He's no Adrian Gonzalez

Really? Paying Jeter (who will be 37 during the season next year) $17 million dollars per season coming off of the worse season he has ever had "makes sense"? I think it was a fucking absurd contract. 37 year old players don't get better (unless it's Barry Bonds pumping every substance under the sun into his ass cheek)! I think the Red Sox are fucking insane for paying Carl Crawford $20 million dollars per season, because in my opinion, he's not that kind of a player. That said, I'll take Crawford for $20m per over Jeter at $17m per 100 out of 100 times!

you never know, he might go out with a bang and have a stellar final couple of years...world series is all that matters right... so if he gets a ring the next year or so...the contract is worth it...
my main statement being that 90% of those contracts with players, if the owners were intellegent would be to have the players at 2-3 year deals... keep them HUNGRY for success... instead of lazy and uninterested after the 3 year of a 7-10 year deal...and your investment goes sour...

Easy big fella. I remember all the overblown hype about the Miami Heat, and look at those clowns. By the way, the Sox did obviously do well, BUT, if Cashman inks Cliff Lee, then it's all erased. I'll take one excellent pitcher over two excellent hitters.

Still, not a hole in the lineup, although Scutaro is average and Saltamacchia has not proven anything yet. He's much better defensively than Martinez, however.

It would certainly make sense to have Pedroia lead off

Pedroia isn't a lead off hitter and doesn't like hitting in that position. I'm fairly certain given the fact that they just signed Carl Crawford to a ridiculous contract, he'll be the guy leading off.
conversationpc wrote:I think he would make a better leadoff hitter than either Crawford or Ellsbury simply for the fact that he gets on base quite a bit more than either of those guys. Both Crawford and Ellsbury have a career OBP around .340 and Pedroia's is closer to .370.
Seven Wishes wrote:He's more like Jeter in his prime - the ideal #2 hitter.
Supposedly, the Sox are close to signing Russell Martin - an average hitter with some pop, but a multiple Gold Glove Award winner. This acquisition would REALLY solidify the lineup and make the Sox the team to beat in MLB.

Um, no he is not. he isn't even close to the best shortstop in baseball. Is he a great leader? Absolutely, but he isn't a top 5 or even a top 10 SS in MLB today.
The guy is a Hall of Famer, and I love him, but dude just 250 and change, made ashit ton of errors and IMHO, should switch positions with his third baseman, who is a much better SS.

What a fucking MORONIC statement! Jeter isn't close to "the best shortstop in the league" and even when he was in his prime (which isn't now), he was always a VERY average shortstop. The fact that he was awarded a gold glove last season is a complete fucking embarrassment to anyone who has ever called themselves a baseball fan!
