Peterik's World Stage

Does anyone have the lineup for this year's World Stage show? I think it's coming up this weekend or next. I haven't seen anything yet as far as guests. I'm not going until I know who's playing. If it is the same people I probably won't go. I need at least one or two new faces.

Tito.....You really didn't miss a whole lot. The line-up was very thin this year. Anthony Gomes, Cathy Richardson,Colin Peterik, saxaphonist Mindi Abair, Lisa McClowery, Ides Of March, Alex Lihgtwood (sp) former lead singer of Santana, Bo Bice....and that's about it. Program given out mentioned Gunner Nelson but if he was to be there, he wasn't. Might be due to his uncle's death. Merchandise was almost non-exsistant with only Jim, Cathy and Anthony Gomes providing cd's for sale. And maybe Lisa. Everyone did the traditional 3 songs each for the most part. Was about a 3 1/2 hour show with 1- 20 min break. It was ok, but as I said, you really didn't miss much. Nowhere near like past shows have been. Hope he goes back to that for next year to be honest, going way to far into the jazz etc for my liking, needs to get back to rocking in my opinion.

I'm glad Axecrew answered. I was starting to feel like I was talking to myself. One more unanswered post and I was going to let people have it.

Poorly promoted event. I went to Peterik's site last week before I posted here and there were no updates. I actually thought it was next week but the date I saw on his website was last year's date which caused some confusion on my part. I didn't hear about it anywhere else. Did it sellout as usual?

Yesterday, I did some research and found out 1. it was this past weekend 2. very little in the way of reviews (mostly on his facebook page which I should've checked out in advance or add as a friend going forward) and 3. Who played. I would've been interested in seeing Alex Lightwood and although I'm indifferent to him - Bo Bice. At least he gave us two new faces, one (Bice) which is a surprise/newer talent. The rest of the lineup was the usual support, which is fine (they're good talent), but I'm not paying $50+ for them. I actually like hearing some of their songs but that is not the focal point for me. It definitely seems like this event has lost its momentum. Maybe seeing a lot of the same talent in one form or another over the last decade is getting old, so the addition of Bice and potentially Gunnar Nelson may have helped but I agree this looked like a weak show. If he had one or two more names on this show, it could've been good. I guess I don't mind missing this show this time.

Finally, after saying the event has lost momentum, I got to amend to say, it looks like he's starting to have two different World Stage shows. The original one, which looks to be scaling back, and the loaded lineup one he has done the last few years at the HOB. For lack of a better term, that is definitely the "A" show. The problem is, that is a charity event which costs $250 to go to - way out of yours truly's price range.

Tito.....can't fault a single word you said there. It seems like he is going in a different direction then when it all started out. I was able to find the line-up on his facebook page about 3 or 4 days in advance and came away totally unimpressed with it.
And it does suck that he saves the BIG names for the HOB and a ridiculous ticket price...charity not withstanding.
Gonna have to think real hard next year before committing to it again. His website is an ongoing bone of contention with me.....why have the damn thing if it's updated every 4 months or so and is completely out of date most of the time???

The HOB thing has more money behind it I would assume (250 a head I believe), so it would be easier for him to get people that he can "pay to play"....

This show besides that Santana guy and Bo Bice (No offense I would not pay to see him) seemed to be a house band show, with his house band stepping up as soloists....I had a few friends go, and they have been die hards and they are saying they are not going again...all of em...

I remember the good Ole Days though....WS 1 - 4....I had a blast....with guys like Kevin Cronin, Henry Paul, Don Barnes, Dennis Deyoung (singing with him on the World Stage CD) Johnny Van Zant...that was a powerhouse line up.....

I will say this....the WS band....when they are in Full Force is a monster group....Christian on Keys, Ed B on drums, Klem on Bass...Mike A on guitar with Joel....it really is the best Chicago has to offer...great players and great guys....

Hey joe.....ahhh the good old days.Gee those were just a few years ago in truth with this. Joel wasn't even there this year. To be honest, if the ticket hadnt been bought for me, i would've never went. For starters..the show is in BFE as you well know. And then add the weak-ass line-up and it really wasn't that great. As you said, the show turned into a house band showcase in some cases. The band is about as kick ass as there is out there, but even that isn't enough to ask people to drop 50 per ticket. Bo Bice was impressive and really enjoyed Alex Lightwood since i love the song "Winning", but other than that.....not a good show.

Bring back Don Barnes, Kevin Chalfant, Kelly Keagy, Jack Blades, Kip Winger, Henry Paul, and add a new face or two each year and it would be fun again.

Hi JV,

Good to hear from you. I bought KK's solo album a few years back. What an amazing talent. Have you worked with him?

Spot on with this post. The house band is great and I don't mind hearing their songs but they need to have some main event people. I did notice in the youtube video(s) I watched, Joel Hoekstra was missing, so even the house band was missing someone. I don't know if it's getting hard to book people or what but this show did seem to lack. Not knocking the performers who were there, they are all very talented people but I need to hear some hits.

Also, you're right. Those first shows back in St. Charles and then Morraine Valley were the bomb. I had a blast at those. The ones the last few years weren't that bad either.

I've hung out with the Night Ranger guys a number of times. Jeff Watson and Kelly Keagy are always cool to talk to. Brad Gillis is usually pretty good to talk to, too. I haven't been too impressed by the way Jack Blades has been with fans, though.
