I think the rule was that once you reached the age of 25 - they no longer went after the parents. It was all on the student, and he/she was eligible for everything....

They did for me, I started my BA right after high school. As for now, I'm not eligible for any state or federal grants because I already have a Bachelors degree (I'm currently pursuing an Associates).

Well that sucks, sorry to hear, and what sucks even more (and this will seem not so nice to some, and it's ONLY because the truth hurts!) is if you were a female, still single, the right ethnicity, and popped out a baby (or seven) out of wedlock, you'd be eligible for practically every handout under the sun.

And be unemployed too. Most of the people who attend the business college I currently attend are going for free. New York State unemployment is paying for every dime of these people's tuition.

Isn't it about time congress does away with income tax? Again, a consumption tax makes more sense.....

If the government wants a quick and easy way to raise revenue why not add a penny tax. Round up every single purchase in this country by 1 cent. It small enough that nobody would really notice yet raise revenue enough to help with the deficit.

Amen!!! Perfect example is one of my student loans I took out this year: $8,500 principle @ 12% for 15 years; The final payoff balance.......$36,000!!!!

Here's a neat easy trick...instead of paying $102 a month for 15 years, pay $200 a month instead. Be done in 4 years at a cost of only $9800.

That's a lot easier said than done. When I was at the factory the only time I could pay extra was when we were working 10-20 hours a week of overtime. On a regular 40 hour week I could barely afford the minimum payment.

I've gotta ask, do you pay your parents rent or do you live pretty much free of major household type bills by living with them?

No rent but I do pay all of my own expenses. Car insurance, cell phone, gas, etc..... All after all that there is very little left over. Gas is killing me, I have a 75 mile round trip commute to class Monday-Thursday. I average $40-50 a week just in gas.
