OH HELL YES!!!!!!! Judge Dredd returns!

Postby Rip Rokken » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:59 am

Sometimes I get so excited I erupt in spontaneous, loud, involuntary profanity -- kinda like Tourette Syndrome except much more violent. This is one of those times...

Karl Urban in his first shot as one of my favorite comic characters of all time. Been waiting for this for a long, long time, and I think the filmmakers are finally going to get it right.

Didn't know they were making a new one, but the Sly version is definitely a favorite guilty pleasure of mine.

Karl's showing up in more and more places...had no idea he was a New Zealander

This was a classic interview on Jimmy Kimmel with Bruce Willis during the Red press tour....pretty funny Malkovich impersonation.

You just barely found out about this, Rip? Did you get lost in-between your Faster Pussycat records (and I mean vinyl)?

Yeah, this is the movie 2000 AD wants, to "right" the Sly version:

– It will be Rated R, the way it should be

– There will be no romantic interest, because Dredd's sole passion is THE LAW

And most importantly...

– He will NOT REMOVE HIS FUCKING HELMET!!!!!!!!!

Dredd has never removed his helmet. He does not remove his helmet. He has never been seen without his helmet. That was the biggest fuck-up of the Stallone film.

Same here, and although I was disappointed in the final product, I still love it. It was just a real missed opportunity because they strayed from the spirit which made the comics and the character so successful. But Stallone was the absolute perfect pick for the part, did an oustanding job as Dredd (straight down to the face) and it wasn't his fault the film flopped. Hell, I'd support him again in the role today.

No, no my friend! You are right on all accounts about the new movie. I think I discovered 2000AD Magazine in a comics store when I was 18, and started collecting the comics. Fell in love with the character immediately, and the dark satire was right up my alley. When I read that Garth Ennis run on The Punisher called "Welcome Back, Frank" (the story the Tom Jane movie was based on), I felt immediately they were copping the Dredd style -- loved that of course. Back to Dredd, man, there is this one funny as hell story where some habitual criminal gets "rehabilitated" and released back into society. Dredd of course stalks the guy, waiting for him to screw up. One great scene where he puts his arm around the guy and suggests that he volunteer for the "brain job" (lobotomization), LOL. Of course, the guy finally snaps and goes on a crime spree, and Dredd conks him on the head and tosses him back in the slammer, where he gets lobotomized.

Another thing I loved was "Bob's Law"... I forget what all they were, but one of them was something like, "Gather enough people in one place, and it's only a matter of time before someone does something stupid." It's funny because it's true. :)

Anyway, when I first heard they were making the Stallone Dredd film, I was all over it man, hanging on ever scrap of news. When the trailer was released, it was the first I'd ever watched on the Internet, and I downloaded it from Compuserve over a 9600bps modem and watched it again and again. I don't know what it is about Stallone bro, but I'm still doing that many of his films today, and it's the same type of anticipation I get over a new Dokken album, lol! Man, that first Dredd trailer ROCKED!!!

Soon before the film was released, Sly did a chat on Compuserve, and I got to ask him the first question. I was a tricky bastard, and it was a moderated conference, so when he came in, they froze the ability of people to chat to keep it orderly (excellent idea). I composed my question ahead of time in Notepad and copied it into the clipboard, so as soon as they opened up for submitted questions, I just hit the enter key and got to be first.

Oh, there was another really cool thing. Before they opened it up, some of the people waiting were chatting in IMs, and I was talking to this guy for a while. I asked him if he'd been on Compuserve long, and he told me he was actually a friend of Sly's. Guy's name was Max, and when I asked him about his profession, he told me he was a character actor. It totally didn't hit me until later that I'd been chatting with Max Von Sydow, and he was super nice, and so low key about it. Emperor Ming himself!!! :) Dammit!!!

Yeah, when the film came out I was there on opening day of course, and yes, I was ultimately disappointed. But man, they got so much good stuff in though -- the outstanding costumes, the Lawmaster bikes, the Cursed Earth (and the "long walk"), and of course -- MEAN MACHINE ANGEL!!! That was kick ass!!! But the studio trashed the opportunity by straying from the spirit of the comics, and it just kinda flopped. A real wasted opportunity.

Just a few years or so later Shoreline Entertainment announced they'd bought the film rights to Dredd and were putting out 2 films, at least one featuring Judge Death. Again, I hung on every bit of news and was disappointed when it seemed to fizzle out. When this new project was announced, I was all over it, and have been keeping up ever since. I knew about Karl Urban the day it was announced, but just saw this photo yesterday.

I think they are going to make the film they should have in the first place. The costume in that pic looks cool, but looking back at Stallone's, it appeared to be much more like the comics -- the gold metal eagle shoulder armor and all, the chain connected to the badge, etc. I'm going to reserve judgment on the new costume until I see more, but my first impression is they are going for something more realistic. Either way, I'm seriously looking forward to this. I'm just hoping that done correctly, it will register with audiences -- that kinda worries me. "Punisher: War Zone" was right on, and it flopped with audiences. I'm just not sure people will "get it", but I guess we'll see. :)

If anyone's interested, I found that conference text and pasted it below, cause it's really a cool retro interview. Love where he answers my question about a possible sequel with Judge Death.

(3-58,Michael - Host) Good evening and welcome to Entertainment Drive's live interview with Sylvester Stallone! I'm Michael Bolanos, the President of
(3-58,Michael - Host) Entertainment Drive, and it's a great honor and pleasure to present the greatest action hero on the planet.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Tonight's conference is formal. If you have a question for Sylvester Stallone, please click on Ask Question and type your question in.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Beginning Friday, the international superstar brings to life "Judge Dredd," the personification of relentless justice. You can get
(3-58,Michael - Host) an advance look at this futuristic action/adventure flick from Hollywood Pictures by downloading "Judge Dredd" multimedia clips from
(3-58,Michael - Host) EDRIVE's "Now Playing" area (GO EMEDIA and GO EMOVIES). Watch these QuickTime movie scenes on your Windows computer using the new GO
(3-58,Michael - Host) EDRIVE Movie Viewer 2.1...GO VIEWER for more information.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Tomorrow night, there will be special sneak previews of "Judge Dredd" at midnight! Check your local newspaper for theatres showing
(3-58,Michael - Host) the film. LA moviegoers attending the screening at the GCC Galaxy Theatre in Hollywood will be greeted by stars of the film (including
(3-58,Michael - Host) Diane Lane and Rob Schneider) and a spectacular pre-screening motorcycle and pyrotechnic stunt show. The bleachers in front of the
(3-58,Michael - Host) theatre will be open to the public beginning at 9:30pm and everyone who shows up will receive a free prize.
(3-58,Michael - Host) One of the largest-scale movies ever filmed, "Judge Dredd" was 12 months in pre-production. Shooting took place entirely on location
(3-58,Michael - Host) in Iceland and at England's Shepperton Studios.
(3-58,Michael - Host) SYLVESTER STALLONE (Judge Joseph Dredd) has achieved international superstar status, becoming one of the biggest names in motion
(3-58,Michael - Host) pictures since playing the title role in his own screenplay of "Rocky," in 1976. The film won the Oscar for Best Picture.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Born in New York City, Stallone attended school in suburban Philadelphia, where he became a star football player and also began acting
(3-58,Michael - Host) and writing, churning out screenplays while waiting for his big break. That opportunity came in 1974 with "The Lords of Flatbush."
(3-58,Michael - Host) Cast as one of the leads, along with other then-unknowns Henry Winkler and Susan Blakely.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Inspired by the Muhammad Ali/Chuck Wepner fight in which the second-rate contender went the distance with the champ, prize fighter
(3-58,Michael - Host) Rocky Balboa came to life in a script Stallone wrote in longhand. Several producers offered to buy the screenplay, with the aim of
(3-58,Michael - Host) casting a name star in the title role. Stallone insisted on reserving the part for himself, despite a bank balance of barely $100, and
(3-58,Michael - Host) his perseverance paid off with superstardom.
(3-58,Michael - Host) In addition to the film's Best Picture Oscar, Stallone himself received two Oscar nominations for "Rocky"-- Best Actor and Best
(3-58,Michael - Host) Screenplay. Only Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles had ever been so honored by the Motion Picture Academy.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Stallone wrote and starred in four popular sequels to that film, directing the first three himself. He also had success with another
(3-58,Michael - Host) tough-guy hero with "First Blood" and its sequels, "Rambo: First Blood Part I1" and "Rambo III." Stallone risked life and limb in
(3-58,Michael - Host) the Oscar-nominated suspense thriller "Cliffhanger," which he also co-wrote and which was one of 1993's top grossing films worldwide.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Most recently, he starred in the futuristic action picture "Demolition Man," and the contemporary erotic thriller "The Specialist."
(3-58,Michael - Host) This spring, Stallone began production on "Assassins," an action thriller directed by Richard Donner for Silver Pictures in
(3-58,Michael - Host) association with Donner/Shuler Productions and Warner Bros.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Away from the motion picture cameras, Stallone is one of the principal partners in Planet Hollywood, a succession of spectacular
(3-58,Michael - Host) restaurant and entertainment complexes with a movie theme, which are opening in the United States and all over the world.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Good evening Sly!
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Good evening everyone
(3-58,Michael - Host) Good evening Sly!
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) it's really a pleasure to be here for the first time
(3-58,Michael - Host) This is the first time you've been online?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) exactly
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) first time
(3-58,Michael - Host) Last night, Arthur Hiller, current President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was our guest in connection with
(3-58,Michael - Host) our strong support of the Artists Rights Foundation. Sly, Arthur Hiller asked us to ask you... Was your performance in his "The Out-Of
(3-58,Michael - Host) -Towners" your first film performance, as he's been told?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It was actually, yes, the first legitimate one where I actually was paid
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I made $500 for 2 days work and I thought I had all the money in the world
(3-58,Michael - Host) Folks, let's get right to your questions for Sly!

% Question from LITTLE ROCK, AR: [73123,243]
The Future Rip Rokken
Hey, Sly! Waited 10 years for JD to be made, and you are a great choice! Part of what makes Dredd so humorous is the language: Pervo, Juvie, Creep... do you use the Dredd slang in the movie? Any plans for a sequel with Judge Death? Thanks!

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Yes, we use as much of the language as possible
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I wish we used more
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) we used Juvies, Creeps as much as possible, insetead of using :simulators
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) we used sims'
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and I'm hoping, if the film does well,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) there will be a sequel, Judge Dredd vs Judge Death
(3-58,Michael - Host) Please tell us more about the movie.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) JD is a unique character, because he's human
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) He doesn't have any super abilities
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) except to uphold the law
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) He's never been married,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) never had a girlfriend
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) never even been kissed
(3-58,Michael - Host) <g>
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) He lives just to maintain the law and be a man who is so feared in Mega-City One
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) he's become a legend because no one can corrupt JD

% Question from BIRMINGHAM, AL: [76412,1450] Steven Cornelius
Did you read the Judge Dredd books to learn sort of the persona of Judge Dredd. or just create your own for the movie?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) No, I studied every word written on JD, and I realized that the character in the comic wou,ld have to go through a little bit of a metamorphosis
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) for the screen. By that, I mean he would have to take his helmet off which he's never done in 25 years, and he'd have to interact
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) with other characters, which he's never done.

% Question from CHICAGO, IL: [102005,420] Todd Zedak
What kind of computer graphics equipment was used in the new flick?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) We used the most advanced grap[hics to date, which was
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) one generation beyond what they used in Jurassic Park.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It's the first time during the motorcycle race, in JD, where the graphic camera can actually do a 360 degree turn
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) around the subject, showing it's amazing dimensions from all sides
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) also, they took a computer graphic readout on my face
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) so my identical likeness is duplicated like never before.
(3-58,Michael - Host) It was amazing! How long did it take to perfect that technique?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That took....five minutes on screen took almost a month of work
(3-58,Michael - Host) That's the up and down side of technology!
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) When I did Rocky I, the whole movie cost $900,000
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and this 5-min scene, on the motorcycle chase, cost $6 million
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) to give you an idea how expensive
(3-58,Michael - Host) Wow.

% Question from BOUNDBROOK, NJ: [102172,656] Daniel C. Ulrich
Would you ever consider making another ROCKY film, I loved all of them?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Well, I think Rocky, if I made another one, I don't believe anyone would see him boxing again
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It would be a big stretch of the imagination,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) so I think I have to retire Rocky
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but there's always a possibility
(3-58,Michael - Host) Sly just said he'd consider another Rambo...Now that sounds like news! What's the story about Rambo being a god in New Guinea. Is th
(3-58,Michael - Host) at true?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) There's a tribe, a very primitive tribe, that somehow got a hold of a cassette and an old TV monitor with no sound
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and they saw the image of Rambo, and they took it to be reality
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) They walk around, on the side of their house, calling "Rambo God,"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I'm afraid to go over there, because I'm afraid I might disappoint them
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and end up in a put
(3-58,Michael - Host) I think that's a pot <g> This is something that most mortals don't have happen. You've had such an incredible career, how have you
(3-58,Michael - Host) done it?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Pot, sorry <g>
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I try to put my ego on the side and realize that it's the image of this primitive character that people embrace, not Sylvester Stallone,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but what the character represents, so that way I can separate the two
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and I realize that characters like Rocky and Rambo really are a composite of many different kinds of people that I put together in one body
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) We have decided to do a Rocky 20-year anniversary laser disc
(3-58,Michael - Host) It's amazing how long it's been since Rocky!
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) This summer, I'm going to narrate all five Rocky-s
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and give insight into what was going on, how the movie was made,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) the miracle of the Rocky longevity, and I'm going to--I think--Rocky may be, eventually, turned into a Broadway musical
(3-58,Michael - Host) A broadway musical?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I'm hoping to get Elton John to write it
(3-58,Michael - Host) Wow!
(3-58,Michael - Host) Have you been on Broadway?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I wouldn't be in it; I would just write it
(3-58,Michael - Host) How far off Broadway were you?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) off-off-off .... off-New Jersey

Hi Mr.Stallone, What was your favorite role?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Paradise Alley,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Fist, and Nighthawks

% Question from CINCINNATI, OH: [76022,2723] Tim Steffen
Where did the story for "Paradise Alley" come from?
And who was the actor who played Big Glory?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) The actor was Frank McRae
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I worked with him in FIST and I remembered him when I wrote PA
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I wrote PA before I wrote Rocky
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I took it to the producers, but at the time
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I was so broke, that I had sold the rights
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) to a couple of attorneys for $200
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and the producers said "we would like to make PA, but we don't want to be partners with these attorneys"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) so PA was left in limbo, and that's when I went home and wrote Rocky in three days
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) because the opportunity was there, and I needed to do something

% Question from GARDEN CITY, NY: [76347,1566] Jordan Meisel
Sly I enjoyed the use of technology in Demolition Man , will JUDGE DREDD outdo that movie. Also NIGHTHAWKS was an underrated movie, any chance of a sequal at this stage in the game??

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) What happened is, I wanted to do a sequel to NIGHTHAWKS
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but the studio thought it wouldn't be worth it, nobody would want to see it
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) because, they said, 'we really don't have any urban terrorism in America, it's far-fetched
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and here we are, ten years later, with the Oklahoma bombing....Nighthawks was a bit ahead of it's time

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It's nice to be remembered for something so recent; usually it's films of the past
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It's very encouraging!
(3-58,Michael - Host) Tell us about Cliffhanger, what was the most memorable part of making the film?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) The most memorable part was...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) the first day I was there, I was so afraid of heights, we were 12,000 feet up
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and I literally got on my hands and knees,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) crawled to the edge and looked down, thought "I'll never be able to do this"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) But within a month, something happened...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I used a form of self-hypnosis, and said "if I'm going to play this character, then I have to try to forget who I am"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) What I would do is, every morning, kind of put myself in this semi-hypnotic state, trying to convince myself

Hi! I'm interested to know, do you feel the action and the sense of adventure while making a movie, or is all that taken away by the process of acting?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) A lot of that depends on the location.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) If you're in the mountains, just getting there everuy day by helicopter
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and cable cars and getting caught in these horrible blizzards, makes it an adventure
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) If people had seen the making of "Cliffhanger," the special we did, they would see that behind the scenes

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Like Rambo II and III,
(3-58,Michael - Host) That opening sequence was just incredible.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) when we were in the desert and the jungles,

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) even if I was threatened at gunpoint <g>
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and the action movies, I think, provide such a necessary part of world entertainment
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I know sometimes people say "don't you get bored, Sylvester, doing just action films?"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I say "no" if that action film provides two elements...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) 1) escapism, and the other is, at the very end of the movie,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) there is a subtle message
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) like, I don't like just action films where things explode and it's literally a symphony of noise
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) it must have a story that people can identify with
(3-58,Michael - Host) I'd like to ask about that. What makes a great action film? Other than your films, what are your favorites?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I thought the original DIE HARD was a great action film
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) A lot of the earlier films, like Spartacus, the Vikings....
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Noble, large films
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) In modern times, there's not a great deal of quality in action films
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I find karate films not really action films, those are really fight films
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Even the Bible, our great books, dealing with religion, history, it was always good vs. bad
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and in the end, the human spirit triumphed over all odds
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and if you can put that in an adventure film, like they did with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing the Stone, great films, these
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) kind of moral messages hit home

% Question from LAWRENCE, KS: [76600,2560] John A. Haverty
How do you feel about what Senator Robert Dole had to say about Hollywood and the movies it puts out? Do you see a need for restrictions on movies that are put out by Hollywood? If so, what kind of restrictions?
Thank you.

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) <sigh> I feel strongly that politicians, by and large, have neglected the safety and welfare of the citizens of this country.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) They have allowed crime to multiply to this terrible point, which it's at now.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It's more dangerous walking to your car after seeing the movie than it is going to the movie.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) So, I say to these critics, that our movies are about the good triumphing over the bad.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) But, in reality, that is not always the case. So, Senator Dole should pay more attention to fighting crime in the street
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) than fighting crime on a fictional movie screen.
(3-58,Michael - Host) What can the average person do?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I think .... the average person is going to eventually vote so strongly in opposition to all these politicians
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) that the country may become super-super-conservative if something isn't being done to protect its citizens... this brings me to a very important point
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) one of the main reasons I did Dredd, was to send a subtle message about what this country may become if we don't begin to show
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) sensitivity and concern for its citizens.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) See, democracy...In Dredd, we have lost all our rights, democracy is dead, there is no more court systems, because the government ha
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) d abused them for so long, that the people rebelled
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and when the people rebelled, they installed the judges, like Dredd

% Question from NEWPORT BEACH, CA: [74127,1525] Paula
Why aren't you more politically vocal?

The results of the issue:
Sly wants to know...

Would you like to see more Rambos?

1: Yes 60.87%
2: No 39.13%

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Because so many actors have used their status poorly, that I would rather remain in the background, and let the real people of
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) American the ones that have to work hard every day to make ends meet, make the decisions

% An issue is up for vote:

Which movie do you remember first seeing Stallone in?
1 The Lords of Flatbush
2 Bananas
3 The Out Of Towners
4 Rocky

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Fantastic! Very good news!
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) (about more Rambos)
(3-58,Michael - Host) Think the positive reaction to doing more Rambo might move things along?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) yes, but I wanted to do something experimental
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I thought if we did Rambo, we should do it for pay=-per-view at home, directly into people's homes, rather than theatrical release.
(3-58,Michael - Host) Wow.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It would be the first time that's ever been done
(3-58,Michael - Host) What's the reaction been?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) The studios are skeptical, because it's never been done ,and I say, that's all the more reason to try it

% Question from EDISON, NJ: [72272,1602] Lorraine A.
Hi Sly! I love your movies. What is your greatest accomplishment, meaning the movie you are most proud of?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I would have to say....<thinking>
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I love the purity of First Blood, because that was
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) an experimental film, and probably Rocky I, of course

% Question from WICHITA, KS: [74247,2655] Michael E. Smith
Sly, how did you change you get in such terrific shape from "Lords of Flatbush" to the last Rocky film?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Well, I realized that I had to ... the body re-builds itself every six months
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Just about every cell in your body dies. So I decided to make a very strict dietary change
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I went from 190 pounds to 160 lbs, and started to add on, ounce by ounce,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) eating 80% protein fish, chicken, veal, egg whites,....
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) very little carbohydrates
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It worked for me.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I know that a lot of people stress more carbos, more veggies, but I tend to go more towards protein
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I recommend people eat about 80% protein Mon-Fri, and then from Fri nite to Sun nite, you can have whatever you want
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) And then, come Sunday night, you start that five days of strict behavior,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but you reward yourself on the weekend by pigging out on everything in the universe
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I am a pancake junkie
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Someday, you'll find me in the street, covered in pancakes in an alley...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) covered in waffles!

% Question from HILLIARD, OH: [70004,3667] Rick
How long do you think you'll be able to continue making action films like these and maintaining the awesome amount of strength you have, along with your body?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That's a good question.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) It's uncharted waters, right now, but I have seen men in body=building contests,
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) 65-68 or 70 years old, they look amazing
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Who knows? <g>

% Question from EXTERNAL NETWORK: [102060,1745] NORMAND J. CARON
Sly, What is the biggest misconception about you?

[72662,2531] (3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Hmm....that I am very similar to the characters I play.

The results of the issue:
Which movie do you remember first seeing Stallone in?

1: The Lords of Flatbush 33.33%
2: Bananas 4.76%
3: The Out Of Towners 0.95%
4: Rocky 60.95%

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That I am primarily physical, when in fact, that is a small portion of what I really am
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I am primarily a writer.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I've always been very involved in the arts, in sculpting, in poetry
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but this is, I guess, the power of films, because they basically form your persona, your image
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I will continue to do these roles as long as they want it

% Question from OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: [75162,1455] Jim Adair
Sly, it's great to talk to you! It seemed when you first started to action movies that you and Arnold poked a lot of fun at each other. Now it seems that you have more respect for one another... Any chance you will do a movie together?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Well, we're going to do the sequel to "When Harry Met Sally"....we're trying to figure out who's going to play Sally <g>
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) But seriously...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) that is a strong possibility...the one fellow I'd love to work with again is Kurt Russell
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) We had a common bond when we were working on Tango and Cash, that was unlike any other relationship I've had on a film
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Most actors, when the film is over, they basically drift very far away from one another
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) But Kurt has maintained a certain closeness, like a brother

% An issue is up for vote:
Now that you've met Stallone live, do you plan to see "Judge Dredd"?
1 Yes, this weekend
2 Yes, Soon
3 Maybe
4 No

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and i think he's a very gifted performer

% Question from DEERFIELD BEACH, FL: [72314,270] MIKE
How did you like working with Sharon Stone, in the Specialist?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That was good...
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) but I was disappointed with the film
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) The film I'm doing now, with Dick Donner and Antonio Bandares and Julianne Moore
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) is what I'd hope Specialist would be very dramatic, and very sophisticated
(3-58,Michael - Host) That film is "Assassins"
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) and highly entertaining
(3-58,Michael - Host) When's it being released?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That will be out in October
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I want to know where the 1% who don't want to see Dredd lives <g>

% Question from SIERRA VISTA, AZ: [73472,1063] Sandra A. Oglesby
Tango and Cash was great entertainment, is there a possiliity of there being a sequel?

% Question from ATLANTA, GA: [102016,704] Thelma
Why Armand Assante for the foe? He's perfect. But did you consider anyone else?

The results of the issue:
Now that you've met Stallone live, do you plan to see "Judge Dredd"?

1: Yes, this weekend 37.86%
2: Yes, Soon 53.40%
3: Maybe 5.83%
4: No 2.91%

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I was discusing the possibilities of a sequel to T&C with Kurt Russell that could happen within the next year and a half, so that's a strong possibility
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) The reason I chose Armand is that I met him almost 23 years ago, when I was doing Lords of Flatbush, and he was an extra.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) Then, about five years later, when I was casting Paradise Alley, I needed someone to play my brother.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) As fate would have it, Armand was walking through the parking lot, and I ran up to him and said "how would you like to star as my brother?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) That started his career.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) 16 years later, I thought, who should play my brother in Dredd?
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) And I thought, who else? Armand
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) In Dredd, we have some of the most memorable moments together, I think the audience has ever seen
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I think he plays an absolute genius in this movie; he's brilliant
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) And if you don't believe me, come see for yourself! <g>

% Question from NEWARK, NJ: [102151,505] Linda
You've made alot of movies about an underdog winning his battles - do you really believe in that kindof hope or success?

(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) I believe that, without...everybody has dragons to slay in their life.
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) You have to believe you can slay these dragons; otherwise, life to me, is a very painful experience
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) So the underdog, a real underdog, which all of us really are, in life, must NEVER give up hope
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) because it's that constant challenge, that ability to get up when you've been knocked down, that makes life
(3-166,Sylvester Stallone) the exciting adventure it's supposed to be.

Me and my bro have a pretty funny inside joke. Our rule is that we will NEVER watch Judge Dredd--ever-- but will always talk it up and work its way into a movie conversation of one of the best movies we've ever seen, lmao. I don't know why either. 8)

It's not a remake of the movie... it's a retake of the comic. :)

You haven't seen Judge Dredd? Not even to see the hottest woman in the world, Diane Lane?!?! Here's my suggestion... don't see it until you've read several of the comics. Stallone read tons of them and I think that's why his performance (in helmet anyway) was so great, straight down to the facial expressions. But the film as a whole is just not a good first impression.
