What's With Canada?

Postby Enigma869 » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:19 pm

What the fuck is with Montreal fans booing the American National Anthem every time it is played? Meanwhile, our dopey fucking hockey fans in this country are playing the Canadian National Anthem during a game between two American teams because of some compelling need to pay homage to Canada. I'm not sure what beef that Canada (and more specifically Montreal) has with the U.S., but it's incredibly disrespectful to boo any country's National Anthem. These Montreal fuckers have a history of this. To all you Montreal fans out there...go fuck yourself!

I like what I heard about Yngwie Malmsteen one time. I think it was in South America somewhere where he played the U.S. national anthem as a guitar solo once. Some of the fans at the show started booing or chanting about Bin Laden or something to that effect, so he walked back out onstage and played it again and left.

Wow!! Can't BELIEVE I'm going to agree with you!!  Montreal have a reputation for booing. They Boo'd the Pens in the playoffs last year, even the players who were FROM that area of Canada. I mean constant, the entire game. They are loud and rude I think. It's their thing. Though some may call them passionate fans  I was so pissed we lost to them!! Are French Canadians just rude?

I absolutely agree - disgusts me every time I hear that, I don't get it (maybe they don't understand the words 'cause it's not in French? )

But - I am Canadian and also a Montreal fan - but would NEVER in a million years participate in that - so please change the title of your thread to "What's with Montreal fans at the Bell Centre?" :) Their behavior is not normal

This is how it's done, you classless Montreal scumbags...

Just one more reason that I love my fine city. In spite of outsiders claiming were rude and surly (and some of us are and damn proud of it), it shows we're a classy bunch who would NEVER boo another country's National Anthem. Watching the beginning of the Bruins/Montreal games tonight and listening to those classless fucks made me want to drive to Montreal and slap the shit out of every one of those fucks!

Some are, some aren't  - just like anyone else, I guess. It's one thing to boo the other team - that's somewhat normal - but to boo the anthem is just ridiculous - I couldn't believe it when I first heard them doing it a few years ago. Those fans are very strange - between the booing and that stupid song they chant - just weird!

Well, I know it's normal to boo to a degree! But it was to the point of annoying in the playoffs! It was so loud and obnoxious that even the commentators mentioned it! It's distracting to the players too, which maybe is their point. They really don't like Fleury, and he grew up there. They are definitely different!

Does CB watch hockey ONLY for the National Anthems ?! ;)
What Montreal fans did was wrong, as wrong as some people from US complaining about the Canadian National Anthem being performed in Pittsburgh last week  ;)

I didn't see the game, but maybe Fleury had one of his off nights? I don't know! They usually do ok with or without Crosby but the Pens are just so inconsistent sometimes! I saw them get killed by Tampa in October WITH Crosby. Yet they've killed TB every other game this season at home. On Wed. I think they beat them 8-1. I can never figure them out

Is this anything like when the World Cup was in Mexico, and the Mexicans were chanting Osama? Yeah, that happened. No, I know that wouldn't happen with our cousins from the north.

I think it was the 2002 World Cup. I can't remember if it was held in Mexico, but it was right near the boarder. I remember when it happened, because the following couple of years were the only years I cared about soccer. Whenever we played Mexico I tried to follow it.

Listen. Canadians can be separated into two groups...the elitist, cheese-eating surrender-monkey French Quebecans, and the rest (thankfully and overwhelming majority). I LOVE 'em. I've never met ONE Canadian who wasn't kind, intelligent, decent, and humble.

But Canadiens fans SUCK. Fuck 'em. Go back to France already.

I wish that I could apologize for my beefed up ego countryman to the north but that would be beneath them.
My hockey heart has been owned by the Canadiens since the 70's, I love the team!
It peeves me plenty and has me wanting to puck off heads when fans flame on inappropriately.

Booing another nation's national anthem is incredibly rude and therefore not typical of Canadians! I'm not sure what is getting into the fans over in Montreal (something in the water?), but in true Canadian fashion and on behalf of mortified Canadians everywhere, I must say: I'm sorry!

I remember a news story last year that they were going to stop allowing unhealthy food to be served at sporting events in Quebec and there was an outcry over the ban on poutine. Perhaps they are getting cranky and need the carb combo back to settle their nerves.

Well said. I've actually been to Canada (thankfully, not Montreal), and that every person I met was absolutely phenomenal! Really great people, but this thing in Montreal REALLY pisses me off, because they've been doing it FOREVER. Hell, just go on youtube and type in "Montreal fans booing national anthem", and you'll find endless clips. There is still nothing better than that clip I posted of Boston fans giving the Canadian National Anthem (which incidentally, I love) a standing ovation. Those Montreal fans should be ashamed of themselves. They really should go back to France and join the rest of the American haters in that fucking cesspool!

Dude, I live in Florida. In the winter they flock to Florida en masse'. In grocery stores or any department store @ 6am or 9 pm they are there, tank-tops, flip-flops, smelling like a bottle of scotch. And trust me, the women have no clue how to shave under their arms or use deodorant. It might just be the older generation of French who still cling to the past.

It wasn't about the singer, Jackass! It was about the fact that the entire group of 15,000 fans were on their feet showing class and applauding the Canadian National Anthem! Last I checked, it wasn't an American Idol contest!

That's funny - did someone say something about showing class?

I know what it was about, and I was just saying the singer was terrible. No doubt, it is very classy to applaud another countries national anthem. Even more so when it is being butchered.
