He's singing it all somber with a straight face. And halfway through the song out comes Bruce Springsteen singing it with him. It was hysterical. And it wasn't Neil Young. It was Jimmy Fallon disguised and I didn't notice it. He sounded just like Neil.

You can see the shinyness of the two-sided tape under his mustache....

No, it never was Neil. It was Jimmy disguised. He sounds just like Neil. It was Springsteen with him.

Oh come on Donald. You don't think Sony would cream their jeans over a box set like this one for Journey? Let's break this down. Journey was one of their biggest bands they ever had...surely cashing in on yesteryear would be too good to let pass. I don't know if Journey kept their notes and ideas like Springsteen did, but I remember reading somewhere that they did save all their recording tapes both studio and live...and trhey had to bake them and all that shit. You gotta think they saved the songbooks too. I just think they could get the same price Bruce is getting here (100 bucks +)if they put out a quality product. Now it also comes down to working management too. Bruce has Jon Lanau as his manager. Landau manages ONE artist and devotes his entire time to him. Azoff Mgt has multiple artists in which Journey is not the top horse in the barn. Would Azoff put in the required work and backing support needed to make this a top seller? Would they push the damned thing and advertise? That is the wild card IMHO.
Rockindeano wrote:One more thing Gunbot- I now am rethinking this idea....maybe Journey couldn't do this with one album like Bruce did with Darkness. Maybe it would have to be a career type box set, but they could really reveal many lost gems, happenings, ideas, goof offs in the studios, etc. Maybe release a "The Classic Years" Journey box set. I was probably over reaching in my previous post, calling for an Escape or Frontiers only box set. They didn't write 70 songs for each album to choose from like Bruce did, so that may quell that idea, but I still maintain you could sell a real high quality set for the years '78-'96. You wouldn't really have to release all the same songs you already have...you could release demos, live versions, alternative versions, unreleased songs both with lyrics and without, etc. I am sure they have enough material to do this. And, like Springsteen, release a few NEVER RELEASED concert DVD's that the Journey fan has been clamoring for, ahem, ROR and maybe that Japan Frontiers show, or even the last show with Rolie that Herbert maintains is the best Journey show he has ever seen. There is material to be delivered if they want to do it.

Not for what Irving would want them to give up for it. Probably an additional two album deal of new material with all marketing paid by Sony, and a dollar per disc rate more in line with any Wal-Mart offers. If Sony doesn't think they can get at least one multi-platinum album out of this new lineup they will say forget it. Irving will get Wal-Mart to peddle the next Journey album for $7.99 and that will be it.

Perry has to be on board for any DVD release. Neal doesn't want anything promoting old Journey when he is selling the 'New King'. We already have Time3 with all the pre TBF stuff and Essential Journey was just re-released last year with an added disc. I just don't see a monster box package happening anytime soon.

This is where I fall off in terms of knowledge to you....Classic Journey is Azoff's property as well as modern day Journey, or does HH still maintain some ownership of the classic years? If you are saying Irv has total control, then yeah, forget this idea, as he will want to bend Sony over and not give them the courtesy of a reach around. I was thinking perhaps Perry, Schon, Cain, Smith, Valory and maybe Herbert still owned a timepiece of Journey from the years they were all together. I just don't know.

No, I didn't. Really great interview. More like a great conversation about Springsteen's career instead of the usual canned questions. That is because Jimmy is a huge fan of Springsteen, so asks things that music lovers would be interested in.
Don wrote:AC-DC kept Sony as their label even with their Wal-Mart exclusive where as Journey let everyone know that wanted to give Sony a giant middle finger by re-recording under their own label and going straight to Wally World.
Definitely not a relationship with a lot of love loss.
