Christmas Shoes

Postby YoungJRNY » Tue Dec 07, 2010 3:55 pm

I just got done watching possibly one of THEE saddest movies I've ever witnessed watching. It kind of hit me in the face. I've never teared up during a movie, never. I thought a couple parts in John Q at the end there was sad and Marley and Me was defiantly sad, but this Christmas movie, Christmas Shoes trumps Marley and Me by the thousands. As a man, you could bash your head up against a brick wall repeatedly to prove your male-ness, but if you don't atleast tear up a bit watching this movie, you simply have NO soul.

It's about a couple families within the their own community that share different styles of family. One side is a very close family and the other has a dad as a work-a-holic who separates his own family because of his work schedule. In a nut-shell, it's Christmas time and the little boy in the close family finds out his mother is dying and he ends up wanting to buy her Christmas shoes before she pass's away. It all eventually meets in the middle but not only was it a very sad flick throughout the entire movie, but it was very, very good and the message is very, very powerful. I suggest this one.

I refuse to listen to the song. I just think that I have the whole year to be sad by things such as this, so I like Christmas time to be happy, unless there is a real reason in my own life to be sad. I just won't go intentionally looking for sadness I guess. I'm sure it had a good message, but I can find happier ways to get good messages! Glad you liked it though! :) I'm more of an Elf/Christmas vacation/Scrooged kind of person! And I can find messages in them too!

I did see that one last year, and yes it is so sad :(

I'm a sap and love sappy movies, and there's NOTHING wrong at all with a man who does too! lol 8)

I read the book a few years ago and had a hard time getting through the last little bit because I couldn't see through all the tears! Very sad.

PS, Where's Gator? The guy that sings the song is his neighbor...

I've seen it, so I knew how heart~wrenching it was, but I made the mistake of watching it at the gym Saturday
while on the elliptical!! It wasn't too bad when it was just a tear here and there, but when
it turned into full blown snot slinging sobbing, it got a little embarrassing ...for everyone else ~I was fine!!
Did you see the follow up movie, The Christmas Blessing?!? It came on right after!! The child in that
movie stomped the pooh out of my heart after the first kid ripped it out!!

I thought the same thing. I've heard of the movie and esp the song, but never intended the movie to be that sad. I agree, Christmas should be about laughter, family and compassion and all of that but watching a movie like this kind of brings you back down to Earth in the simple way of appreciating what Christmas is all about and that's all the money in the world will never conquer the heart of family and loved ones. I think if anything, this movie puts you even MORE in the X-mas mood.

MG, I'm going to have to check that follow up out! I get personal satisfaction out of seeing my girlfriend ball so I warned her about this one  Girls crying is like my Kryptonite for some reason. She always asks me during movies "How can you NOT think this is sad? You're such a man..." haha. I admit I pretty much wear every emotion on my sleeve so she may get her wish to see my eyes water a tad bit.

Now, now, you wouldn't be accusing me of the latter would you? I just don't need a sobfest to remind me to appreciate my loved ones around Christmas.

I just don't like to feel sad or to cry or be brought down by fictional stories when real life can bring enough sadness I guess. I guess I just don't see the point. Im not a scrooge though!! I love Christmas and I love everything happy about it and I share and give and all those great things!!!! I HAVE cried in a movie before though! I cried in Toy story 3 and I cried in Mama Mia when she sang that song to her daughter on her wedding day which would be the most recent I can think of. Notice, revolving around letting go of children!!! I remember years ago crying in Lion King when Simba's dad died, because my dad had just passed away a few months earlier :( I AM moved by movies. But I don't go out seeking movies that I KNOW will be sad and bring me down. If I cry in a movie by surprise, that's okay!!

You want to see Trav's eyes water? Wait til Tom Brady goes for 24 for 30 with four TD's and 340 yds against his Steelers in the playoffs at Foxboro. Trav will be heading to the Shrink at record pace.

Lmao, and Deano in with the 10 count! Wouldn't be the first time, brother!

Gator, that's awesome man. That guys lead voice ties everything into the emotion of the movie, which I think is key to genre's and movies of any type. Soundtracks are important. I mean, who would want to see Rocky running up and down the streets of Philadelphia to Rick Astley? :x
