Dude, the only bad album Dokken has ever put out was Shadowlife, and it's even good by a different standard -- just not as a Dokken album. I have 22 bonus Dokken tracks that have appeared on Japanese releases, compilations, etc. over the years and there's hardly a bum track among even those. Whether you like Don or not, he's one of the most solid melodic hard rock writers out there.

"Shadowlife" blows chunks in almost every way. The band that did that album forgot what they were in search of sounding like a cookie cutter band for popularity's sake.

As for S2M's comment about LSA...It's a great album. I wasn't hopeful but I think they pulled through on that one. There are a couple of duds but, overall, I think it ruled.

And at least one writer on heavyharmonies.com chose it as the best album that year. There are a few songs I really like on Shadowlife. "Puppet On A String" is cool and "Bitter Regret" is as good as any ballad Don's ever written. Don's been very vocal about hating that album though, as well as the mistake in being pushed in that direction. I think credit there goes to Kelly Gray, who also played in Queensryche and tried to grungify their sound a bit, too.

Queensryche's sound started in that direction before Gray got his hand on them (unless he's the guy that produced "Hear in the Now Frontier"). Anyway, who cares what they say on heavyharmonies.com. They obviously don't always know what they're talking about if they named that crapfest the best album that year.

The problem is $2K isn't enough. I'd spend too much time debating weither to catch up on my collecting hobbies (cds, movies, gaming, etc.,) or to put it towards a couple much-needed upgrades. My HDTV is showing signs of failing. In addition, my matress is about 2 years overdue for replacement, and I'd like to get one that will last me a very lonnngg time.

OMG! I started with the blog first and would have sworn I knew exactly who wrote that (a guy), because there were some specific references and phrases that I've heard over the past several years. But near the bottom I could tell this was obviously some sort of jilted lover. The YouTube vid pretty much confirms that. Heck, if it's an ex I actually still may know who wrote it, and even have a picture together with her. That really sucks though... the Internet is no place for that kind of trash. I'm glad to hear he doesn't really have Parkinson's Disease, though! Apparently a few close people did think that.

I'm not even sure if I want to see another MRfest. I was nearly blinded by seeing Drew in his stubbies, and not getting a VIP pass signed by the man.

Holy DAMN!!  It took a while, but I read the entire thing... DAMN!!! The funny thing about the girl giving him $20,000, is that that is the exact amount Alex told me that Don was wanting to charge him just to produce his solo album.  I told Alex at the time that he was probably lucky to make $20,000 off of his OWN album after all is said and done! Pretty fucking sad. :?

In thought of where this question is posted, I'd probably give it to Wombat for the last 5 years of my freeloading.
So far as S2M's stumpedness, figure a trip to anywhere warm would be a nice win for most North Americans right now.

Last year I split the donation up into two: A weekend trip that featured 5th row seats at a sold out Elton John/Billy Joel concert, hotel and dinner; and a golf trip for two to TPC at Sawgrass.

What would you like to do if you were given $2000 to do whatever you wanted with?

The hottest thing out is still the iPad. While that won't use the entire $2,000, I think an iPad, a 4G phone and a weekend getaway might be entice someone and also give them the reassurance that they're getting a lot of bang for their (donated) buck.

This is a great idea - everybody wants an iPad and a 4G phone, and at this time of the year most people would like to be somewhere else for a while unless they live in Hawaii. With some of the travel deals, you might be able to swing a weeklong vacation instead of a weekend. I wish I could have seen Elton John and Billy Joel in concert!
