Car Hopping

Postby S2M » Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:50 pm

...well, that's what my brother and I called it back in the late 70s-early 80s....A stupid, but FUN thing we would do in the winter during a showstorm. Basically we would hide in the bushes near a stop sign near our apartment and when a car had stopped at the intersection - we would sneak behind the car and grab the back bumper. And when the car took off - so would we, sliding behind the car. Hey, we were kids...

My area is expecting 12-20 inches between noon today and 6pm tomorrow night. However, at 42(in 3 weeks) I will not, I repeat - not be car hopping today....

We called it hookie bobbin. I was always too chicken to try it though-my mom did a good job of scaring me with horror stories of people getting killed by doing it....I'm sure the stories were made up, but it still kept me from ever doing it.

We called it skitching and it was a fucking blast! S2M, I would be down with doing this again, man. The great part is that now I wouldn't have to run when you get that irrate asshole that jumps out of the car and chases you like you groped his wife or something. Now, we could just stand there and tell him to go fuck himself.

I was 5'10 and about 130-140 pounds in 8th grade, and it's mainly because we were always doing something to get chased. Bombing cars with snowballs, skitching and playing tackle football in the snow in Winter, or playing strikeout, lob league, homerun derby or telling the older to kids to fuck off to get chased in the summer. I remember getting caught by the church gardner after ripping out the flowers he planted and getting a major league ass-kicking.  He was 18 or 19 and I was 13 or 14 and the motherfucker Rodney King'd me. Beat the hell out of me, man. I knew I could have him arrested, but I took my beating like a man ... and then had my friends go back and rip the flowers out again.

The worst ass kickin I ever received as a kid was in the 7th grade....from a douche named Jamie Lavoie. This punk would tease the shit out of me, makes what Deano does seem like Romper Room. Anyway, one day I had asked my science teacher if I could take some 'glassware' home to do some experiments.(yes, I was a nerdy kid)...so here I am walking home with this box of beakers, pipettes, graduated cylinders...etc and here comes Jamie and another halfwit skipping down the street like the faeries that they were. They spy me, and subsequently rip the box out of my arms and smash it to the ground....then proceed to kick the shit out of me(as much as a couple of 8th graders could).

Years later when I was carrying mail in my old hometown, I delivered mail to Jamie's apartment. I guess he never left town. He lived with a woman, and he worked for a hull-fabrication and outfitting facility called Electric Boat Corporation...I should've did something to that smeg's mail.

You should have just tossed all of his mail in the garbage. Nice way for bills to pile up and his credit to get ruined. Sounds to me like it may not have mattered, as this guy alrady sounds like a real trashball, but it's the thought that counts.

Yeah, we called it Ski-Jogging or Hookie Bobbing.

Better yet, we had this neighbor with a huge yard which had this tall hedge row wrapping around the corner. The city bus ran on that same street. We would build up a nice little armory of snowballs and wait for the bus to come by, then we would hurl as many snowballs as we could at the bus. It pissed the bus driver off and probably gave some of the passengers a heart attack, but anytime the bus would stop we would easily disappear. They never could see who did it. LOL

We called it bumper skitching we even went a degree further when one of our friends finally got a car...put on 2 pairs of pants(the outside pants were your beat up pieces of crap and then lay down on the ground behind the car and hang on to the bumper for as long as you can. Our buddy would do this all night if anyone was game ,he would go in the school parking lot and drive all over the place. The worst part was going over the speed bumps and somehow the snow would pulverize your face , when you got up you ended up looking like santa. We would take the trays from the cafeteria at school bring them home and then later that night use them as the first snowboard behind my friends car, man those were fun times. (i'd go back to those times in a heartbeat)
