Cry of Love

Awesome band that kinda fizzled out after debut album. Sure they released a 2nd(Diamonds & Debris), but at that point Kelly Holland was gone, and Robert Mason took over on vox - and changed the sound up a bit, for the worst....Audley Freed is a great guitarist.

Definitely agree, never heard of them. But yeah, I like the clips, they have a Black Crowes meets Tesla kinda vibe. Love that type of bluesy rock. Thanks.

I only have their first album and it has a few good songs on it. Audley is a very good guitarist. I wish Robinson brothers would've used him better when he was with The Black Crowes. Sadly his two albums were among their worst albums.

Disagree on half of this. Absolutely love the "By Your Side" record. Probably the crowes most underated album. I don't think there is a song I don't like on the record. Of course, everyone has their own taste, but that was pure Black Crowes music to me. On the second, "Lions", I tend to agree. Aside from about three decent tunes, the "Lions" cd was a bit of a dissapointment to me. Also, Freed, I believe was part of the Jimmy Page/Crowes live release and shows. Some great stuff there. Best Zeppelin covers I have heard to date.

Also, really like that first Cry of Love album. Real good stuff there.

**** After a little further research - Audley actually had no part in the recording sessions of "By Your Side". He joined the band just prior to the tour for that release. *****

I caught a Damon Johnson solo acoustic show a few weeks ago, he did a few Brother Cane tunes. He has a really good solo (mostly acoustic) cd out. Good show if he's in your area, talked to him after the show, cool guy.

Forgot how much I liked this CD.

Kind of a Grand Funk vibe going on in this one

Don't get me wrong By Your Side had some good tracks, but IMO it's the bands 3rd weakest release (ahead of only Before the Frost...Into the Freeze, and Lions). What confused me about By Your Side is that some of the B sides from the singles were actually better than the album itself. Had the brothers Robinson actually took the best of what they had off the album that was shelved (Band) and went with some of the tracks they wrote for BYS you'd have one helleva album. Instead you get an album with one good first half and a very spotty 2nd half. Lions sounds like shit, but the songs from Lions when performed live are much better.

Cry Of Love was a kick ass band...really strong rock and roll. I liked the first Brother Cane album quite a bit. The ones after it were not bad, but they added that 90s, dark edge afterwards that wasn't at strong, IMO.

"Bad Thing" reminds me of "You're Some Kind Of Wonderful", and the bands overall sound reminds me of 38 Special. Not a big fan, but thanks for sharing it.
