I looked it up, and Erie had 62.4 inches of snow that month of January 1978! Maybe those memories are why I have a hard time missing it now! Erie is usually within the top 20 cities with the most snowfall each year also. They are the forgotten city though, since Buffalo gets more attention, even though often times less snowfall. Living on a lake snowbelt sucks!!! It causes dreary rain in the fall too. I have heard that Erie rivals Seattle in clouds and rainfall, and I believe it!

We can relate Rick!! (except for the popping out part   ) Going from shorts weather to teens and snow is a shocker for the body! People up north can't get that! We aren't built for that once you are in the south a couple of years!!

Remember to keep in contact with senior citizens in your neighborhood and assist when possible. Clean around fire hydrants and raise your wiper blades upright (if possible) so that they do not freeze. Keep the water at a slow drip (faucet) so that you do not have frozen pipes. Let it snow, let it snow, I love this season.

My wiper blades are already frozen to the windshield. Too late for that. I may be lucky to thaw my truck out by Friday at this rate.

I don't think we have any snow expected, but it is supposed to get down to somewhere around -30 tonight. I think it hit -22 last night. I LOVE winter but even I am ready for spring this year!!

Snowing like a banshee in Chicago right now. Has been for several hours. 50 mph wind gusts too. Glad I stocked up on booze before it hit!

The thing that makes me laugh is how our local weathermen get a snowgasm just at the thought of a big winter storm.

Like this guy!

I know. It's definitely mojito time. I knew to expect a horrible storm, but this is absolute "holy shit" mode.

Still iced in where I am. There's about an inch of ice on the ground (and on my truck...) and the snow is now starting to come down.

Stay warm. It's 10 degrees here and there are reports of "rolling blackouts". They should just call it what it is. Load shedding.

So far we haven't got hit with the white stuff so bad as others but it's enough to have everyone in a panic here.
They haven't closed schools for a winter storm in years but they did today.
News channels and the paper claim this is a blizzard, for Chicago and other places yes
but most certainly that's not what should be said for where I am.
We've only got 5-6 inches of snow, my city is showing it's sissiness I'm shamed to say.

No snow here. We're probably due for some other calamity though (fire/flood/earthquake).

If tomorrow that four legged little fur ball doesn't come out of his hole to say Spring will be here soonly, I'm going to Pennsylvania so I can slice and serve him to Jack Frost.

I second that motion!

And we're getting 2 feet in 24 hours, so put that in your pipe and smoke it, John-Boy!

Hoping to have my first "snow day" in about 12 years tomorrow. Junk food, Wii, and not having a heart attack shoveling are in my plans. Y'all be safe!

You young ones don't remember the blizzard of '79 8)

Oh, yes, I lived there in the '79 Chicago blizzard...and, to think we were out driving in it - or trying to! I still miss snow, but I do feel for you guys right now...2 feet?! Holy moly. Have lots of hot cocoa.

It's not the two feet that's a problem... its the wind. This shit drifted bad! The sidestreets are literally impassable. And if a plow does show up, we are double screwed. Never seen anything like this. Just spent an hour plus out there and a barely managed to dig a small moat around three quarters of the car. If a kindly neighbor hadn't run down the sidewalk with a blower to make a path, i would still be hours away from being near the car. This is an nightmare.

Don't have much choice, can't go anywhere.

Lake Shore Drive still shut down and over 300 cars still left stuck. Most have been towed.... somehow!

Exactly  I mean, if someone like you who grew up in that stuff in Erie gets cold at 60 now like the rest of us wimps who never experienced that freezing weather, then it can happen to anyone! I'm guessing those people I saw on the news who didn't think this snow storm was going to be any big deal, because they're "used to it", are swallowing their words now?

Holy Crapin' Carpiles that's bad BJG!

Rhi don't bother digging your vehicle out sweets, get inside and grab some sauce.

Angel I've been shaking my head in disbelief all day here.
We are at 22F and the city has called cancellations everywhere.
