Something awesome for fans of Chicago!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:18 am

Hey everyone,

I just heard of a new artist today who released an album in 1990, and if you are a fan of 80's/90's Chicago... you will LOVE this guy!!! His name is Michael Gleason, and from what I can gather, he's now a Christian artist. I can't believe I've never heard of him, and this is the closest I've ever heard an artist come to sounding like them. This song would have fit right in on the Chicago 21 album, and I actually think it's better than any of the songs on it. Hope you like it...

Not bad....takes too long to get to the meat of the song, however, and in the end is TOO lite for my tastes. Also, the 2 Diane Warren songs on Twenty 1 are awesome...

BTW, just as an aside....THIS is the best NON-Chicago - sounding Chicago song out there....

Michael Gleason toured as a sideman with Kansas around 1983. He had auditioned to replace Steve Walsh. The band decided to go with John Elefante, but Gleason wound up being asked to be a touring musician with the band, I think on the "Drastic Measures" tour. He was in AD, the Christian rock band that Kerry Livgren formed after Kansas split up. I think he split vocal duties in AD with Warren Ham, who had also auditioned to replace Steve Walsh and had been a touring musician with Kansas.

Children of choices is a top CD, this track is a bit lame for me though, well worth tracking down a copy but it may be hard to find.

I agree! I've checked on Itunes, and Amazon. I can get a used copy from Amazon (minus the shipping) for $13.00, but that's a little high for me. I'm checking other places now. So what do you think of the whole album? And thanks for your input BTW!

Think Mr.Mister's Welcome to the real world, Toto's Joseph Williams era, and of course Chicago, Terry Brock and John Elefante provide backing vocals. Tasty guitars and keys, great arrangements and production...... a clear winner.

Jim, try checking out Jay Gruska and Michael Omartian.

Also, a guy called Matthew Ward, who sounds exactly like Steve Walsh, did a couple of albums in a similar style. His album called Fortress has Dean Castronovo on drums and his Armed & Ready album has Dan Huff of guitar and Mike Baird on drums. Below is a live clip.
