I should say, I liked him in some Bad English songs. I think he has a very cool and distinct timbre to his voice, but I think he wastes it. If I had his voice I'd use it much differently. But John always tries to do that, he always says - I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do it - I want it to be rough, I want it to be raw - Then in the end it sounds like a glossy record.

You know what, I am producing this girl right now, and I was trying to get a point across to her, and I finally realised, and I said come in the house for a minute, and I put on an old Babys record. I said this is what I am getting at. I haven't heard this record for years, so it may sound dated, but I think the energy I am looking for is something like this. I put on Head First. I hadn't heard it for a long long time, and it sounded great! John sounded energised, and rough, and raw, and going for notes and hitting them. There was some magic I hadn't heard John do in fifteen years. He can do it, he's got it, he'll do it, but then when it comes to recording he's thinks he's got the image of the guy who sang Missing You. He's got to take the dress off and do some rocking and rolling.


Waite's got it singing live, but he won't let it loose singing in a studio and sounds like he's prissy-footing around. He's got a cool and very distinctive voice, but he'll never be one of my favorite singers.

I'm looking forward to seeing John Waite in April, I can't wait. If there's anything that anyone wants me to ask him, just let me know.

I think Waite's quite a good singer, but his newer material has been awful. I don't really care or notice his phrasing. Just enjoy the sound of his voice. His music does slant far too much towards the easy listening side of things, which is a shame considering he can rock it up when he wants to (Change, Wild Life etc). Good stuff overall though, just have to be in the mood for him.
