Dude, the only bad album Dokken has ever put out was Shadowlife, and it's even good by a different standard -- just not as a Dokken album. I have 22 bonus Dokken tracks that have appeared on Japanese releases, compilations, etc. over the years and there's hardly a bum track among even those. Whether you like Don or not, he's one of the most solid melodic hard rock writers out there.
"Shadowlife" blows chunks in almost every way. The band that did that album forgot what they were in search of sounding like a cookie cutter band for popularity's sake.
As for S2M's comment about LSA...It's a great album. I wasn't hopeful but I think they pulled through on that one. There are a couple of duds but, overall, I think it ruled.
And at least one writer on heavyharmonies.com chose it as the best album that year. There are a few songs I really like on Shadowlife. "Puppet On A String" is cool and "Bitter Regret" is as good as any ballad Don's ever written. Don's been very vocal about hating that album though, as well as the mistake in being pushed in that direction. I think credit there goes to Kelly Gray, who also played in Queensryche and tried to grungify their sound a bit, too.
