Interesting to learn that Perry has the letter informing he's out of the band pinned to his studio wall.

Too bad no one sent one to Neal and Jon after 1987. Ross and Smitty already had theirs. That's when the band broke up (1987). But I'm sure he likes fooling himself into believing otherwise and the little piece of paper pinned to the wall is probably enough to talk himself into it. Where's Freud when you need him.

Hey Jana, nevermind this battle. Have you see the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame show? Man, I got the DVD and it may be one of the best concerts ever. You would love it. Anyone who is anyone is on this dvd. U2, Bruce and E Street, Mick, Fergie, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jeff Beck, Metallica, Kinks, Lou Reed, Sam Moore, Sting, Darlene Love, Tom Morello, Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, Jacksone Browne, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Ozzy. You can't beat that lineup.

Lol ... I speak what I believe to be true, man. You've even said it yourself ... he knew he would never probably step foot on stage with them again. You seem to think something happened. So why the theatrics surrounding TBF? Why not just let them continue on? Better yet, why not call Azoff in 1998 and say that he has an October date for hip surgery and he'll be ready the following Spring? Because he already had his "out." This way he's the perceived victim. The plan was genius. If they wait, he just continues to keep them in the barn and if they (rightfully) move on without him, he's the victim. Well played. Still doesn't mean he's not a douche.

They were ready to move forward without him, so I'm not sure how you can even say this. And I can guarantee the material with Chalfant and Rolie would have been better than the boring shit fest they released.

Dan, they're still clinging to his coattails. Why the hell do you think the world still wants to hear from HIM about the music made by JOURNEY (a still functional rock band) these many years later. You can't have it both ways, dude. Either it's about him, or it isn't. History is proving that it is... To put it another way - people don't care to hear about/from HH or Ross, Neal or Jon when talking about DSB or any of the other classic songs. They want to hear from Steve Perry. Why? Steve Perry is Journey and Journey is Steve Perry. They are synonymous. I know that's a hard pill to swallow, and it sounds like something a 'typical loon' would say, but the proof is out there.

p.s. Chalfant is creepy.

I think we can say that with the way this has all played out, Perry still holds the band hostage, in a way. Journey is stuck in a time warp, no matter what they release or who is singing for them it all cycles back to 1981 again and SP still gets to play the media like a violin and continue his trek as journey's sixth member. The guy may be a total asshole but if you had him marketing your business instead of being a crucial piece of it (and didn't have any cokeheads snorting up the profits ) you could have a very successful company.

Lead singers, especially from the 80's, are almost always the most recognizable members of the band. This is the rule, not the exception, but you're trying to paint it otherwise. Besides, Steve Perry remains such a sought after figure because never really in the history of music has someone just up and quit on his band mates and fans. Everyone else, people with far worse reasons for acrimony, have made up and toured for their fans. He remains the selfish exception. That, and his reclusive nature, make him a sort of enigma to interview. Personally, I think it makes him a quitter and a creep.

Arnel may have given the band a bit of Reprieve with his rag to riches story but you could only count on that for so long. Perry the hermit has waited for his moment and now, magically has all the time in the world when it comes to the resurgence of DSB and he is easily available to promote said song, it seems. He's quite oppurtunistic, never complementing specific members of the band, always making sure that he still has a string connected to anything coming from the back catalog. Sort of genius, really. Herbie might not have put up with it but Irving is the man now and him and Perry appear to be two peas in a pod when it comes to being manipulative so I don't see Azoff ever throwing the gaunlet down and declaring Perry persona non grata in relation to anything the band does.

Donna, that's a stretch. Those guys are pretty talented. Schon has made his mark too, even Friga. While I agree Perry is the big cog in the wheel, those other guys are spokes at least.

Dude, remember when I traveled all the way from California to Milwaukee(Waukegan) by train(I hate to fly and needed a reason to party two straight days), to see Augeri/Journey, and Chalfant was there? I scared the shit out of him because I am A) loud and B) tall and C) was hammered drunk. He is about 5'3" and looks like Jimmy Page. Ugly to be sure, but real good pipes.

I was at that show with Tito! It snowed like a motherfucker and, if you remember, they were serving cake in the lobby for some sort of anniversary for the venue. Also, they didn't allow you to bring alcohol purchased in the lobby into the seating area. :x  Swear to God on my parents ... when Cain sang Every Generation that night, Tito looked ta me and said "I think he just lip synched that." :? Trial run?

1- I was there. I remember having to pound Budweisers(the beer they sold), in that small lobby...I drink maybe 5 beers in 2 minutes and stumbled in there.

2- Yes, Cain DID lip that song every night of the tour. FACT.

3- It was snowing like a motherfucker. The next day I was at a sports bar watching Favre at Chicago, and the fans there were Bears fans...after the Bears won, they all started singing this dumb ass Bears song. I then got so drunk, that I played darts with this guy and ended up fist butting him so hard, I shattered my hand in three placers. I went to Waukegan General and got 25 vicodins :) . Slept real good that night..Called Joe Pa the next morning higher than a kite. Got home three days later and had surgery a week thereafter. Doc inserted three long pins through my bones to fuse my hand back correctly.

4-For what it's worth, I got off the train at Naperville, Il. You know where that is, Daniel? I liked that town. They had a White Castle next to the Amtrak crib and I mowed 10 sliders before getting on. That poor toilet on the train was taking some late that night, somewhere in Missouri.

Maybe Stephen is going to release a box set? Hell, there is no rule that one has to release 10 songs per disc. At his rate of releasing CD's, he may want to at least make it a double CD, and get his 20 bucks per pop. it is going to sell...he has to realize this. Whatever the dude puts out, will sell. I am also convinced unlike Journey, and this isn't a slam on the band, but if Steve puts out some sort of pop single, it will indeed chart. The iron is hot for this guy. If he charts, the album will feed off the single and just snowball in sales.

Oh Hell, you are only 8 hours away via the 101. You have to come down here. The ass spray is called Liquid Ass. It is lethal stuff. You spray a stream of that stuff on someones pant leg and no one will go near that person for days....I once sprayed it into an open car window and the poor bastard couldn't drive his car for days.

Here is a testimony from a very satisfied user:

I have had Liquid ASS for a week or so now and it smells RANK! I have done a few minor ASSings here and there, but today were my first big ones.

It's the school holidays and I decided to bus to town. But as I was waiting at the bus stop, the neighborhood A–holes started throwing stones at me and my friends (real mature!). They did this for a while and upon not receiving a reaction, they came up and punched my friend (a female) in the face! My friend, who had one of my bottles of ASS at the time, ran after him and emptied a good half a bottle on his head, face, and back. He took off his jacket and looked like he was about to puke. After abuse was hurled and we were laughing our asses off, his mom came out and went to pick up his jacket. He said, "Don't take that! It smells like bum!" (Actually, it smelled like ass!) His mum said to stop being stupid and upon picking up the jacket she said, "Holy shat! It does smell like bum!" We couldn't stop laughing for the entire bus ride.

Upon arriving in town we went to a public toilet (with terrible ventilation) and put a third of a bottle in there! I then locked myself in a cubicle, blocked my nose (which didn't help — I could TASTE it!), and listened to reactions. Someone muttered, "Smells like someone ate Indian food, locked themselves in a cubicle, shat, died, and lay there for several months." Another said "I used to work at a pig farm and this is ten times worse!" I laughed until my sides ached.

Thanks for the brilliant product! I hope to get some video next time!

I just saw a brand new product they are selling called Barfume. Barf in a spray bottle! This is going to be awesome! Deb gets excited to see Mr. Big, and I get excited about trying out Barfume!

That, and his reclusive nature, make him a sort of enigma to interview. Personally, I think it makes him a quitter and a creep.

I understand what you're saying, Dan, and I'm not trying to paint it in any way. It is what it is. But your bitterness about the situation is what's striking. For someone who constantly remarks that "it's about the music" when it comes to all of Journey's past & present indiscretions, you are very quick to push the blame onto SP (are you sure you're not Neal's "love child" - you seem to have the same mentality :P ). I guess you think he's the "Howard Hughes" of the music world, and that's ok. But that's NOT what he's famous for, it's just what you despise him for. He doesn't have to tour for his fans. I don't believe for a minute that Neal's motivation for touring is to do it "for the fans". If it was, he would do whatever he could to effect a reunion, and his mouth - even to this day - is what's keeping that from happening. So if you want to see a reunion (and I KNOW you do!), start talking to "daddy Neal".

They are very talented, Dean. But as Dan said, it is the lead singer that is synonymous with a band. So when people think of Journey, they automatically recall SP's vocals. It's not really a slam on the others, it's just that SP raised the bar so high it's hard for the others not to be in his shadows, IMO. The local station here plays a lot of Journey, but they are almost exclusively announced as "Steve Perry and Journey".

I have always maintained that Journey was the sum total of their parts, but in reality, it's only us, the die-hards, that even really know the other guys' names. JMO. :)

How so? You mean looks? Can't be reputation among fans. He's got a sterling one. I know he's answered my emails in the past.

IDK what it is exactly, TNC, just my impression. I have no knowledge of his rep among fans, because I ain't one. Glad he was gracious to you though. 8)

LMAO! Maybe he's the one that told Kevin Cronin about Journey firing JSS... they were in Sweden at the time, weren't they?
