I saw Europe in Bristol the other night. What a fantastic show. Its amazing how Europe can switch gears from that "final countdown/carrie" type material to its new harder rocking stuff off its its last album (last look at Eden). I know theres alot of debate about how Arnel and Journey can incorporate a new harder rocking sound from Eclipse into its set and remain relevant etc- Joey and Europe have already mastered it.

SFTD was not a horrible effort. Now if you said Secret Society, I might understand better, because I didn't attach to as many songs. But even that was a good album. But SFTD is a great album. You need new ears

What correlation are you trying to draw...D2 is recording in the same style they always have(with Poley at the helm, that is)....they had some shaky albums(Dawn)....but overall I don't see a band trying to modernize their sound....

Europe is not THAT far off from their older sound. They are still true to Europe. Tell me this. How can you be a HUGE Heart fan, and follow them ALL these years, when they most OBVIOUSLY changed their sound from the 70's to the 80's? I really don't see a problem with any bands changing things, trying new things, or playing heavier stuff. I love it. If I want to hear the same old stuff, I'll listen to classic rock albums.

I wouldn't call it bragging. That response was a direct reply to a certain topic. I have all 7 Talisman albums now. I listened to them awhile ago. I'm re-visiting them this weekend. A few songs catch my ear, but not many. However, I'm not stuck in the late 70s. My era of choice is '89-'95...for melodic rock. Other styles have different year boundaries. I would hazard a guess that I have the most music of anyone on this board. But that is not bragging, it is a fact. Get back to me when you can espouse on Captive Heart, Burning Rain, Emerald Rain, Von Groove, and Heartland....until then.......

Though not a huge Beatles fan, look how they changed over the years. To me that is the sign of a great band. I love it. Maybe you just don't embrace change well? Get stuck in your ways? And maybe, just maybe, you DO listen to too many different things. And it has affected what you hear! I don't think I could possibly listen to that many artists consistently! And I love music!

I would say i have roughly a good 6,000 cds worth of music.....some of it I have never listened to. I'm sifting through it little by little. What catches my ears goes on my iPod, what doesn't, doesn't....and it is very little that gets on. I probably have only 10,000 songs on it. and this is stuff ranging from Air Supply to Kiss to Thompson Twins to George Carlin(not music, but it's in there) to Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana'...I like everything....even have all the Rascal Flatts....but whatever particular group I have , I make it a rule to have everything by that band....that's why it is a big collection. I may not like Seceret Society, but I own it.

They don't regret it, it made them popular worldwide, but they'd rather play and write harder stuff anyday, especially with Norum as the guitarist.

Mine too for m.r., but you have to understand there aren't many people (especially not in this thread, lol) who are going to know why or understand why. I followed that era very closely back then, when only things like Metal Edge magazine and a very few others like that were the only sources for news on those bands too. Then towards the later end of mid-90's even those mags pretty much gave up covering news on those bands, it was tough to find any way to follow them anymore back then. The internet was around, yeah, but nowhere near the source for bands and their news that it is now. But at that time from '89-'95 (even '87 & '88 too) I know what you mean and yes there were some great bands and great music, but towards the end of that time frame just so underground only people who followed it knew. And there's just no way you're going to get people only familiar with what was on the radio back then to recognize that there were some great bands, great musicians, and great music they missed out on. So might as well give up Just be thankful you know about it. I am, and love listening to all my music from back then, and hearing new stuff these bands still put out.

Wrong. People in this thread are those who also followed the MR scene during 87-97 , myself included.
I lived in Sweden where Melodic Rock was and is still big

Yeah and they DO sound different with Norum than they did with Marcello, and while I liked their work with Marcello too, I love how they sound with that harder edge with Norum.
