Hey Pittsburgh...Winter Classic

Postby Enigma869 » Sun Jan 02, 2011 11:29 am

Why the fuck are you having someone perform the Canadian National Anthem at an American hockey game between two American hockey teams? What am I missing here? Did Shitsburgh secede from the Union and forget to tell someone?

What's the total percentages of actual Americans playing in the NHL? I don't think it's much. It's a Canadian game through and through, it's respect to the players playing the game on ice and understanding, nationally, the heritage of the game.

Sorry to Canadian hockey fans, but it seems rather disrespectful to play the Canadian national anthem at an American sporting even regardless of how many teams there are from Canada and especially if both teams are from the U.S. Seems simple to me...If the event is held in Canada, they can play their national anthem on their own home turf. Same deal if the event is held here.

That's a brilliant explanation. Listen, I grew up in an original 6 NHL city so have watched a fuckload of NHL hockey in my life and the ONLY American city that I have EVER heard the Canadian National Anthem performed is Buffalo (which might as well be in Canada). I have never one single time hear the Canadian National Anthem performed at a Bruins game without a Canadian opponent in attendance.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? Hell, at this point, there are probably more Europeans in the NHL than there are Americans. There have ALWAYS been FAR more Canadians playing in the NHL than Americans. That doesn't change the fact that the Canadian National Anthem isn't played in any city (that I know of) other than Buffalo, when non-Canadian teams are playing.

Obviously you don't watch much hockey to get it. Many players and coaches on these US teams ARE Canadians who are drafted into the US teams they ALL share in the SAME league. They are all part of the same league therefore they should share anthems. It's not the Canadians vs US in the NHL. Thats only in the olympics.

That is different. There are NO European teams in the NHL. Why is this so tough to understand?

Doesn't matter whether I watch much hockey or not. I know darn well that a majority and posibly vast majority of the players and coaches of the teams are Canadian. I just have a different opinion. Also never said it was Canada vs. the US. If I were a player and playing in a game in Canada, I would expect my anthem to be played in their country.

This is not a season game. It is a SPECIAL game, the "Winter Classic" with hockey history behind it. Nostalgia for outdoor play in a sport that was Canadas sport. It's not the norm. I can't believe the protest over Canada. They are our friends ;)

With all due respect, your post looks ridiculous to me. To tell someone that they "don't watch much hockey to get it" and then go on to attempt to elucidate the masses that this is done because "many players and coaches ARE Canadians", tells me that you don't get it. I believe you live in Florida and the only time you folks see ice is in your cocktails. That said, I'm confident that if you make your way to a professional hockey game (if such a thing even exist in that awful sports state), you won't find any Canadian National Anthem being sung if the L.A. Kings are in town!

Well, I can't tell you to go fuck yourself because of my new years resolution...

But YES we have NHL in Florida...Tampa bay closest to me. I attended the Pens (my team) vs. the TB Lightning (a good team btw) in October, so I really don't get YOUR point. All I see is a bunch of football jocks looking for a reason to dis hockey. There is nothing wrong with them using the Canadian anthem for this SPECIAL game. I am sure there is tradition behind it.

Dopey argument. I'm quite confident that if Canada had two MLB teams who played each other or two NBA teams who played each other, they wouldn't be playing the American National Anthem as a homage to the U.S., even those are both our sports!

I'm really not "protesting" at all. I simply thought those dopes in Pittsburgh forgot where they were. Aside from the incredibly fucking annoying "eh" that Canadians interject into every sentence every 8 seconds, they're fine people and I've yet to meet one who I didn't like.

For more than one reason that won't happen! Apparently he has no clue. TB is not a shity team at all. They won a cup not long ago and they killed the Pens the night I saw them. They're a good team.
