This will be a race of attrition and of course a couple more big crashes with < than 30 laps to go. Looks like your number 24 is done.

Didn't watch, obviously....but heard about the 14 car crash....sounds llike a win by attrition.

You guys are lucky S2M isn't a NASCAR fan. He'd be bitching about how someone cheated or that the judges missed something. I watched the end since the Blackhawks game was between periods. Nobody died or got hurt. Yawn.

Not really, yes there were a lot of cautions and cars out of the race, but Trevor Bayne ran near the front all day. For a 20 year old rookie to finish the race is a good achievement. To win is unbelievable. Luck does play a part, but this kid's the real deal.

Are there any black drivers in NASCAR? I never see any. I'm guessing that stolen cars aren't race eligible?

Yeah, the don't make 'em like that any more. :( O'l Dale was the last of a dying breed. I love NASCAR, but it's gotten way to corporate, & sanitized. I was an Alan Kulwiki fan back in the 80's & 90's. He was from Greenfield WI. I started following him when he raced in the ASA circuit with guys like Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, & Davey Allison. One of the first northern drivers to win a NASCAR championship, Alan was the last owner driver to win. A guy like him could never win a championship today. I was devastated the day he died in that plane crash.

I saw all of them race In WI too. But I was a Dick Trickle fan. Never liked Earnhardt.

The legend of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt SR took a very, very long time to win his first Daytona 500. I remember watching that, '98 I believe? Man, when you saw the Intimidator in your rear-view mirror, black #3 stock-car you knew you were in for a fight and battle. Loved just seeing the Black #3 just maiming people and stalking them down. Very unique style and no-holds barred. Took this Bayne kid all but 2 races of his career, just turned 20 years old a day ago to win his first Daytona 500. Absolutely incredible.

These guys are insane running 3-lanes BTW. Still can't watch NASCAR like I used to. Earnhardt's death will always overshadow the sport. Last fucking lap....

Black NASCAR drivers will always be more rare than black hockey players. Remember where the "sport" (and for the record, I don't consider it one) has its roots!

Is that sort of like them not allowing Filipinos to compete in the Iditarod because you are NOT allowed to eat the dogs until after the race?

People complain, no asian or black drivers (or really any Mexican). But the deal is racing (especially oval track racing) is not part of their culture. The day that some black asian or mexican driver comes along and smacks everybody by being the best of the best, then it will happen. There's been very good Mexican drivers and some were world class (Pedro Rodriguez, RIP) but I'm still waiting for an asian or black dude to come along that can get it done.

Montoya is Colombian and F1 teams still were calling for him to come back in the years after he left. He was great in F1.

I don't think racism has anything to do with it. But a lot of these young drivers in NASCAR today are kids or even grandkids of drivers. They get started in it because it's the family business. Guys like Trevor Bayne started in go carts when they were 5 years old. I just don't think that go cart racing is something kids in the black communtiy are into. Like figure skating or hockey, it also requires money to pay for equipment and time hauling your kid around all over the state to race. I think that NASCAR would welcome black drivers into their sport. They are always looking for ways to expand their fan base.
