you wonder if Journey leaked this "story" to get some of Perry's recent pub for themselves?

Hi MG- Yeah, I know it's not true. But the fact remains that if Neal was just trying to make dough, he'd do ANYTHING to get Perry back in there and he also wouldn't be so anti-Perry in his interviews. He'd be cooler to him. I mean, if a guy is basically saying "f*** u" in interviews, then it's pretty obvious that no reunion is going to happen. I saw this heading and knew it was BS immediately.

I find it laughable that anyone could think Perry whos over 60 and was done
singing the catalog decades ago would even consider rejoining them.
of course neal would take him, he would use a cardboard cutout and recordings if he could get
away with it, Steve was and is the smart one, he must get a kick out of stupid rumors like this...

"....The false story is believed to have surfaced after the Daily Star misused a quote from guitarist Neal Schon, who recently said: “He’s no longer the lead singer – he walked out..........A spokesman for the singer [Perry] says: “It’s just not true. The story came from London, the home of tabloids – they make up stories every day. Steve is enjoying his retirement.”

WMGK, Philly's classic rock station, is reporting the incident today. They get a bit more in detail about not asking Perry back. It all screams sour grapes to me...

This looks like patched together quotes from other interviews. The Jon Cain remarks I remember from a year or two ago.

Well, the only thing that DOES seem accurate about this whole thing is that Neal thinks that Steve is enjoying the spotlight a little too much.

Edit the story down to that one little quote and it still says a lot...no matter which team you're on.

 ... Soto would have said yes to whatever they wanted him to. He just didn't have the right voice for the job or the ability to keep his yap shut.

And I find it ironic that the Perry fans try to paint him as this independent man of his own, but they always cry and whine that his voice was destroyed because they toured too much. Well, which is it?

Lastly, yeah, Soto kinda helped them out. It was a partnership of mutual benefit. Soto got the sort of money he can only dream about and Journey didn't have to look for a singer to finish the tour. It's not like they couldn't have found someone else to do the job. The key here is that Soto was available, as most of the other guys that could have filled in probably had commitments.

Gotta love how you throw your conjectures around as fact. Like you have any idea how much money was involved between JSS and Journey or how much he makes now. How many singers could have stepped up at such short notice that pretty much knew the whole catalogue. And you might want to get your facts straight..... Didn't Jeff postpone a Talisman tour when he joined Journey, which ended up later becoming a Talisman farewell tour when he was announced as Journey's official frontman? He wasn't just sitting around like you like to portray, he also had commitments that he re-arranged.

He didn't just kinda sorta help them out. He damn straight helped them out of a bind, no two ways about it.

Dude, you can speak matter of factly to these other posters who have no clue of what happened, but you can't get that shit by me. I do know what happened. You are painting a picture to show Neal and Co in a positive light. The truth is it didn't go down the way you are saying it did, not even close. I am not at liberty to discuss certain intracacies, but I can definitely tell you that you were fed a line of shit, big time. Whomever your Journey source is, he is full of shit and is just feeding you a PR line crafted up by Barouck or Azoff himself. JSS was not let go because of the inability to "keep his trap shut." There is a whole lot more than you can possibly know, or even piece together. I can tell you also that JSS is happy now, and makes a fine living doing what he is doing. In fact, I believe TSO out charted Journey last year. And I definitely believe they outdrew them on the road as well.
