Case in point right there....^^^^^^^

BTW, Paul was better in Racer X. Another musician constrained by his current band.

For technical/talent he should easily be on the list, great player no matter what band he's in. Not my absolute favorite, as I prefer more feeling players like Schon, Beck, Kotzen. But he's definitely up there.

Um no, Eddie Van Halen can outplay them all with his little pinky finger (nothing against them though)

I love VH as much as anybody (or maybe not), but no, he can't. The thing with Ed is he's locked into his own game and I've never heard him play anything outside the box as far as VH is concerned. A lick from "One I Want" on VHIII could've been a lick from "A.F.U." on OU812 and nobody would notice. Not that that's a bad thing.

Paul chooses to be there, does he not? He did leave the band before.

Yep....just like Vivian chooses to be in Def Lep - and play 2nd fiddle to Phil Collen - then bitch and moan because Phil gets all the 'cool solos'

No complaints in MB, both Gilbert and Sheehan have solos, not to mention dualing solos. Double necks dual....... LOVE this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NITX8WdO ... re=related

Billy Sheehan is pretty f'in amazing. I saw Mr. Big open for Rush on the Presto tour at the Forum (8th row or something like that). Good times.

That said, I like him for what he does with Niacin, not Mr. Big.

It's still a very studio practiced performance. He's not the guitarist that he appears to be. He's great at what he plays, but if you ask him to play a Journey tune he would be lost. Ask Neal to play a Boston tune, and you'll see what I'm getting at.

He also holds an engineering degree from MIT. And has invented more musical items than Neal has wives....

Which makes him what? A great engineer. Guitarist? That's speculative, but he's not, in my estimation in the league of the players on that list.

Genius maybe...but complete fruitcake who is incapable of recording 10 songs per decade. What a frightful waste of talent. One album every 8-10 years. WTF!

Exactly. The dude's an engineer many more times than he is a "musician." He's more about recording sounds than playing instruments.
