ECLIPSE lyrics observation...

Postby Rip Rokken » Sat Feb 26, 2011 8:44 pm

I remember during the concert catching previous song titles in their lyrics, and kinda dismissed it until yesterday when someone posted some lyrics from "City of Hope" and and noticed "don't stop believing" in them. "Resonate" has "message of love", and I'd caught others but can't remember them. Coincidence or design? What think ye?

I thought I heard "Never Stop Believin" in City of Hope...given DSB's resurgence on the charts, it's prolly by design. As for "message of love", prolly less so. The band is always plagarizing itself. If you get out Arrival, you'll find the term "State of Grace" a few times.

I kinda cringed when heard the words "Message of love" in that one song.

This plagarising song titles, I dont know its probably a chain reaction, You should never start plagarising yourself because once you cross the rubicon and do it and then you will have opened the door and will do it anytime that you are feeling that way. The problem with plagarising is it just shows that you have something to hide and you can do nothing original and then its too late. Soon its lights out.

I think its really a shame because Journey used to be happy to give it a try and write about new people and places -but then back in those days everyone was raised on radio and the fans would put you in the line of fire if you didnt failthfully produce new orignal lyrics and didn't constantly keep on running with new ideas. They wouldnt just wait patiently and say "ok Journey put out any old new lyrics anyway you want it and I'll listen with open arms"

Onlly when they go all the way with some fresh unborrowed lyrics from song titles I can say that I got a reason to believe they are showing signs of life. But to be fair to them they never were Bob Dylan in writing lyrics. Great lyricsts like Dylan approach lyric writiing with separate Ways and are worlds apart from people like J Cain. Lady luck just hits them and they crank out great lyrics that every generation things are sweet and simple.

Has Journey ever been about the lyrics? The riffs and catchy hooks are what have always been their claim to fame. A lot of what they do seems to be just writing great music first and then just filling in the blanks lyrically. If the song is hummable, that's all you need, right?

It's like lstening to Beyond The Thunder or Electric World, we don't need no stinkin' lyrics.

Crazy Deb memorably told Jon at a meet n greet that Turn Down the World Tonight would have been better without lyrics. I think he might still be mad at her ...

Well, Faithfully's lyrics grab me every time, but I guess it's the haunting melody that pulls me in at first.

Eh, it's not like they're saying "Any Way You Want It" or anything. Outside of die-hards, MOL is barely known. If the words fit, use it.

Are they using Steve Perry as a ghost writer? This is some hokey shit.

Chain of Love

One precious moment in the state of grace
Send the magic to an endless night
Feel the goal, feel the peace of mind
True perfection in one true the light

That place in my mind can lead to nowhere
Promises of happiness can leave me wanting more
When my desire becomes a nightmare

There’s no beginning. There’s no end.

An endless circle beyond space and time
It’s the chain of love that binds me
Chain of love that binds me
Chain chain chain chain of love.

Forces in my head will try to rule me
I found a place where I can’t be there anymore

Lost in emotion that I’ve never touched before

If I could get beyond what’s in my mind
Free my spirit, leave the world behind

They had already made a "Wheel In The Sky" reference in "Live And Breathe ."

Survivor made a "Caught In The Game" reference in their song "Someone Else's Sleepless Night."

I don't mind if bands do that on rare occasions. The good thing for me is that "Caught In The Game" and "Wheel In The Sky" both rank high on my list of favorite songs.

I can speak from experience on this subject. I catch myself doing it all the time! The newest song I wrote "Don't Give Up"- (please hear it at www.myspace.com/jimrykbost ) had to be tweaked because I used not only "I Believe" in the original version, but also "Sooner Or Later"/

I don't know how to explain it other than the fact that those are the messages I'm trying to convey in a lot of my songs, and I do it without even being aware of it. They could be doing it consciously, but I doubt it. It's just a habit.

They used meet somewhere halfway on Never Walk Away and Like a Sunshower. They rip themselves off. I think they used something similar to meet somewhere halfway in some earlier songs as well.

Tears for Fears, Roland has done that in quite a few songs. He, obviously, does it on purpose, though. He likes to use secret world in songs and eventually wrote a song called Secret World. There's a few other key phrases he throws into a song that are recognizable from a hit.

They should have named it "Ring of Love". It would have been like Tolkein wrote it. Maybe it could have been in "The Hobbit".

Anyone remember The Chain Of Love ...Clay Walker crossover country hit?! Whether
you're a country fan or not, it was everywhere ...
It was about loving thy neighbor, paying it forward ...like a chain ...of love

These^^^^ lyrics are a bit confusing ...this chain of love is about leaving the world behind ...being alone?!?!
Where's the chain of love?!? Perhaps I need to actually hear the song?!?! :?
