However, this thread has turned from being a pretty decent argument, into a shitfest; mainly at the hands of Beshad (I did enjoy my beauty sleep however

). Let me clear some stuff up. I honestly didn't mean to tell Ginger to go fuck herself; that was a total misinterpretation of what I wrote. Now, the misconceptions about evolution and basic biology, as well as all the lingo been thrown out here is just sad. Seriously; you would think in a modernized western country, who've fostered some of the greatest scientists of all time and got some of the best academical institutions in the world, that things like creationism didn't exist. And actually, it doesn't. What little evidence the creationists think they had back in the nineties, was proven to be false years ago (transitional bones and parts; vestigal organs in whales or the human coccyx fossils and carbon dating among other things). I'm serious - ask any god damn biology or physics prof, and he'll tell you exactly that.
Modern evolutionary synthesis as it's now called, is actually rather simple if you avoid the genetics and cellular biology, but it's obvious that some of you have a religious agenda that you try to prove by pseudo science and bad use of terminology. I mean, seriously. At least get a basic understanding of it first. You're humiliating yourself, and would get thrown out of a debate if the only thing you people brought to it was: "evolved out of monkeys and no bones. No bones!"
But let's look away from the misconception for, because let's face it: pigs will fly before you open a book. The modern evolutionary synthesis is paramount in predicting outcomes in nature or in vitro - in a lab. The presence of cytochrome C. The end to end fusion of 2 ancestral chromosomes. The second centromeric remnant in chromosome 2. The mathematical models of evolution, extended via diffusion theory, allow predictions about the genetic structure of evolving populations. Embryological evidence - where you'll have ancestral traits which will appear and disappears in the stages of embryological development; the appearance of transitions from fish to amphibians to reptiles and then to mammals in all mammal embryos or the presence of a yolk sac, and it goes on and on and on, be it in genetics, geoscience or astronomical evidence. What you believe is irrelevant, it's what correct. Let's say you have a rabbit with a unknown sex. Two people vote on its sex. One votes female, the other male. Whether the person believes the rabbit is a female or a male is irrelevant; one will be wrong, no matter what she/she believes is the correct answer.
The meme for blind faith secures its own perpetuation by the simple unconscious expedient of discouraging rational inquiry. Guys, you fail. It's a shame that Intelligent Design or whatever you want to call it, has found its way into a science class - because of a uneducated minority with a religious agenda. People can believe whatever they want, but keep that shit out of the science class, because it's not - never has been, never will.
Evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts do not go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's, but apples did not suspend themselves in mid-air, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape-like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered.
