Give the reader some fucking credit. By only mentioning the the slight variation in their first names, it's pretty easy to infer that they share the same last name. What did you think her last name was ... Schwarzenegger?

I wasn't discrediting the reader. I read the same thing you did... but I took it as this girl is derp enough to merely glance at it and confuse the similar first names and that's what it was based on, and it doesn't necessarily indicate they have the exact same surname, only that the label was similar enough. If she didn't bother to check the drug I'm not going to assume she read the whole thing correctly.

But a lot of drugs have similar names and it can be confusing to people. Especially because your doctor may tell you the name of the drug they are giving you but they may use the brand or generic name and you may be given the other-some drugs have many different names for the same thing. So for example if this patient was given a prescription for metronidazole and was given methotrexate, the names are similar enough that I can see how she would think she was given the correct drug and the pharmacy just spelled her name wrong. I think the pharmacy is entirely to blame. Having said that, YES, check labels, if the drug name is similar but not the same as what you were told you are getting, ask to make sure you have the right drug!!!!!! Especially at that place that rhymes with balljeans!!! Like Melissa, I've had more problems with them than all other pharmacies combined!

Oh I agree totally, you have to be careful about knowing what you're being given and being responsible for making sure its right and if you aren't sure, you damn well ask. Hell, I even look up the brand and generic names myself before I take it in ... and if its called in, I still ask questions. Then I look it up before I take any.

My point was about the news giving out the name of the other patient. Whether the woman said the full name or not, fox should have edited that out.

Good to know they are morons all over the country  . They can't even do basic math. They'll get an RX with directions they SHOULD know backwards and forwards just as WE do, like "1 PO BID x 10, #20" and they'll actually call to "clarify" the quantity... really?

No one in my family takes anything on a regular basis, but whenever one of us does need something, like my son's asthma meds, I stay as far away from balljeans as possible

Well, I actually had a case just yesterday that rivals balljeans. It was actually a small hospital in a neighboring state. I called an Rx in to the hospital pharmacy for one of the nurses that works there (she's from the town I live in but works there.) I ordered a Z-pack, the pharmacist told my nurse "we don't have Z-packs here" I got on the phone and said "you are a hospital and you don't have a Z-pack?" He tells me no. I was kind of being a smart ass (I know, hard to believe) so I said "well do you have azithromycin?" He tells me they do! ( ) So I said well, how about we just give her 250 mg #2 PO today then #1 QD x 4 days. He says "Oh, OK, I can do that, I just can't do a zpack." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??????????????? I HOPE she got the correct drug.

Amazing  And what's funny about that one is azithromycin DOES come in a pack now just like the Z-packs, same 6 pills, same 5 day dosing, lol. They should look into ordering and stocking it

I know-and even if they don't order it that way, what half way decent pharmacist doesn't know they can just give the patient 6 250 mg azithromycin pills??? I told the nurse to never trust the pharmacy with her patient's meds! (Could I be sued for slander????)

I know, and what sucks is they make more than nurses, and I could run circles around them. I should have been a pharmacist :x
