I really don't think Journey was that strong of an album band to be honest. I love them for sure and they are among my top 5 favorites, but their albums were never great through and through for me... not even the much-lauded Escape. They always had a few clunkers on each album.
The sum of their work, however, is what makes me such a big fan. Their great songs are unbelievably great.

I prefer the era with John Schlitt better but I love the stuff before that as well. Actually, "Beat the System" is probably the worst album in their catalog, in my opinion, but there's still some pretty good stuff even on that one.

With that attitude, you're missing out on some good music, especially from bands like Petra, Guardian, White Heart, Whitecross, etc.

Wha? I have serious love for quite a few songs on that album and Neal is at his tasteful, melodic/shred best. Lovin You is Easy, Just the Same Way are classic Journey. I could listen to the solo in Sweet & Simple all day long (Dan, you don't need to chime in here).
