If player number 2 wins his final 2 games(I know who he is here S2M), then he would get my vote. NO WAY do I think number 3 deserves it, but he'll most likely win it.

The voters need to come to an agreement on exactly what determines a Cy Young Season. Every year they choose different criteria as the basis for their winner.....MOST years it is strictly a Wins, and Innings Pitched criteria, where Wins isn't even a pitching stat - its a TEAM stat. Some years they they use a combination of TEAM stats and PITCHING stats....When they should ONLY be concerned with PITCHING stats: WHIP, ERA, Ks, BAA, K/9IP....

Felix Hernandez deserves it this year. John Lester should also get consideration, especially if he wins his 20th in his next start. Clay Buchholz would also be getting SOME consideration if he hadn't missed several starts.

I would never vote for Hernandez. I saw him pitch against the Indians this year and the guy was bush league - dogging plays, being a general arrogant cocksucker etc. I don't care how good he is, he's undeserving of such a heralded honor.

Easy leads in two triple crown categories. , aint his fault if the Mariners cant get anyone past home plate.

oh, so THIS year you think the pitching stats matter? Whereas in my example a few posts up - Player C won the CY solely based on WINS, and INNINGS PITCHED....

BTW:

Player A : Pedro Martinez - led the league in 13 stats
Player B: Derek Lowe
PLayer C: Barry Zito: led the league in WINS AND IP...that's it....but he won the CY in 2002.

Player 1

Hernandez has had a helleva yaer, but I don't see a Cy Young winner having a .500 record.

Felix Hernandez has no chance of winning the award, but he would get my vote. When you lead the league in e.r.a., strikeouts, WHIP and innings pitched ... you're the league's best pitcher (assuming he holds his lead in those categories). Period. Those stats display durability, reliability and dominance. His won/loss record indicates a lineup that can't score.

I have no desire to look up past Cy Young voting, let alone the stats. If you're referring to Pedro getting the shaft, I get your point. I also agree with you on that issue.

Love it! The guy was burdened with the biggest offensive handicap in the league and still pitched his ass off.

How long til S2M comes rolling in here bitching about Felix winning the award? Dan you are right. He was the best pitcher in BOTH leagues, and deserves this. Also remember, he didn't get a chance to pitch against Seattle or his numbers would have been even more dominant.

This is a pitching award, based on stuff and stats YOU can control as a PITCHER. It wasn't Felix's fault the M's couldn't score. Look at Fatbathia's numbers and his run support...it's probably three times what Hernandez's was.

Text him. He's probably down by the refinery, watching a wetback soccer match.

P.S. Tell him to stop wearing that ICE jacket before he gets his ass kicked.

Really don't care who won(wins) these awards....After Pedro got shafted in '02 I lost all caring for this lame event. Same with Gold Gloves, MVP, and the All-Star game....nothing but popularity contests.

But it is nice to see how the criteria for picking the CY changes every year....pretty soon we'll be picking names out of a baseball cap....

Wins mattered in '02. Fuck all the other stats. But in '10, the other stats reign supreme - and fuck the wins? I just don't get it.

Maybe Pedro got robbed because he is a major league asshole and the media didn't like him. I could definitely see the media shunning that little fucker for that reason alone.

 ... one bad year and S2M takes his ball and goes home. It's this type of behavior that saps your credibility when we talk other sports. When things don't go your way it's either the refs, the system or Neal's fault. They voted and that's the way the system is. Is it always perfect? No. But they seem to get it right most of the time. Like, say, this year. :)

Actually, no. I had horse in this race, Danilow. Until there is a an objective consistent criteria for picking these things I will kindly scoff at the farce that is awards....is it WINS, or pitching stats? It changes every year....all I'm saying.

I don't give a fuck what he threw! He was dominating. His prime numbers are better than anyone's. Add to that 4 Cy Youngs, 18 Gold Gloves, 9 seasons with at least 18 wins, 18 seasons with at least 200 innings pitched, 109 complete games and 355 wins. Go to sleep now, son.
