Journey with Foreigner and Reo Speedwagon in Augsburg, Germany -22 June 2011.

I'm thinking more and more that the Scorps will be out in favor of Kansas or the fucking Greg Kihn band. Looks like this is definitely going to be an '80s Top 40 nostagia tour.

If Journey fucks up the chance to play with the Scorpions because of money their management blows. They'll make a shitload of money in other ways with the Scorpions and actually be tapping into a new pool of fans for the first time in ... forever!!! If that doesn't interest them, I won't be doing many shows next year.

Tour with the Scorpions, motherfuckers!!!

I think Schwabenhalle only holds 4000 people. Why three acts? Azoff must want to use Journey as a Jackwagon to get his other bands into these venues.

That crossede my mind (REO), but you really think Azoff cares one iota about REO? His REO money is like the quarter and 3 pennies you find in your pocket. He makes some solid money with Journey, but his big clients are Christina and The Eagles.

This tour will tell a lot about Journey's future. Look at the pairings and you will see through the lines what the future will hold. Like Dan said, if they were to tour with the Scorpions, they could tap into a fairly new pool of fans...while I disagree with Dan and don't think many Scorpion fans would ever dig journey, the effort will have been made. if you see them go out with another dinosaur band and play the GH again, well then maybe the future is going to be 2 more years and collect as much as you can before retiring.

Have been a fan of both Journey and the Scorpions going way back. I would absolutely love this pairing if comes about. I don't think most US fans would have a problem with that combination. Pairings like this were not uncommon at festival shows back in the 80s and early 90s.

Would like to catch a Scorpions show before they hang it up for good.

A show in Hannover on June 17 with Foreigner and REO, sounds like a festival this time.

Dean, I think the question is, could Niel's ego survive either opening for the Scorpions or having Scorpion fans flow out of the venue with a sudden hankering for Chinese food? Because you can bet your ass that is what would happen.

I don't think it can!!!

I hate to keep shitting on Journey, because they are fairly talented, but I think you may be right. The Scorpions would close for sure and they would blast them off the fucking stage.

However, I seriously don't think this will ever happen. Just too different of genres. One is a rock band and one is a soft rock/pop band. I doubt there would be any crossover fans. Can you imagine the Scorpion fans sitting through Faithfully, WCN, Open Arms or SHML? I didn't think so. I think Neal has done the math on this and doesn't like the sum. This scenario has the potential to really embarrass Journey; although I personally think Journey is much more talented, the styles of music can't possibly favour Journey here.

Wrong on all counts. It's a simple money issue and hopefully they come to an agreement. Journey would be the closer ... that's not even an issue. They would have more fans than the Scorpions at about a 2-1 clip.

As for ballads, the Scorpions have a few of their own. Winds Of Change and Holiday quickly come to mind. And there's no issue with Journey playing ballads. The Euros, the same people that rock harder than anyone and dismember soccer officials over bad calls, melted when Journey played some of the harder rock fests in the world and sang along to every slow song. The crowds and song selection are not issues ... money is. I have a feeling that the Scorpions are commanding a bigger piece of the pie than Uncle Irving is willing to allow. If he fucks this up and they don't tour with the Scorpions they'll make more money, but they'll gain no new fans, be playing to the same crowds that only want to hear the same old shit and their new album will have been made for NOTHING. Sure, it'll sell, but it won't take grip with actual followers of the music. If they are truly excited by the new album and want to move in a different direction, they'll MAKE THE SCORPIONS DEAL HAPPEN. If not, I'll go to one show, maybe two, and start closing the chapter on this new album. If they don't care, I don't either. :)

If Journey could hold their own at the Graspop Metal Festival last year--and be considered maybe the best band of the day, they could certainly hold their own with the Scorpions. Whether they would want to might be a different story, but they have the songs to play if they wanted to compete on the heavier rock stage.

They will be at Grapop again this summer but the headliner on their performance day is slated to be Scorpions. That makes sense, it is a metal festival after all.

In the States, no promoter would book a gig with Journey performing before the Scorpions. No way. Never.

I'm saying Neil doesn't want 1/4 of "his" audience hitting the gate before his sideshow can even hit center stage.

I could see it happening. It's the same reason the BA/Leppard tour went from being a co-headliner with bands alternating the opening spot to BA opening every show a few weeks into the tour.

The audience was leaving after Leppard opened. Don't think Niel wouldn't meltdown and start blaming Perry!
