Yeah, eHarmony is a joke with their compatibility crap...can pretty much use any of the sites and get similar results. A site that a friend told me about that's supposed to be on par with Match but free is: http://www.plentyoffish.com/

Good luck - try to view the bad experiences as free entertainment.
