Avoiding Craig's List Scammers

Postby Peartree12249 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 1:29 pm

I have the opportunity to purchase some concert tickets for face value from someone on Craig's list. Seems legit. Any advice for avoiding getting ripped off?

I've bought and sold a lot of different tickets on Craig's List without any problem. But it only takes one.
Bonamassa was long ago sold out when I found out about it, so I was looking on there and there wasn't much AT ALL. I found someone selling two, and we could meet in person, so I thought it would be good. WRONG. She pulls out the tickets, and they're for Burt Bacharach! I said, ah, this isn't it. She says, Oh damn! My husband gave me the wrong tickets! I'll be right back! That was the last I saw of her.
THEN, I found another ad on Wednesday, for the Friday concert. I call right away, only to find out she's in ARIZONA! We talk a couple of times, and both take a huge leap of faith, and decide to overnight the tickets and money to each other that day. I had her address where I was sending the money, which was her work, and it checked out online. PLUS she lives right near Phoenix International Raceway, which I told her I would be at next (this) week. So she knew I could hunt her down! lol. So she actually took a bigger chance than I did. Of course, we both had each other's cell #, and she also had my work address where she sent the tickets.
Long story short, everything worked out great, it turns out she's a super nice lady, and when we get over there, wants a report about the concert!
But when these things require taking a chance, I try to decide if I can handle losing the money, or tickets, just in case. After all, after it's all over, it's not the money you've lost, that's gone either way, it's just the memories. You have to decide if it's worth the chance.
