Do You Shop On Black Friday?

Postby Voyager » Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:44 pm

Damn... all three females in my home (wife and two daughters) are getting up at 3:00am to go do the Black Friday thing. WTF??? I mean, if they can save some money - great. I guess it's better than paying full price later. Either way, Black Friday puts me in the red.

Not unless the local strip club is running a "buy one lap dance get one free" promotion.

I considered it briefly but, I thought about it this way....even if I got the items I wanted on sale, I'd save about $150-I'd have to wait for hours out in the cold. If I were faced with the decision to stay out in the cold all night long or pay $150 for a warm cozy bed in a comfy hotel room-I'd pay the $150 so I just don't see why I'd stay up all night in the cold on purpose! I'm going to stay in my warm bed until the sun comes up tomorrow then I'm going to put my tree up while listening to Christmas music and sipping cocoa!!

I do Black Friday every year. I refuse to do the 3am cattle calls for the doorbusters, but I usually go out about 7am and stock up on whatever I want. Lots of great deals that go on until at 10am-12pm. Best Buy is selling every season of Smallville for $9.99 tomorrow -- that's a hell of a lot cheaper than $43-$44 per season. The 40" plasma TV in our bedroom came from Black Friday 2 years ago, and it was a steal.

Best advice for Black Friday -- learn the sales ahead of time and map out a gameplan, then knock them out as quickly as possible. A good way to avoid long lines at the cashier is to get staff in other departments to check you out. I'm surprised more people don't think about that.

More of a Cyber Monday shopper ... esp. with almost every place having free shipping promotions this year ...

Just got in a couple hours ago. A line a football and a half to get into to Target, skipped them. Got to Walmart picked up a new TV at 5 am. Didn't get the one i wanted, they were gone in a matter of minutes, people putting 2 to 4 in there buggy. Come on!!!! Look out Ebay.
Ended up getting a Samsung. watched a movie already. It's my wife and I gift to each other. Our TV went out 3 weeks ago. Waited till today to get a deal.

Last year I went to Walmart at 3:30am to get a few things at 5am when the sale started. This was my first black Friday experience. I swore after that day I would NEVER do that again. I guess the shock wore off over the past year because I went out again this year. Although it was much nicer with Walmart starting all items but electronics at 12am. With not having all the electronic lines around it made the store less congested and easier to move around. Target is across the street from Walmart so when I left Walmart at 2:30 I drove by Target just to see how long the line was. I was amazed the number of people who were lined up outside when it was 34 degrees!

You would never catch me out with the masses, particularly in the middle of the night. People slept outside Best Buy here and it was 6 degrees in Minneapolis. I bought a new computer and got all my Xmas shopping done online including a portable GPS (Garmin, almost 50% off), gift cards, personalized luggage, clothing, arts for the walls, all with no shipping charges. It would be great to score some real steals, but not at the expense of my sanity.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I've never done the Black Friday shopping thing, only heard others' horror stories, lol. I did go to just Target this past Friday, but not until about noon, and it was a bit crazier than normal, lol, but not too bad I guess. The bad thing was all the parking lot traffic (you know, those people who will BLOCK other traffic just to get a close spot because heaven forbid they walk their lazy asses across a parking lot   ) and airhead pedestrians who think it's perfectly fine to walk right in front of a moving 3000 lb vehicle while texting and not looking where they are going.

I just looked at a couple of sites and didn't see anything great. The only thing I did buy was a book for my son because Barnes and Noble sent me a 25% off coupon.
