SFTD is NOT grunge! I HATE grunge, and I love most of that album. And Marcello, great as he is, I don't think is better than Norum. Norum is an amazing guitarist and HIS solo stuff is awesome too!

The guitars are weak, tuned down, and his tone is VERY grunge sounding....   :?

The guitar is NOT weak, or tuned down. The GUITAR is what attracts me TO that album! And grunge?? I do NOT like grundge! This album is MELODIC, it is not grundge! If it was grundge, I probably would have been able to get my son into it, and I couldn't! Sorry, you are checked off my list now... NEXT!

VH opened for Journey in what, 1978? Mopped the floor? Are you fucking insane? VH had just released their first album and was just starting to get known. Hell Montrose was on the bill too.

I saw VH August 5, 1978 along with Missouri, Head East, Wet Willie, Black Oak Arkansas, Rick Derringer, Alvin Lee, UK and others I forget. I was blown away (more ways than one). VH stole the show (for obvious reasons) with Head East being a strong second.

However, that was no where near how I was blown away seeing Journey for the first time July 8, 1980. Maybe because it was the first time seeing them, but it still goes down as my all time favorite concert...ever.

Not an apples to apples or head to head comparison, I know.

I'd like the Rose Bowl, July 2, 1982 line up. Blue Oyster Cult/Aldo Nova/Triumph/Journey.

I know this has been discussed before, but looking back at past tour schedules, it blows me away how many nights they played with very few breaks. Unbelievable.

I do NOT think that the GGD's are near as good as most of my favorite melodic rock bands. I KNOW they aren't. But I STILL love them, and I still love Johnny, and their music gives me a good feeling. That is not the same as recognizing awesomely talented musicians, which apparently I am good at, and you are not :P  I DO know the difference :P

I saw that lineup later on in the tour, 8/12/82, but sadly without Journey or Triumph.....Aldo had a REALLY short set, 5 songs....He kicked ass, though...

GGD are a great studio band. They are not good live anymore though. Rzenik sucks live vocally. I saw 'em once in 07 and once this past summer - both very uninspired.

Oh!! I would LOVE that!!!! We're seeing the GGD's this sunday! They do venues alone now, smaller ones like the house of blues, and pick little unknown groups to play with them AS WELL as playing bigger venues, with well known current bands too. They really fit in with a lot of the younger bands which is so strange! Somehow they found thier nitch that is not stuck with all the other classic rock bands! I guess because their sound is a little different. They started off more punk I think. I love them!

So my question to you is this. Would you pay 30 bucks to see Steve Augeri live? Knowing what you know?

Yes. It would be very difficult for him to sound worse than the last time I saw him (Raleigh 2006). Be nice to hear something from Arrival/Generations done by the original singer or maybe a Tall Stories song.

Hell, I remember paying $12.50 to see Perry led Journey at the Rose Bowl in 82. That included the fee charge of 2.50. How times have changed.

Um...No! What happened is not why, however. I'm not a person who carries a grudge but I would at least like the singer to be able to sing and I'm not convinced SA can bring it anymore.

I am quite rehearsed in this, thank you. I SAW that tour dude. Yes VH was on it's maiden tour, and they DID clean Journey's clock. Hell, didn't you read Herbie's interview with Schon when they both came out to watch Eddie and Schon was blown away. Sorry, but VH's first album was muich better than Infinity...rocked harder, had better sound and more hooks too. That wasn't even close...I went there as a big Journey fan, but the next day I was listening to VH. So, I don't see your point here. I made a factual statement about VH and Journey touring together. Where is the falsity in that?

I saw the tour as well...at least when I saw them Journey killed...by a wide margin...Montrose was cool too...and EVH was nuts on guitar...but no how no way VH killed Journey.

S2M.... I was telling my son as we ate dinner, of your idea that SFTD is a GRUNDGE album, since I know he has an affinity for grundge.... without telling him anything else, or my opinion, or how I felt about what you said... my almost 17 year old's exact words were:
