The big thing here, is we have had gays in the military for years. Many American commanders overseas have Totalitarian power over their facilties and for the most part accepted it that some members of their small communities were gay (with a wink and a nudge because it was NOT a big issue).
The Miltary has had a headstart on this for years. It will work itself out. It just takes educating, which has already been happening. The last decade has changed in many areas for the services. No longer can you join up to get a free ride because you had ten kids by the time you were 30 or you had problems with the law. The new soldier is far more educated than he was 40 years ago. The average ENLISTED Air force recruit comes though the door with an Associates degree and is 21. The days of pulling in not so bright 17 year old joes from the bayou are over.

All true but my point was that you still can't compare us to other nation's militaries ... Wonder what the first transgender uniform will look like?

Of course you can. He just did. ;)

As always , great points sir !

Like Dean said , this is a very simple matter.
Who cares about peoples sexual preferences , if they're willing to risk their lives for you! Just deal with it and be appreciative instead of bitching from the comfort of your home !

A-fuckin'-men! That's the bottom line right there.

If homosexuals want to serve and put their lives on the line for America and the sorry assed bigots who can't seem to get over the idea of two men being loving each other, they just need to shut the fuck up and stop predicting the future.

We know conservatives hate change. We know they have all kinds of "the end is nigh" scenarios when change is put into action, but 99.9% of their fears are always proven wrong and their doomsday scenarios never happen.

It's gonna be alright folks. No one is gonna try to fuck you in a foxhole and as I said before when the leaders make the rules the soldiers have to follow and there is no higher rule maker than our President.

Exactly. Transgender? Flamboyant? The homophobia shines clear and bright on these pages. Little boys who either can't deal with their own sexuality or are simply used to bullying others.

I wonder how many of those folks that are so bigoted claim to be Christian?

I suspect most of them, and they will probably say that the bible supports their views on homosexuality.

No it should be get the fuck over it and let people be who they are.

Why didn't the people that asked get in trouble?

The game was DON'T ASK ---DON'T TELL. So if you told, you were discharged, if you asked, you should have been discharged.

True, but anyone using God as an excuse to mistreat homosexuals or discriminate them has obviously not read the Bible and has no grasp whatsoever of history.

Man, sad to see so many prejudice folk in 2010.
Sadder that they try and hide behind "God" to justify it.

Peace on Earth.

How come that one never takes hold?

Religion is often the cuase of the bigotry as well as the shield to hide behind.

As for Jim's assertion about being a fox hole worrying about the guy next to him wanting to have sex with him...dude...do you REALLY think that when someone is in a fox hole that they are even THINKING about sex...at all...gay or straight? Nope...sorry...staying alive, sticking to the mission and coming home are about all that flashes through your mind.

You get laid on leave, or weekend liberty...you don't worry about it while in combat, and it is a silly assertion to think otherwise.

Dude, I don't judge you on your opinion, and I'd appreciate the same respect. What do you think the military would think about co-ed showers? Males and females together? Same thing goes when you put someone who's interested in those of the same sex, in the same shower! They wouldn't (and won't) feel comfortable with it. Not many jobs put people in such close scenarios with each other as the U.S. military.

And what's with all this "Jim thinks he's gonna get stabbed in the butt in a foxhole"? I've never said that, and it's ridiculous. I've said that if you put people in those close situations, someone's going to make advances, and it WILL cause serious conflicts and maybe even death. I didn't say EVERY TIME someone's in a damn foxhole!

Again, you're free to believe what you want. I believe it'll lead to conflicts. Like I said, I'll sit back like the rest of you and see what happens. I believe that this WILL come up again in here, and soon. That's my $.02.

Anybody think about the financial cost to all of this? No matter what, things will change and the changes may be expensive. Who's gonna pay for it all, and how? Do we really need all this expense now?
Also, will the UCMJ have to be re-written in any way?

If we had to prevent/stop any (positive) changes due to the cost/expense factor, do you have a clue where we'd be right now ???

What's the matter with you, dude? I bet you're one of those guys that wears a wetsuit when showering with other guys. What you obviously fail to realize is that you've most likely showered with a lot of gay dudes before, and they most likely checked out your junk too. The didn't say anything about it then (except laughing a little bit), and they won't speak up (or raping you in the face) now either. I mean, come on. You're acting like such a bitch. Just because it's allowed to be openly gay in the army, doesn't mean that you're gonna start seeing daily bukkake scenes in the showers or whatever. Your argument holds no validity what so ever, except for revealing your obvious lack of confidence and knowledge on the matter.

Sorry, but that's the kind of ignorant crap that's wrong with the world. Let people be as they are. What's it to you? People need to quit being sheep for a religion, an interpretation of a religion, or political party, or whatever it is that leads them to just ignorantly hate others or groups of people. Think for yourselves. Seriously, the entire world is fighting with each other over stupid crap like this- "those guys aren't like us, we better fight them!". The fact that the MILITARY, who goes into other countries and protects the US, can become so afraid of "GAY" that it brings our friggin government to a standstill is HORRENDOUSLY IDIOTIC. These big, strong, gun totin' dudes are afraid of a person's sexual preference?? Then they shouldn't be able to carry a weapon if they are that stupid. Being against gay folks (or black, or chinese, or white, or whatever....) serves absolutely no purpose but to breed hatred. If you can't deal with a certain life style (and I don't think it's a life style or choice for most-my opinion), then don't pursue it. If others pursue it, what do you care? (Not YOU Jim, but anyone). Why the heck do people want to hate so much? I don't understand that. We will never have peace in the world unless people learn to deal with each other

"Peace on Earth"... as long as you believe in what I do and live like I do.

Stupid and I stand by my comment. If you don't agree with me, maybe you better take away some of my rights or kill me. Seems to be the way we work stuff out...

And I'm not judging YOU Jim. I'm judging your opinion. I don't even know you, though this week I've certainly learned a lot.
