I can only say this:
I was not alone in "discovering" this. There were a few others who cannot be named, but I guess if I did anything, it was the fact I brought it out into the light. The others didn't desire to do this, so I did. In retrospect, sometimes I wish I hadn't done it. It really weighed heavily on me at the time. Of course I handled it very poorly. I couldn't have handled it any worse than I did. Yeah, I got the result I needed to get, but I made a lot of enemies and hurt a lot of people by the way I spoke to them. heck, a person even passed away during this time, and that really bothered me, and still does at times. I don't know if the stress on Tapegate was a deciding factor, but it may have been.......that was when it was at it's ugliest. Again, I wish I could have done it all over and done it differently. Tell you what, one thing I am proud of is I stuck to my convictions...if this shit were to happen today, trust me you, major periodicals would know about it, loud and clear. I just can't accept this "sin" in music. That's my personal opinion.
As far as reassuring my belief what was going on Trav, it was fairly easy. I had the Vegas DVD on audio and listened to that fucker countless times...I dug it, so I knew it backwards and forwards. I had tons of bootlegs that I traded with members here. The first key moment where my ears perked up was in the song, Ask the Lonely, at the 1:15 mark I believe, there was a certain hiccup in Augeri that I had heard in other boots, mainly Toronto and the greek Theatre shows from LA. When Vegas, Toronto and LA were all played back to back, it became clear what was happening.
Then Jeremey chimed in and offered some technical validation, comparing wave lengths and such..That converted many people to our side but not all. Some held out even after some convincing evidence.
When Svante came in and threw down his story, then it really was a turning point.
What do you mean about Jeremey? Who's "Svante"?
Jeremey, the singer for the tribute band Frontiers, weighed in on the Tapegate issue. It was a shitstorm of arguing and cussing, accusing and denying, and basically a free for all here at your lovely Melodicrock.com. I was making my case daily, by posting the songs which were identical, basically, all of them, as the set list was identical night after night. People for whatever reason couldn't or wouldn't put two and two together- they couldn't hear the similarities...at tleast the smart ones could but the dumb ones(the Augeri supporters), would never admit to it. Anyway, Jeremey came in and posted some graphs he snap shotted from his computer of say Ask the Lonely from the Vegas DVD and the Toronto show. What Jeremey showed in his graph was IDENTICAL voice pitch and so on. You can go back and find these threads you know...Very hardcore reading, but entertaining to be sure. Anyway, after Jeremey's presentation, many more started to finally believe, and the ones who wouldn't admit it, just disappeared(people from Backtalk mainly). Thos epeople came over intending to shut me and others up and ended up getting their collective fat asses kicked the hell out of here.
Svante is a Swedish Cat, who works sound and recording at concerts. He was at a show overseas, and witnessed with his own eyes, Elson doing something very strange. The Front of House sound was not the sound that the recording trucks were picking up. The show was to be recorded in order to play on a radio show later on...anyway, Svante Petersson was a credible witness and as soon as that dude weighed in, the verdict was handed down. Journey were guilty as a bloody glove. People believed then. However, and this is what pissed me off more than anything. Journey knew we knew, yet, in a few months, they signed on with Def Lippard to start yet another tour lipping! Those dumb bastards thought this would all float away. So, a few weeks into the Lippard tour, the shit hits the fan. Azoff and Baruck fly out to Virginia I think it was from LA to see Augeri in action. Oh shit...The next thing you know, Neal and Cain are trembling in their boots...news came down that the band would be going LIVE with Augeri. Well, that was his last night. He didn't make it through the show and Deen had to come out front from behind the kit as his tech took over on skins. That part I felt bad for SA...He was definitely the fall guy and this was the ugly part of it. Too bad they all couldn't have taken the fall. Anyway, the next night, JSS was leading the band. Can you believe there are still people who think they didn't do this? My only question is, don't you find it ironic that as soon as the band said it was going "live" and the very first show of a live Journey, Augeri fails to make it through? Huh? But Neal never knew about it.

Also, just for the record because we never harped on this, but Cain lipped Every Generation, every single night. Class act right there.

Yet he talks about protecting the legacy. What hypocrites these douches are...all of them.
