Lynn, Stu and Travis...three Pens fans- You have to watch the HBO series Pens/Caps 24/7. It's awesome! Watched it last night. They follow the teams all day...in the lockerroom, on the plane and bus, practice, etc. it's all uncut and unedited...swearing, the works. Not that swearing makes the documentary, but it just shows how real it is.

Currently, with the Penguins playing white hot hockey, and the Caps losing 6 straight, it makes for a dynamic contrast. You see Pens coach Dan Bylsma enjoying the surge, the happiness in Pens hockey and so forth...vs Cap coach Bruce Bordreau absolutely losing it, dropping F bombs all over the place, Caps players getting sick from flu, and etc etc. it is really cool to see. Any sport fan would enjoy it. This is basically PR from the NHL leadiong up to the Winter Classic outdoors in Pittsburgh. Cannot wait for that. The city of pittsburgh really shines through on this show. What a great town.

This program also shows why hockey players are easily the best guys in sports. So polite, respectful, well spoken....and if you see them in action in the community, with the kids, it's really endearing to see. They are so humanly and gracious with the city's people, then by night, turn into fucking gladiators!

HBO..next episode is next Tues or Wednesday night I believe.

Barely consider it a sport, but all three daughters played soccer. Never could understand the reasoning of the "off sides" rule. If someone wants to cherry pick, just defend them. Heck, why not add the rule to basketball if it that important.

Just saw Hockey discussion, same principle I guess.

Doesn't matter I guess as I don't watch either.

I am telling you, it is awesome. Makes me want to live in PGH. What a good bunch of guys the Pens have, and they have the nicest arena in sports now.

Lynn, watch this youtube clip of last night's show. Look what these NHL clowns do to prank the rookies!

Pyramid trick. Sick skill. The first two shots he is trying to hit the bars...which he does. The pyramid trick is beyond words.

You just gotta love how Bettman favors Crosby and Ovechkin. Pens were in a Winter Classic already. This will be the 4th WC - 2nd for the Pens. Crosby and Ovie on Price is Right? It's ok the market the league as a whole, but when you favor certain cities/players - there's something wrong.

I understand that certain cities are gonna host the WC all the time....but change up the teams.

I agree with you...But Sidney is the face of the sport. I would think the rangers and say, Toronto from Yankee stadium would be a nice game. Maybe have one Canadian WC and one American. You could have say Vancouver at Montreal from Alouette stadiuym then aftyerwards, have the American classic...or even better, pit a team from each nation every year. of course you would have to feature Northeast teams for the snow....and maybe Minnesota.

That way you could have good teams play that are never on NBC, like vancouver being an example. You still want to have good teams. I don't think NBC wants a Florida vs Ducks game. I do agree with you Sean, it's almost as bad as the NBA. Every game of the week is almost always the Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Denver or Dallas...maybe orlando....every frickin week! The NHL on Monday and tuesdays on Versus is just the opposite. They have all the teams on and it just sucks. They had the Predators and Stars on and then the Lightning and Sharks. Come on, find some middle ground. How about a Boston v Montreal, or Philly Colorado?

Good thread by the way, S2M.

The first 3 WC games should have been Original 6 teams....not even a question. And the one last year should have been Boston/Montreal....I thought Canada already had the Heritage Classic?

2011 Heritage Classic - in Calgary

That is SO cool! Thanks! I just love them. So this is a series, so I'll have to check to see if HBO has it on demand so I can watch what I missed! We have HBO, but I'm terrible at looking at the schedule! I never would have noticed this! Pittsburgh is a great city. I think it gets a bad rap, as it was always considered a steel town. But years ago, it really developed into a great city! I think nicer than Cleveland, though Cleveland has really improved over the years too.

How is that envy? I'm not lobbying for the Bruins to be in another. You just sit back and root for those cheats. Again, tanking for 3 years to get awesome picks.

I will tell you this however. I know you don't follow basketball, but the Celtics came in last in '97. And missed out on the best player in the draft(Tim Duncan), a player - mind you that would have cemented them as multiple championship winners - but due to the lottery system - we didn't get him. Hockey has a lame system that the biggest loser can do no worse than the 2nd pick....Meanie, Lefty, Tree-Sniffer, and now we can add another - CHEATER.

 Well it's just the gigantic amount of stops in football is what amazes me, lol. Like B said, just PLAY for crying out loud!

The "Stoppage" in games is called Big Business. No one likes it, the NFL is a money-making machine and business's know this. Super Bowl ads are the most expensive ads on tv. I Fucking HATE the pre-game BULLSHIT of every network having former NFL players running their FUCKING MOUTHS about this & that and Why & what. Hell, just start the fucking game already! When it say's @ 8:00 pm, start the motherfucking game at 8. I do not need to hear Matt"The worst GM in the history of football" Milan tell me about football. Or the Never relevant Thiesman! If I didn't know the rules of the game or whats going on, I wouldn't watch the fucking sport in the first place. Hell, I grew up in Florida, therefore I don't know shit about Hockey. There was never any snow or frozen ponds to learn the game, so why bother with it. All I do know is that most of the names, you cannot even pronounce, their either from sweden, russia, check republic, finland, norway and for all I know the north pole and Antarctica! Now back to football rules of the game. Pass interference needs to stay the way it is. The Db's need to keep their fucking hands to their selves. You have no chance when someone is reaching inside and holding down one of your arms. If the receiver is 6'5" and the Db is all of 5'9", your fucked, go find a taller db, yours isn't good enough! I agree with S2M on intentional grounding, and for that matter, the ticky tac bullshit of protecting Peyton, Brady, at all cost. Hell, some qb's get their ass's belted and nothings called, but touch that pretty boy Brady or the face of the league Manning and your getting fined and a 3 game suspension! And Deano, Basketball is, has, was and always will be a fineness game. You either love it or hate it and right now behind the NFL it's the second most popular sport in america. Hockey isn't even televised.

Calling someone a fucktard just for something that stupid? Give me a break. I think you're taking it a little too seriously. I'm not saying it absolutely SHOULD be done, just comparing it to what the rest of the players are allowed to do. Dumbass.

I've seen some of this and absolutley love it. To be right in the middle of the passion within two sports teams is simply incredible. The Penguins were always beloved in this city from the Mario and Jagr days as well as the terrible days within the start of the middle 2000's, but say what you want about Pittsburgh fans, they always remain, support and breath passion on the city when it comes to sports. Even though we ALL know that the Pirates will never win again, we remain supportive just because they are the Pirates of Pittsburgh and we will always think "this is the year we TRY to get to .500!" haha.

As far as you living here, you might want to re-tract that statement. As much as you love the Pens organization and players, I know you hate the Steelers with the utmost passion so if you were to live here, get ready to see nothing but Pittsburgh Steelers coverage, jersey's, restaurants and any other craze you can think of. Even though hockey is not only climbing the charts worldwide & esp in Pittsburgh, they will never reach the popularity and craze that is football in this town. The Steelers own this town by the trillions when it comes to passion and love. I think you'd get pretty sick of it!
