Didn't work. I jacked the ever living fuck out of my upper neck and back. I finally went to the doctor today and she gave me 3 prescriptions ... Mortin 600, Vicodin and Flexeril. The Flexeril is a type of valium (I think that's what she said), and the other 2 are for pain. My question is this; why did she give me 2 things for the pain, and is it ok to take them together? The reason I'm asking is because they're all 3 times a day, with the Flexeril being a double dose before bed ... since I haven't had a good night's sleep in a fucking week. :x :(

So, how did they work for ya? Do you feel better?

I do. What's weird is this; I took 2 Flexerils last night along with a vicodin and Motrin around 8:30 and never got tired, finally falling asleep around midnight. Today, I took one of each in the morning and then 1 of each in the afternnon. However, after I took the afteronon dosage I could hardly stay awake. But it didn't have that effect the night before with twice the dosage. Weird. :?

Hang in there.
I'm not medically trained so it's only my opinion, but I believe in the power of the mind.
To me pain medication only take the edge off pain. Your mind does the rest.
The drug stops the pain messages going to the brain which in turn make you think they have stopped the pain. And the drugs damage your stomach lining in the long term. Also they DO constipate the hell out of you - which is no good. You want the crap to come out of your system not get stuck in there.

You need to find a good practitioner who can fix the problem.
But you know that anyway.

I really hope you can get it fixed asap.

In the meantime no leaping off high places onto the bed, ok? Again.................. joking.

You must feel sick with pain.

Love and hugs

Dan, hope it's nothing more than a Trapezius strain, but even the pain from a serious strain can go on for a few months. Have you tried ice or heat therapies? Ice is usually used right after an injury to help restrict blood leakage and swelling, whereas heat helps relax muscles or problem spots before exercise. I use heat quite a bit, and ice occasionally. Never use heat right after an injury, because it will make inflammation worse. I found a few sites which mention when to use which:

Best of luck man -- hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks, Rip (and Susie). I actually decided to go to Walgreens and talk to the pharmacist about it. He recommended Tiger Balm but said it burns like a motherfucker. I told him I'm gonna try and give this thing another week. I hate pills and I hate doctors so this is probably the best thing for me mentally. I also went and worked out today. After not doing so for a week, I was beginning to feel some muscle atrophy and couldn't handle that. It was a light workout and I made sure not to use the affected area. Tomorrow will be a tell-tale sign of how good of an idea that really was! Thanks for the links, man. 8)

No problem, and one other thing from my own recent personal experience with lower back pain -- too much rest or lying around doesn't help. After any first day of that, I've found pain goes away quicker I stay active (and be careful), just like you're doing. If you can do heat, a long hot bath also really helps me. You can get all sorts of therapeutic tub soak stuff too.

Hope you are on the mend soon Dan. I have a thermal wrap thingy on my left arm and knee. I have done tissue damage to both. *note to self, stop being such a klutz!*

I am sure you miss being active and doing your regular routine. Hang in there, you'll feel up to being your old self in no time! I am trying to see that as a good thing.

Hugs big Dan. Oh, and my Dan says get well too!

Get better dude, I know what it's like to have such related injuries when it comes to weight. Neck and back injuries can be brutal and agonizing. Hope you get it checked out and when you're cleared to go back into it, don't worry about the amount of weight you're lifting, that's over-rated. Form is much, much more important than the amount of weight. Good luck.

Come down to the Arkansas Ozarks, aka, 'God's Country'.
Get on the boat for a few days now that it's getting warmer.
Fish if you want, or just soak up the sun & suds.
Relax. No worries, no pain.

later~

Tiger balm does penetrate deep into the muscles but it stinks and it can ruin your bed linen and clothing etc.
It works though.

I think with any muscle strain the only answer is deep massage and stretching exercises.

Is there a good Osteopath/Physiotherapist in your town?
Someone who deals in Sports injuries etc?

I'm gonna google to see what stretches can help that area.

Hope you are feeling better today.

Stretching suggestions.................

EDIT - I've been wracking my brains since yesterday to try and remember an alternative therapy which helps to correct bad habits/posture etc which may cause back pain.
Can't google it until I can remember what it's called - and I have now remembered!

The Alexander Technique!

I was just thinking that probably because you are so tall, you may have developed over time a way of sitting hunched up which has caused the pain. So this alternative technique will correct all that and thus prevent it happening again.

Just a thought.
