G.I.Jim wrote:I know this won't mean anything to any of you in here, but a close friend of ours was in a house fire last night, and she lost everything. Last night, she was celebrating with her boyfriend for her birthday, and after a few drinks, she didn't feel good. She went and laid down in her room. Her boyfriend stayed up and started to cook some fries. He laid down while waiting for the grease to heat up, and fell asleep. He woke up during the fire, and got her out of the house. Her dog died in the fire, and luckily her son is safe. He was at his Grandma's for the night. If not, he would have died, since the fire was close to his bedroom. :(

We feel TERRIBLE for them, and we're helping rally stuff together for her. Like I said, she lost EVERYTHING. She made it out of there in a bra, t-shirt, and panties. That's all she has now. The Red Cross gave her a card with $500 which helps, but won't last her long. They have also provided a hotel for her to stay in, which was very nice. We've been having a TON of response here for her, and it looks like a lot of people are going to pull together for her. My wife talked to her today, and I think my wife's in worse shape than SHE is!

I know she's in shock, but she has a lot of friends here, and the outpouring here is amazing. :) For those here who are religious, please say a prayer for her tonight. She could use it. Thanks!

That's what you get for trying to cook fries. If it's not the house that kills you, it's the transfat.

Me too :( I have a 5 year old too and SO wish I could just bottle her and my son's innocence.

And what a reminder how important it is to have insurance! My cousin's next door neighbor just lost their house to fire last night from lightning. They all got out ok, but lost everything. My cousin and her family had to evacuate their house for hours also due to how close the fire was. Just so thankful everyone is ok, but what a hard thing to face now and in months to come. But thankfully they have insurance.

Yeah, it's D. The storms were bad last night, lightning in FL is like nowhere else! Seems the house pretty much took a direct hit and was so loud they said it was like a bomb.

Wow, that's awful:( must have been tough for them to have to evacuate with the kids, and hope their house would be fine! Glad they're ok! Lightning fires seem to happen a lot here!

I make sweet potato fries a lot at home. Cut them up and lightly dress them with olive oil and salt. Bake for 15-20 minutes at about 350 and they're done. Yum. :)

I'll have to try that dan! I love those, and baked would be healthier! Do you have a fry cutter? Do you cut them that way, or like chips?

I cut them with a knife and try to make them like fries (but thicker). It's hard cutting those damned things! :x

Nummy! Although that part sounded kinda gay coming from you. My veggie of late has been spaghetti squash, I've been on a real kick, never tried it before until just after Christmas and yum, dress it up a tad and feels like I'm eating pasta, minus the carbs and fat.
