The Walking Dead on AMC...

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Nov 23, 2010 2:49 pm

Does anyone else here watch this show? My wife and I started watching it yesterday, and we're now caught up on the 1st 4 episodes. DAMN this is a freakishly good show! I will say though... It's very graphic, and NOT a family show. For those of you that like scary movies, this is a show for you! It will keep you at the edge of your seat, and I haven't been this interested in a show since 24. Any thoughts on the show in here?

Well, I am not a zombie lover, but my husband is. I normally avoid shows like this, and he's on his own  BUT, I was folding laundry in front of the tv for the pilot (exciting I know ) and I actually liked it! I won't watch zombie movies, but I thought this show was pretty well done. He's really happy with it, as a zombie lover

First two were awesome. Truly movie quality stuff. Eps 3 and 4 have been weak. Only two left to go. I'm hoping it ends as strongly as it began. One of the few TV shows I set aside time to watch.

Love this show! And I agree with TNC that the past two episodes have been week.
But this really is a killer platform to make a series of, something really never explored.
How many cop and hospital shows do we really need, right?

The reason it has "movie quality" to it is because Frank Darabont,
director of such GREAT films like Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile,
has his hands in this project as a writer and director.

Sucks that this first season will end so quickly.
However, it looks like AMC picked it up for a
second, 13-episode season so this could really
get interesting :)

Just think... They STILL haven't touched on what the hell
caused all of this in the first place. There are so many
directions this show can go.

That exactly what I thought about "Lost " , but they fucked thar one up , as I'm sure they will with this one too! When they create a show with so many directions to take it to , thats when the writers get too confused and instead of answering questions, they create more questions instead . ;)

I agree with what you say about LOST, (did you ever watch the finale?) But I think the problem there was that JJ Abrams handed it over and wasn't as involved, so he could direct some big movies. Hopefully that won't happen here. The difference with this show is they have to stay somewhat true to the zombie fan. LOST had more mystery around it. They already haven't followed every zombie rule, so I'm told  But that doesn't seem to matter since it's written so well. If they stay true to the zombie fan, it will do fine. I actually like it, and had no intentions of ever watching it  Though when they ate a horse and his entrails, it was kinda yucky!!

They tried to stay true to the sci-fi fans with Lost but still fucked it up. My point is when you create more and more options and keep creating more questions , you will eventually kill the show. I hope Im wrong , but I dont think they will manage to finish this as well as they should.

Right, I understand what your saying! And it IS possible! Many shows end up effed up in the end, but I guess what I was saying is there is only so much mystery surrounding this show. With all the zombie books, survival guides, movies and rules, there are only so many different directions it can go. Zombies are HUGE right now. I don't agree with Carl that it has that many directions. They have guidelines they have to follow. Or yes, it will ruin it. LOST sucked at staying true to it's sci-fi fans, though they all did have websites saying why the show did. They made so many mistakes with the "rules" of time travel, it was ridiculous. It has too much flashing back, flashing forward, flashing sideways... it was just too confusing. This show isn't as confusing to me. I can see how it could get boring, but I don't think it will go all different directions and confuse people that much.

I understand your fears, B. I have them too. What I meant by them having so many directions to go is that they can spin this many different ways;
i.e. Govt Conspiracy, Natural Phenomenon, Aliens, Terrorists... All kinds of storylines can play out.

Like you, I just hope they don't make it too confusing and try to do too much all at once.

the tv series is based on an existing graphic novel. I haven't seen the graphic novel, but I've heard that they're sticking really close to the plot, so we probably don't have to worry about the series veering too far off track. 1st ep was a general set-up of what was to come; 2nd was heart-pounding zombie action; 3rd & 4th were more about character development, emotions & relationships. I like the combo of all that so far.

The most recent ep was written by the author of the comic, Robert Kirkman. Personally, I thought the latin gang business played out like a really bad joke. The first two episodes were somethin special tho.

My old lady is watching this. I 'll check it out when I'm done rewatching American Gothic on Hulu. I'm always a few years behind on television series by the time I decide to watch something completely.

Agreed! Very intense. It make you wonder how many characters will be rotated in and out of the series?

The cool thing about the show, it's a ggod story that has zombies. Not just a good zombie story. My wife, who hates horror/scary stuff is hooked as well. Sucks we have to wait until next Halloween for season two...

yeah, it's pretty good, definitely gory for TV.
I think the first one was great and the ones after have been a bit predictable, but it's new, so...

I like it much better than The Event which I lost interest in by the 4th show.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I totally agree, and I generally won't touch those types of shows anymore because I feel endlessly jerked around. I could smell that a mile away just from the previews for "The Event".

I wouldn't mind watching this anyway if it gets to the point, but it would have to be great. There's way too much retread in zombie flicks to keep me interested anymore. I did like both 28 Days films as well as The Crazies though.

It gets to the point, and it's old school zombies, not the steroid, super hero strength/speed zombies.

No CGI, just old school effects to work great.

Zombie mayhem, underlying plot line, so far the zombies are still ahead! I root for the zombies! They just want to be loved? Don't we all? All they ask for is a little brain..........arm.........leg.............spleen,.............now is that too much to ask? Snicker..........not a reality show for sure. Gotta love impossible situations! We watch faithfully every week!

Will the white supremacist be reunited with his hand? Will he become a zombie? Will his ordeal make him ready to sing love and harmony with all the other living folks of different diverse backgrounds? Tune in next week to see if he becomes an snack or gains a new nickname of Stubby.
