New Mike And The Mechanics album!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Mar 29, 2011 12:38 am

Hey, just stumbled on this and thought any fans here might want to check it out! :D There's a new line-up, and it looks like Paul Carrack is out. The new guy sounds so much like Paul Young, that it's really eerie. Check out these clips. The album comes out on 8 April.

There's actually two new singers. Tim Hower and Andrew Roachford. I think the voice you are hearing is Andrew Roachford.

I saw something about that this morning, but didn't have time to read it all before I posted. Click on the link I posted, and listen to "Oh No". It's uncanny how similar he sounds! I think it's so cool that Mike found someone so similar. I know he debated about even carrying on with the band after Paul died, but I'm glad he's moving forward. I'm sure it's what Paul would have wanted too.

I hate to see Carrack departed, but honestly, after hearing this line-up, I don't mind. I know Carrack started struggling with some of the older tunes, and he just didn't sound as good at "Silent Running" and some of the stronger songs as Young. I'm sure this line-up will knock it out of the park! :D

Paul Carrack is busy touring with his own Band.
He also has an album out where he is backed by an Orchestra and he will be doing some shows with them.

He couldn't commit to Mike & The Mechanics because of his solo schedule.

Didn't know that. Is he touring anywhere here in the states? I'd love to see him live!

Yep! I actually bought it last night! I really like it so far, although some of the songs have had to grow on me. There are a couple that I skip, but overall, I'm really liking this.

you know... after listening to it, there's only three songs that the other singer sings on...

1. Background Noise

2. It Only Hurts For A While

and 3. Hunt You Down. Whoever is singing the PY type vocals, is amazing! He sounds at times like a mix between PY, Paul Carrack, and Michael Hutchins. VERY good singer to have on board!!! :D I'm excited by the possibilities with this line-up. :D

I'm looking forward to this album. I really enjoyed their last effort "Rewired" quite a bit. I wish Paul Carrack was part of the new album, but it still should be interesting.

The shows with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are only in London so far. But they are being filmed for a DVD release afterwards. I assume that will be available in the States. Not sure when it's due to go on sale though, sorry.

[My Duo share the same Management as Paul.]

And as far as I know the Paul Carrack Band are only touring in Europe this year - Germany, Holland, UK.

They do sometimes support The Eagles though, so keep an eye out for Eagles gigs in the USA. They did some last year. Not sure about this year.

Paul Carrack does have a new album out too.

'A Different Hat.'

I'm not on commission from sales by the way.

I'll definitely check it out! I have 2 or 3 solo albums from Paul, and although I haven't listened to them since I bought them, I did like them. They were pretty good, just not great. I'll let you know what I think of it. Thanks for the heads-up!

Finally got around to picking this up

I'm only a few listens in but there are two tracks that are pure class and immediately stood out:

2. Reach out and Touch the Sun

10. Oh No...

I must have listened to these two songs back to back on repeat for a few hours....soooooo good...Like Coldplay ,but with class and originality.
